  1. Hi, We both work long hours and sometimes long shifts. We both have a car. What we do not want is to have to pay for a permit after paying road tax, tax on fuel.insurance ect. If we cannot park outside our house thats to bad, we park as close as possible. That said, we do not own the road outside our house and clearly, anyone can park there. Its a first come basis. When my Mum first moved here in 1950 there were only three cars in the whole road. I recently noticed that in the south side area of East Dulwich Road, they are doing works to install parking meters. This will only move the problem into East Dulwich. Regards, Libra Carr.
  2. Hi, Earth calling Mars..... What the hell are you on about!
  3. Hi, We had a van fully taxed, motc'd and insured. We used it for charity shows to help the less fortunate in various parts of England. We did the show's for free. Last year we only had two shows as all others were cancelled due to the weather. The cost of keeping the van on the road was tremendous. At one point the van stood for six months unused. I would like to think that this is an area where if a vehicle is legal and all duties have been paid it should be left alone. I think it is very sad for people to suggest 'Hot Wiring' and other means as you do not know the circumstances of the owner. Further, I also believe that suggesting it is a criminal offence as you become a party to the offence. If a vehicle is damaged and a complaint is made to the Police they can, by law, order the Administrator to disclose the discriminating postings author. Regards, Libra Carr.
  4. Hi, I heard that Tesco's were interested in the address as they have nothing in between Old Kent Road and Dulwich. They try to establish a run or route which helps the transport/movement factor. Peckham is stong in other supermarkets. If Tesco's do get it it will probably be half food / half household/clothes etc.
  5. Hi again, Sorry to say it is not , unless you listen to gossip or mindless talk! As i said in my posting I will try to get the codes. Try having a look at the wall at the far end of the Grove on the left hand side and away from the Locale Cafe you you will see what I mean. Add to that the number of white vans that are in the road that have never had graffiti on them. Why do a wall when you can do a van. You may want to dismiss this, but if you do not believe then make a casual enquiry at any police station. I would like to hear of your comments when you have enquired at the local nick. Regards, Libra Carr.
  6. Hi, My wife (who works for the Met) told me that proffesional burglers leave marks outside of your house, to signify if it is a easy or hard target. Commonly it is a chalk mark etched onto the fence, gate, wall or house wall! I will try to get the codes and post it on EDF. In the meantime if you see a mark erase it or add to it /MET. That might put the shoots up them. Regards, Libra, Carr.
  7. Hi, I am really sorry to hear about your burglary. We too live on Oakhurst Grove and will advise all to be more vigilant. Without giving to many details can you advise if you live at the Goose Green end, the middle or the Northcross Road end. I had my van broken into last year and had over 8k worth of equipment stolen which was well hidden in the van. The thief was in and out within seconds and did not exit the area. (I had a alarm but it did not go off!) I leave my house at varying times of the night and day for work and am naturally suspicious, if I see anything not right, I always advise the police, they are grateful because it helps them to draw a pattern and put into place preventitive measures like slow driving down side roads and more foot patrols in the less used roads. Once again I am sorry for your loss. Kind regards, Libra Carr.
  8. Hi, I find it really strange that anyone got away from the cafe, as the mosaic is really a danger, the ambulance was probably for the robber, who now may sue for loss of earnings, harm and the owner not having a duty of care to robbers. Regards, Libra Carr.
  9. Hi, The busses are getting worse, this is due to the high cost of fuel, so they are standing down busses wheras before they would run them at half capacity. Clearly Boris does not have input in the day to day management of transport as they are different providers, but as Mayor he can oversee matters, if the situation becomes dire he can act. Look at it this way... I waited one hour fifty minutes for my roast chicken to cook, can he, as Mayor, speed up the roasting process for me? Its back in your court. Regards, Libra Carr.
  10. Hi, I got to East Croydon Station at 5.15pm yesterday and was told that I would have to change at Streatham Common, to get to East Dulwich. The train that I needed to get to Streatham Common was some 20 mins later (the fourth train in the queue) I got to Streatham and then had to wait another 20-30 mins (this time three trains came in before the one that I could board to get me home. One train was for Watford Junction - at most it had four passengers in each carriage! In all a journey that would take about forty minutes, took well over a hour and half. Today we utilised our gas guzzling Mercedes Viano that can hold eight people in luxury with a guaranteed seat to work, we beat the train! The only annoying factor was that the driver made two announcements 'We will be arriving at East Croydon Station 16 minutes ahead of the usual train time' and 'When leaving this vehicle please make sure you take all bags (Mother in Law included) when you depart. The Merc is fully insured for hire and reward and has public liability insurance cover as well. It is free to travel in but you contribute to fuel and expences, which is 17% cheaper than the train (calculated at 2 journey's x 5 day's a week) In short you might as well go back to your car, travel in a comfort capsule, not get coughed and sneezed upon, and not suffer the innane attitude of Southern Railway staff. Oh by the way, the facility has been fully signed up and there are no seats currently available (a bit like Southern). Kind regards, Libra, Carr.
  11. Hi, I was in Somerfield last night and saw a pack of ten Boddingtons Beers, by the checkout for 1.29!!! they are reduced and need to be opened by the end of November! I now know what I can give the children for breakfast Ha Ha! Remember, drink resposibly, give the family one to share, and have the other nine for yourself. PS They make a good contribution to Beef and Ale pie. Regards, Libra Carr.
  12. Hi, I may have missed the point but who is it that actually owns Brighton Nuclear Power? Does this mean that we are going to have a wind farm in East Dulwich. And will that awful DJ 'Diddy' Hamilton do the voice over's for the adverts?. Regards, Libra Carr.
  13. Hi, I am really amazed that the Drum had regulars! I passed it at varying times of the day and night and hardly saw anyone ever innit. The only person in there on Thursday was a redhead - no hair just a redhead. Regards, Libra Carr.
  14. Hi, I have just spent the last four hours trying to give away tickets on the Re-cycle website to no avail. I have two tickets (possibly four) to see Ross Noble at the Apollo. This is a 'Open Mike / BBC Production and is for the 19th November 2008 (this Wednesday). The recording starts at 18.45hrs, and you need to be there at 18.30Hrs. Given that I am on the list, I do not want a no show situation, which will affect my further ticket allocation, this is why I offer the tickets.. If you want these tickets, email me at LibraCarr@aol.com straight away. I am in Lordship Lane tonight and can hand them over. As soon as I have given the tickets away, I will advise the forum so that your time is not wasted, Kind regards, Libra Carr Libra Carr.
  15. Hi again, This school is well served by a number of busses that converge on the immediate area. If you had a little darling and lived in say Putney, you could put the child on the bus with his crisps, mobile phone (you know the one with the annoying and loud ring tone), his runny nose etc and he would still get to school quicker than the parent can drive him. I think it is the laziness of the parent that is the problem. Regards, Libra Carr.
  16. Hi, Has anyone noted the amount of parents who ignore the no parking yellow ziz zag lines out side of the school? Yesterday it was total bedlam as parents enter the road from both ends and cause congestion. In the 3-5 minutes I was in the road I noted that two minor collisions occured with the drivers not stopping! I wonder if the PCSO's that were issuing tickets to bike riders could do the same to the offenders, as a fine and points might make them think of their own children and other's safety. Kind regards, Libra Carr.
  17. Hi, Is there any chance that you had been drinking Stella Artois? Regards, Libra Carr
  18. Hi, I have noticed recently that someone is advertising a Santa service that will visit you and your children at home. The flyer is displayed in a number of shop windows in East Dulwich. The email/website address is 'Santa In London' with the usual ident formats. No mention is made in the flyer that they have had the required CRB checks, worrying or what. I checked the details on this and was under the belief that this advert was from the Santa who used to be at Booteeki, Melboure Grove (as the shop in now closed) but it is not. It also appears that the above have a similar address to this Santa (his is 'Santa in England @aol.com.') You may know that he was resident at Booteeki for three years and created a following, his email replies were read (for his own safety) by a officer within the employ of the Met before being sent. His reply service was not only answered on Christmas Day but continues throughout the year. I spoke with him last year and he said that he calls around 200 children (via the parent/guardians phone) on Christmas Eve at his own cost, and also answers all emails within four hours on Christmas Day. One child even wrote to him in the summer explaining that her Mum and Dad had parted company and could he help to get them back together. I asked him how he managed to fit all this in and he replied that Children and Christmas are far more important than anything else. Whilst cooking The Christmas Lunch he has his computer speakers on loud so that he can instantly reply to the youngsters - that must really peave his family/guests!. The purpose of this message is that if you have visited him at Booteeki you might think that the flyer's are advertising his services, they are not. Take a close look at the photo, it shows the 'Santa' with PVC pretend boots and a beard that is ill fitting and clearly not fool proof. I can only assume that this is a commercial enterprise cashing in on Christmas. Given that the Booteeki Santa is traditional, real, kind, generous and not money making, you may want to persuade him to visit you prior to his busy day. You can ask, he may refuse, but you can ask. After this posting, hopefully Santa will realise that I do need a Bentley to get me to work, I do need the month on a exotic island as a holiday, and I do need the ten million pounds a year for my basis expenses! Regards, Libra Carr. Keeping Christmas Commercial Free and Traditional
  19. Hi, You can get free fold out maps that split London into four from the information office at Peckham Bus terminal. They are very useful, easy to read and free. Regards, Libra Carr.
  20. Hi, Is this streetcar called desire... or am I missing something. regards, Libra Carr.
  21. Hi, Bikes are good and a nice form of transport. Please someone tell me why they only have lights to the front and rear. They cut across the front of you and then get annoyed because you have not seen them. as in all forms of transport make sure you can be seen from all sides! regards, Libra Carr.
  22. Hi, Well that was along ang going round the bushes statement! Regards, Libra Carr
  23. Hi, Has anyone noticed the big hole on the Green? it has barriers around it which have fallen over, it seems to have been insitu for ages. My question: Is the hole there for moaners and numbheads or is it there for doggy doo doo's? regards, Libra Carr.
  24. Hi, Can anybody tell me what is the point of train operators and Councils asking you to take your newspaper with you, and then not emptying the bins at the station. At 6.30 this morning all bins were full to excess with papers on the floor surrounding the bins. Is not a good idea to leave it to the train operators to clear the mess up as they seem to dispose of it quite well. And another thing.... I popped into McDonalds yesterday (not to eat) and went to the loo. On the urinals it boasts that the toilets are 'waterless' and that they save on each urinal in excess of 100,000 litres of water a year. If that is the case we need to give them some kind of award, as they have so many branches throughout the UK, surely, they have single saved this Island from flooding and even worse from sinking! Regards, Libra Carr.
  25. Hi, In reply to the last contributor, have you ever thought about changing your circle of friends? Regards, Libra Carr.
