  1. Speechless - made up for both of you Would it be self-serving to suggest this calls for a drink?
  2. Tillie As you KNOW, I was more worried about the poor scanning and meter - I can handle the allegations;-) Another top limerick this evening by the way - words are your forte
  3. and now I know who BarryRoad is...
  4. * "last night" went on just past closing time * * so why do I feel so bad today? * * ah yes, closing time isn't 11pm anymore * * ouch *
  5. Not a tiny amount of money he's getting for them tho - 2.2 million
  6. Keef swill???? well, he likes a drink but swilling is a bit harsh ;-)
  7. * reached out to DM and attempted persuasion * -denied- * motives understood - hope the weekend works out better *
  8. Seema - promised but never showed - and no post to explain? Rejoin Shambles??? Wha'ppen TillieTrotter & Steph - Made it - and how. Top top people, hope to see em again PaulAgain - Another first and nice bloke LadyGooner - A Lady. And a Gooner. nuff said Mogs - new to most of you but I know who she is ;-) That's not all the newbies so apologies to those I missed Point is - another good evening. Thanks to Mike for arranging and great to see the regs. Oh and the pub kept the beers coming sharpish with smiles all evening so fair play And I'm sure Andrew will have the visual record of events posted soon
  9. Now come on GreenandBluegang.. you won't get a better recommendation than that And I agree with every word
  10. On Topic: I'm not a lover of the whole Oyster "thing" anyway. It removes another level of humanity from everyday discourse not to mention confusion for many (I would LOVE to be a non-English speaking tourist who just wants to get on a bus and needs to have the whole concept explained to them should they not wish to take out a second mortgage when they get home). And don't get me started on the privacy aspect As for other fines Professordingo - I read and hear this a lot from people but I honestly don't see how (with the possible exception of the Oyester fiasco) anyone gets fined for going about daily business? I never get any....
  11. Don't be silly DM - more reminiscing please! Am I right in thinking the Comedy Store was in a different venue back then My night of comedy planned for Sun evening is off as Steve Hughes has pulled out - harrumph. Gives me a good excuse to go see Keef play after the fair tho
  12. Tillie In a few more years they may even be shirking work, talking to strangers on the internet and then getting muellered in the pub with them later .... oh wait Back on topic: It's something parents and adults find all too easy to forget - that joy of doing stuff on your own. I used to love being asked to go to the shops to do "the messages" (one for DulwichMum that) all on my own and when I was walking back I had my head buried deep in a newspaper. I felt so grown up. And I was only 6 (true - a nerd even then)
  13. And to think when I were a wee lad on those rare days I wasn't forced to walk the mile and a half to school (hail, rain or shine) , the 3 of used to squeeze into a little tiny Renault with nary a word about "visibility", "feel safer" or "needing the space" Just imagine if everyone walked to school how many more people would be on the streets, thus making it both safer and more community-feeling. People less likely to get up to no good if there are more people on the streets instead of zooming around everywhere (feels the soapbox totter after getting it out so early in the day)
  14. Hi Giddy - you excited at the prospect of the move? Best move I ever made Anyway, whatever your interest you won't be short of local knowledge on here so ask away
  15. who was always up for a rant [and by the way people, I leave this thread for a couple of days and find THAT limerick about me - people better apologise and/or buy me lot's beer tonight z'all I can say]
  16. Have to agree about the stations getting with the programme but aren't there about 3 newsagents within 20 yards of the station of which at least 2 top up oysters?
  17. Reg D Hunter is the comic you are referring to Fonson - top bloke Stewart Lee is also a recurring favourite of mine - did an all too short set at the Hob a few weeks back but he was one of my highlights of last Glastonbury I saw Bill Hicks twice - once in a small room and once on his last UK tour in a big student theatre size place - place was half empty (but that was Exeter for you)
  18. My walk along Etherow St on those mornings I'm around (up behind the plough) suggests it's every bit as bad down here The school just before the corner of Barry Rd has cars from as far away as ... ohhh the top of Friern Rd
  19. How could I forget the Bedford - great place And Georgia, yes I remember that Hamlet now. I saw it advertised a few times but never made it unfortunately
  20. Mogs just because the weather has turned and you can't work from home in your hammock, in the garden on the upper east side doesn't mean you can go down the pub you know I nearly was at home today but a specific report requires the facilities at work so a) I had to come in b) cut my evening in Hoopers short (despite the best/worst efforts of MP - who probably isn't used to people actually MEANING "no I have to go now" ) bah
  21. I couldn't get in to the Edfest that day - it was sold out and rammed Georgia - by the Hamlet you mean the Vale right? Can't remember comedy ever happening there. I have been to the Tattershall on Monday nights - definitely a different feeling there being on the water
  22. With Gut Rocking comedy coming to the EDT and EDComedy going great guns at the hob I thought I'd check the pulse of the comedy goers out there. Are there many of us? Best gig? Favourite club? Most memorable for me was the first time I saw Bill Hicks. The first time I saw Russell Brand do his Edinburgh warmup at the Hob was special as well as it transfomed my opinion of the guy 180 degrees from out and out.... to very intelligent and funny guy. Adam Hills at the Magdala was great as well - it just kept on going Favourite club for me was possibly The Meccanno in a basement on Essex Rd N1 - now some bar or other
  23. I couldn't have done this by myself I'd like to thank Mogs for raising the idea, the Administrator for noticing, everyone else for trying to be 10000th and thus raising the bar that little bit extra.. [several hours later....mascara now running down the face] ...my mum and dad for... [music fades up and a crook enters stage left at neck height] Seriously tho - thanks, and I'll see several of youse tonight then..
