  1. Hi, I read today that the Council are to remove the fence that crosses Goose Green and carry out a study to see if it improves the park (returning it to as it was before). They will also conduct a doggy doo doo's study. Is it me or are they issuing more parking fine's to carry out these needless studies. The fence although it is of good quality will be removed, stored at ?1k a month and then sold too Mr. Trotter. We have to be truly grateful that we Have a Council does not waste time and money. Regards, Libra Carr.
  2. Hi, Southwark Council have recently invited traders to apply for market pitches via the local media. My question is that is it a good idea to encourage a larger market at the expence of local shops and residents not being able to park. Or is this just the start of pedestrianisation The Lordship Lane/Northcross Road junction is a nightmare to pedestrians and motorists alike, are they looking to profit against safety? Regards, Libra Carr.
  3. Hi, There is a website which will advise and help you in avoiding parking tickets. The best way to find it is Google it. I was fined for picking up my wife outside a shop that she had come out of. The camera spotted me and a ticket was issued. Sixty pounds is what they demand, if you want to appeal it then goes into the ?120 brcket (good eh), I paid the ?60 and appealed, this was dismissed. Having taken advice from the website advised them that they had acted illegally as I had not parked my car as I had not exited it. They chose to ignore my recorded delivered letter. I took it to the small claims court and recovered my money plus costs plus interest! I love it when a plan comes together. Regards, Libra Carr.
  4. Hi, I go to the head office of Somerfield quite a lot, I get the feeling that they would not dispose of the Lordship Lane store, as the store is a good earner. Evidently, it takes more money at the peak time 5.30 - 7.30pm than other branches do during the day. The ones they may dispose of are the larger ones on housing estates as they are troublesome. And finally.... Just to clear up a little confusion. The Coop is not franchised but owned by the Cooperative Society. They are divided into regions i.e The East Midlands Cooperative Society etc. Other brands in the portfolio are Cooperative Bank (now re-branded) and Cooperative Insurance. Recently they have restyled their food branches to bring them up to date. They are one of the top farmers in this country and brought fair trade to the high street well before anyone else. I think if they were to have a store on Lordship Lane you would be pleasantly surprised. That said, M&S would do well here as well. Regards, Libra Carr.
  5. Hi, you are right, give a person a uniform and they will think they are it. I have to laugh at the various uniforms on Lordship Lane. The Security guard in Iceland, he followed a suspect around the store, them let him exit the shop without paying for the swag! the people queing in front of me were gobsmacked. I go in there for pint cans of Stella Artois ?1 a can. The Community Warden's, they go round in three's and despite being given new redesigned uniforms still manage to look crap. I have never ever seen them giving someone a tug for a misdeamenour. The Southern Train Ticket guy. He is a classic Hitler. I wanted a after 9.30 ticket at 9.20. He refused, but caved in at 9.25. It is strange because you can buy a cheap ticket the day before and are advised not to use it until 9.30! He also gets annoyed if you question the fact that the office is advertised at being open from 6.15 but never is. Regards, Libra Carr.
  6. Hi, We use brisket a lot. We either pot roast it in the slow cooker. Place the vegetables in first, and let it cook for eight hours (good if you are going out for half a day). Another way that we do it is season the joint, crumble two oxo cubes over it and place in the foil with a little water (2 Thbs). Turn the foil so that it seals, making sure the water cannot escape. Cook at gas mark 6 for about two hours. Separate the joint from the juices using the juice to make a gravy, put the joint back in the oven for another 20 minutes or so to brown off. A handy tip when you are buying meat is feel the fat. The firmer it is means you are paying for the fat which sometimes can be over a quarter of an inch. Regards, Libra Carr.
  7. Hi, Can anybody tell me why pedestrians press the button on a crossing, and then when the road is clear cross it without waiting for the green light?. I get really frustated waiting at a crossing when their is no-one to cross. This happens at the Iceland crossing regularly. Ee, am I goin off on one again.... Regards, Libra Carr.
  8. Hi, I have never been into the BMC but notice that if you want to go inside you have to cross pretend mosaic. Given that it is uneven and slippery when wet it constitutes a health and safety problem. I also noticed chairs that were not stable. Well, thats another needle into the death of a local business. Which is the next business that we will slag off and make them close. Regards, Libra Carr Suppliers of fresh food and salads to the gentry
  9. Hi, I went into the Uplands Cafe the other morning, good, quick, clean service. It was my first time having passed on many occasions. It was not full of workers either, you may want to try their. Regards, Libra Carr.
  10. Hi, I don't get out much. Is the Glades and Bromley on or off of Lordship Lane? Regards, Libra Carr.

  12. Hi, Just to clarify matters... A person in control of a vehicle has a duty of care at all times to other road users no matter if it is a car, van, lorry or bus. The driver should be fully observant. The point I was trying to make was that I indicate at all times irrespective of any pedestrian and irrespective of other road user's. Given that the pedestrian shows no sign of crossing a road and then suddenly enters the road without warning is where the problem is. Also, just to clarify the other point, I think that I am right in describing the Peckham situation. For instance, and I stand to be corrected, if someone was to describe being robbed, the person would say he was white or black or whatever. They also describe someone as being a devout Catholic, as in the case of the poor lad from Lee. I mentioned the word Muslim because it was relevant as the women could not see properly due to their headwear and therefore should take more care in pushing their children out into a bus, given that they have restricted vision. Regards, Libra Carr.
  13. Please can anyone tell me why there are so many numbheads in East Dulwich intent on killing themselves? I am in despair at the times people walk off the pavement across the side roads without looking, they are usually on the phone or push the buggies in front of them, endangering their precious loved ones! Even the stallholders in Northcross road exit their stall into the traffic risking life against sale. Just after you have missed them by millimetres they look at the driver as if he is in the wrong. Is this god's way of reducing the population further? This I suppose is not just a fad in East Dulwich. I exited the train station in Peckham last night, three young Muslim girls were pushing pushchairs into the road, one of them caught the pushchair on the last wheel of a Number 12 bus. No doubt it would be the fault of the driver. Thank heavens the baby was not dragged under the bus. Regards, Libra Carr.
  14. Hi again, My home would not be suitable for reading a paper as as soon as I return home I start to do jobs about the house, thats why some pubs leave papers for you to read. I also do not have a problem with mums spending money in local pubs and businesses as this helps the local community. I thought that my idea was a good one and that it would help the little one's appreciate the open air. In respect of breast feeding I think it should be encouraged, a lot of people feel embarressed about it, and if you do then i am very, very sorry for you. Breast feeding is natural it assists in bonding, I am of the opinion that it also makes mother/child ratio a lot happier in later life. I am deeply sorry if you misread my musings. regards, Libra Carr.
  15. Hi, I went into a pub the other day day at 2pm for a quiet pint and to read the paper before facing up to the other half. In the pub were about ten mums with the little ones, one woman was breast feeding, the atmosphere was clearly not right. Is it not a good idea for each mum to take turns and host a gathering at home, this way it would be better for the mother and child (as pub toilets and areas are clean but maybe not as clean as you would like)and would also be cheaper given the state of the economy. Another fresher alternative would be on a warm day meet up for a picnic. Each parent would take a rug and some food and drink, and let the children enjoy the fresh air, this way they can make as much noise as they like without the parent feeling concious. Regards, Libra Carr.
  16. Grow tomato plants? We were flying from Bakewell, Derbyshire on Sunday morning and noticed a small car boot sale that looked really interesting, the sale had fresh meat, plants and veg etc. I bought some tomato plants and asked the seller how to tend to them. It was quite funny as I could not understand him at all. Rather than appear rude I thought I would ask the forum! This is a new thread and it would be good to use it to problem solve. Kind regards, Libra Carr.
  17. Hi, I must admit that I have never been in the TCC. From outside it does not appeal to me. Perhaps we will try it one day. We used to go to Mr. Lui's on Lordship Lane but recently have been advised that they do not have food warmers! You order a banquet and expect the food to be kept warm. We have been unhappy on the last three occasions, on the last visit I had a meal accidentally poured down my back. I felt so sorry for the young girl serving. On the subject of food... We like to go out on a Sunday night for a indian buffet, all restaurants in Lordship Lane advertise 21 items of food for this buffet meal, The Pistachio restaurant is the worst so far only making available to you 14 items, the best is the Surma who had 22 items and then brought to me Spinach and fresh prawns pan fried completely free. Good Eh. Regards, Libra Carr.
  18. Hi, I am suffering as well! Try brown sauce on white bread, it removes gasses in the stomach and make's you a little more alert. I started early yesterday and paced myself all day. In the evening I went into the Surma (which was packed) and had another lager and a bottle of wine, I met a redhead (no hair, just a redhead) and we had a fair decent meal from the buffet. My question is how come indian people never seem to have to much problems in the dunny area of life? regards, Libra Carr.
  19. Hi, I have an issue as well with the council. They talk of recycling and energy conservation, why do they not have the rubbish truck, recycling truck and the garden waste truck follow each other as to ease congestion. Last week on three consecutive day's I was delayed by council trucks in my street. If, they followed each other this would reduce the carbon safety boot that they wear. Also, they did not correctly advise on the polling stations, I was told to go to a street on the east side of Lordship Lane, I went there and was told that I had to go to East Dulwich Grove (the swimming pool), on arrival I was told that I had to go to Crystal Palace Road. When I spoke with the returning officer he said that the East Dulwich entrance was not allowed as you would have to walk past the pool which was a safety issue. I was under the impression that a council would have knowledge of its properties and access. Is it me or does this generation not have common sense?. Regards, Libra Carr.
  20. Hi, I have spoken to Santa as the question puzzled me as well, evidently, he can tell by the way the email is written whether it is from a parent or a child (clever Eh). Each year when the parents are with their little one's in the grotto he gives the adult a code which must be shewn in the heading, otherwise a reply will not be forthcoming. In the matter of the person wanting a mansion and a pony, Santa looked at this request and decided to channel monies saved on this greed into a project in St. Lucia. This made a lot of people happy instead of one selfish, spoilt.... The rest has been deleted to protect the image of Santa. Kind regards, Libra Carr. Santa's bestest friend.
  21. Hi, For the benefit of EDF readers I posted the suspect businesses that have had problems with cloning in East Dulwich, this now may appear on pages two back. The two petrol stations in East Dulwich are helping the authorities with there enquiries as are all the other businesses mentioned. When using a card it may now be safer to use a hole in the wall and obtain cash to pay for purchases, as it appears fraudsters have moved away from the hole in the wall due to the attention they have received. A simple way to reduce theft is to not purchase any items from a store that may have periods of quiet. As the case is that in a period of quiet (2am in a petrol/foodstore) the defrauder has time to set up a reader without prying eyes. In the case of restaurants, you have to be careful when paying at any restaurant as the machine brought to the table is a WiFi/Bluetooth sort of transmission method and it may be that someone (customer using their phone) is able to read your card information if they have the correct programme installed on the phone. I think a good way to try and eradicate this fraud is to identify where the transaction has taken place. Note the venue and the time and ask to see the manager, place him/her on notice that a criminal offence has been commited and advise that this will be reported. When placing him on notice you must note the time that you spoke to him/her, and send this information to your card issuer I had a case once where the person who had the card bought a cheap item from a busy chain store, he then had cashback for fifty pounds. He did this some twenty times daily from the same store, relieving the card supplier of about ?1000 a day. At the end of the day the manager has a duty of care which covers all areas of the business. Regards, Libra Carr.
  22. Hi, It is really sad that some people place negative reports ( BOB ) on these postings. Christmas may be seasonal to you, but Santa does in fact work all the year round. Last years summer saw him in St. Lucia helping poor children in Vieuw Forte, of course, it would seem strange calling him by his real name in the summer so they call him "Papa John" for some reason (he may like pizza's perhaps). This year he is helping deprived children in Stevenage, Dagenham, and Sheffield. Such is his concern about the children in East Dulwich being disapointed, he is considering suggesting to the parents that he visits the children at home, he will in due course be emailing parents. Do not forget that this is the real Santa that takes the time to answer all emails (via the parents/guardian) on Christmas day, and sends regular emails all thought the seasons. If you need to contact Santa his email address is SantaInEngland@aol.com please note that he will only reply via a adults email address. Regards, Libra Carr.
  23. Hi, To reply to a earlier query, it is possible have your card cloned at tills in fact at anything that accepts your card. Recent problems have been had by South West Trains and London Underground as well, they are currently refusing certain types or age of cards including Amex. It has been suggested, but I do not know if this is true, if you had a credit card read on DLR it would show your details? Spooky Darling's Regards, Libra Carr.
  24. Hi, If Booteeki has closed down it will be rather sad for all the parents that took their little ones to see Father Christmas. He was at Booteeki for three years, and the grotto was quite magical. I think the reason it has closed is because of all the new children's clothes shop springing up in East Dulwich. Regards, Libra Carr.
  25. Hi, Its good news to see that the Green and Blue has reopened, I passed by tonight and saw everyone inside happy. I think its time we vote with our feet and help replenish their till! Darn knee's... always the first to go. Regards, Libra Carr.
