  1. The "graffiti" is cheeky but it has made most of us smile (albeit in a grudging way mostly) Whilst on the subject of White Stuffs work, I noticed last night some of the old shops (ie pre Walsh) facades were exposed and looked lovely. You know the kind of thing.. those b&w tinted photos of Victorian LL with "Stationers" in fancy lettering above shops.
  2. Yay Serenity Glad you came back and clarified that for us - and just because you have a job in the city doesn't make you boring; as you point out it just makes you like us.. oh, wait.. Since you first posted I think you'll see a few of us have pretty much concurred with a lot of what you have said but it's really good to see you bounce back (and you also recanted on the Gowlett for bonus points) Ill probably see you down the FHT soon ish then
  3. Not to mention my bad typing - how did I spell your name again?? Sheeesh..
  4. My only must-sees right now on any of the main stages are Rufus & Arcade Fire Rest of the time I'll be skulking elsewhere
  5. Make sure to buy Keef a drink while you are there
  6. The point I WANTED to make, but much better-put Bellendell-Belle Why do I sometimes use 10 words when 1 will do?
  7. * Notes DM's liking for Assam and nods approvingly * * remembers a line from a song: "This week has passed me so slowly, The days fell on their knees..." * hopes everyone is well and apologises for absence from TQR"
  8. I'm taking away food tonight, The curry here's such a delight I'm partial to Jalfreizi
  9. Ultimately all clothes are identikit garb, wherever one buys them from.. The best way forward is to mix and match, using one's own style and judgement. Do we need a clothes shop locally? Do we need anything locally if everything is a short bus-hop away? I made the point earlier to compare with previous discussion re coffee chains (we already have plenty of good coffee, what does a chain bring?) and re: therapy chains (we already have... etc) There are already many places I don't go in ED so if a place opens I don't like the look of then that;s ok. My (own, personal, others disagree) wish is that ED doesn't become Swindon/Basingstoke/Croydon (I've lived there I can say that) and I don't think White Stuff is likely to bring us closer to that day
  10. Before we move on from the whole..... calcium-based subject may I just repeat one of the best lines from a song ever "My wife's lactatin' And I'm spectatin' It's a football thing" DM - having seen your back yard in the South London Press pic I am most upset I didn't get an invite for Pimms on this most glorious of weekends (just passed)
  11. Ah poor badger... it took us 3 lost Sundays and got the scraggiest coach ticket in the end... (I used to think it was all about the broadband connection but am now convinced it's how many people try en-masse. Once one person is in they book for all their mates)

Well it;s not ED Andyng but you are spot on - the on next to the Hob??? Fantastic place.. always like to pop in there before the comedy next door
  13. To contradict you a wee bit Simon, Lordship Lane is oft compared on here to Eccie Rd Sheffield (long a home to a White Stuff) so not sure I agree it's totally unsuited (and with only ED offering a very very small range of clothes it;s not as if any local retailer is going to feel the pinch?)
  14. Thanks Tillie - I did a double-take earlier but didn't want to say in case it was my imagination..
  15. Oooh I've had that one (think it was 2005) - right up my street. Not too bland but not a belter (strength-wise) either (Kate would be so proud of my tasting notes!) Wish I had a bottle now...
  16. But still... I owe you a pint My most extreme fest exxperience was 96 - Phoenix Festival. Initially planned to go the whole weekend but I ended up having an interview on the Friday. Undeterred myself and Lady Macgabhann caught the train to Stratford early in the morning.. Many delays later and arriving in a sweltering Stratfrd centre we were greeted with gridlock so we had a bite to eat and assumed thing would work out... they didn't. No car or bus moved so much as an ince but we saw people heading towards the site on foot so thought what the hey.. Didn't realise it was 8 miles did we??? In 30 degrees + temperature. Carrying big huge blanket (no tent - we thought we would just "be" for the evening) We made just in time for last 2 acts - Prodigy and Bowie and then meandered for a bit. Fry up at 5am and then a journey back to Exeter for my interview... As IF I would do that again. But both acts were absolutely blinding and it was well worth it
  17. Read a bit more about this in TimeOut on the way home. They put a very positive spin on the whole thing, with the only shot in the programme having already been printed on the front page of a newspaper (which I don't recall causing the same outrage) The thrust of the programme being that the photographers became the scapegoat at the time, supposedly interfering with the medics trying to attend - something I remember clearly at the time. So if this isn't true (and medics at the scene are interviewed saying that the photographers did NOT impede) then we have an interesting public-interest story - "Mass hysteria at time of death forces a scapegoat mentality which affects many living people's lives for a decade") The photos at the centre of the storm are used to support this argument and do not show any ghoulish images... So I'm at a loss as to what the fuss is about - if I read what I wrote at the beginning of my first post above it's apparent I fell in line with the pervading mood about how wrong CH4 were. And I might now be falling in line with an article I read in a magazine.. But without watching it I'm not sure we can use the word "wrong" in the moral sense??
  18. For the whole weekend?? Indeed you do *Bob* Actually I do bring stuff - I just remembered. Fold up chair with beer holder.. essential

    seacow

One of the good things about Seacow is how they have removed certain fish from their menu because of sea-stocks which should be applauded As I've said I'm not a fish-man but I do remember getting a carton of chips in there and loving them..
  20. White stuff (as far as chain stores go) are ok... I've bought several items from there although I do tend to go for stuff without the logo (as with anywhere) They do tend to locate stores away from the rest of the high-street herd and have retained a less corporate identity and are not on the ethical consumer boycott list http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/boycotts/boycotts_list.htm
  21. Louisiana You have too many "things" to be bothering with at the festival for me.. although anything chili-related (even a windsock) is bound to get my attention
  22. SeanMacGabhann

    seacow

Shame about the Seacow Mac - I'm not a big fish man but it always looked tlike the place that might convert me
  23. Fair dues PollyD - I guess I mean in the wider literary world they wouldn't be rated. I remember the Insomnia one.. which was the HIV one? And have you read his latest?.. but I fear we are now off-topic and should carry this on in the book thread To stay on topic - where were you instead of the EDF drinks!!
  24. thanks for reminder MikeyP Where is that laminated book of dreams gone....
  25. Have to agree about the Latitude line-up Would recommend the End of The Road festival in Sep as well But having done all of the big festivals nothing but nothing compares to Glastonbury. "It's not about the bands" is a cliche but really is true.. *Bob* loses points however for calling it a weekend tho.. As IF. It's a whole week or nothin Newsflash. Tickets arrived today - bonus points!
