  1. I live on oakhurst Grove and was broken into 12 months ago. I live in fear it will happen again. Mind you I've no jewellery left to take. They caught him, was after drug money. Was his 18th conviction for breaking and entering. Horrible.
  2. ED needs something, I like it here but there is not enough going on - cinema be good!
  3. We had our van keyed on Oakhurst Grove, hate people that do that. We were also broken in to. Shame.
  4. Cool, hoping it is a nicer pub now, great spot near the station!
  5. East Dulwich is cool, in terms of sport I go to a run club, intervals and some fun with the girls that take part, Mondays at 715 on Peckham Rye Park. Not sure about boxing and stuff but be interesting to hear if you find anything.
  6. I feel for you, I was broken in to in January and cannot replace the sentimental items that were taken. OR the photso on the camera. It made me feel so uncomfortable in my own home. There are a lot of low lifes about in this area and I have to say, I cannot wait to move out of London in general as wherever you go, there seem to be a high ratio of idiots about. They caught the man that broke in to mine, his 18th conviction - he wanted to go back to prison, life is better in there for him - that is what I was told. Way I look at it, if you steal, cut your hand off. Simple. May deter some of the idiots out there that steal as they are too lazy to work and save and buy things like the rest of us. Plenty of DSS benefits people out there that could work. Makes me mad. Sorry, rant over!

Maybe look a little bit away from the Market, as ED is so nice it would be a shame to be disturbed. And I think prices go down a bit. I love the Market, I love the area, I eat on the market every week and it tastes lush! It adds something to the area, and I like to support it and the shops on the high street. If you dont buy, it wont last and people are just making a living doing something they enjoy - more of us should try that!!! I posted a post when I moved here about places to go, asking for advice - see if you can find, it as it was a nice string of posts unlike some of this one :) Welcome to ED.
  8. My boyfriend and I are thinking of taking a 3 week trip to Central America at the end of the year. Can anyone recommend places to go, places to stay, places to avoid? We will be back packing, we like to experience culture, eat local food, meet local people...I love the beach so we would like a chilled out place to stay on the beach too... Thoughts welcome!
  9. The police think he is lying, he may had sold that day and got on the drugs. I am Oakhurst Grove area. Very sad state of affairs - thanks for all your messages.
  10. Stay in, in the warm, or dress up and go out and enjoy it!
  11. I was broken in to last week, They caught the guy that broke in, he was fresh out of prison, wanted to go back in, left his prints and waited to get picked up - said he hid my stuff in a bush and went back to get it and it was gone - if anyone hears of anything like this, let me know, I would love my jewellery back :( He took watches, a camera with extra zoom lense, my granddads tie pin, my gold bracelet and cash :(

  14. Thanks for your lovely messages, I am feeling OK thanks. I don't have much of value, I now have nothing and I will miss my jewellery as it was sentimental to me. Let's keep our eyes open and hope we can stop some of our neighbours going through the same.
  15. I had my front door pushed in and my jewellery cash camera etc taken. It seems to be a common theme - we need as neighbours to look out for each other. There is obviously a lot of scum about in this area which is a shame. I feel so violated, I am living on my own in a ground floor flat on a road I thought was alright, until my neighbour showed me photos of her face having been attached on Oakhurst Grove, and now this, I feel so unsafe. The police did not even hang around to see if I was OK when I got in, if they had I could have shown them other places to fingerprint, could have told them they bastards had taken a side access key. Let's be aware that this is taking place in broad daylight and try and stop it happening. I dont want others to go through this, make sure you have contents insurance, I dont unfortunately.
  16. I was broken into yesterday on Oakhurst Grove, they smashed my front door in. My lovely jewellery, camera, holiday photos included, cash - gone. My granddad's tie pin, all I had to remind me of him other than my memories. Disgusted. Scum.
  17. My flat was broken in to yesterday, Oakhurst Grove - as neighbours let's keep our eyes and ears open and catch the scum that are basically ripping on East Dulwich right now. We need bettter police presense.
  18. I was burgled yesterday, lunchtime, on Oakhurst Grove - cash my jewellary and cameras and laptops, I am disgusted - what is going on here, why are there not more police about - I keep reading about this happening in ED. Why on earth I did not think to get contents insurance, I got a quote a month ago but had not followed up. They now have a key to my side access, hopefully my landlord is going to sort this all out but being that he did not listen when I first said our communal door was not secure enough, I have my doubts. As neighbours, we must keep our eyes open and try and prevent this from happening to many others. My jewellery will be in some pawn shop funding someones drug habit no doubt. Words dont go far enough to express my disgust at these people, if you steal you derserve your hands being cut off.
  19. I would do anything to get rid of that Co Op as quite frankly it's the worse supermarket I have ever been in. The meat and fish selection is quite disgusting usually and the staff unhelpful. Bring on Waitrose when the service is fabulous all of the time.
  20. Front page of the Metro today, check out the online version if you missed it... Can someone explain to me how companies get away with not paying taxes by using overseas tax havens? It seems obvious to cut down on the amount companies can "hide" so why does it not happen?!
  21. personally i think the market is lovely and complements the local shops. healthy competition is good, it keeps everyone on their toes to keep supplying quality goods. Broadway Market in east london is an old haunt of mine - is much bigger and is always packed out on a Saturday. This means the pubs along the road do well and generally the area is busy and more people get to know about it as a nice area. This means more people come, demand goes up and we can see more individual shops open. My old home town has seen most of the local shops close and the high st is almost a ghost town - people shop out of town and have no reason to go into town, very sad. I think anything that encourages people to an area, to get out and about, talk to locals, visit local pubs, restaturants, browse and buy from the stall is a good thing. I think we should encourage it - i would rather buy good local produce than spend my hard earned money in sainsbury!
  22. noooooo! so i have to go with virgin?? or can i not get an aerial into the property? it cannot be that hard, surely? Does virgin now have a basic freeview box?
  23. This is all great... So far I have taken in various suggestions and also discovered the No 37 bus which is great for the Ritzy in Brixton etc - altho I found it pretty expensive at over ?10 a film ticket and ?4 for 2 small bottles of water! No wonder I am always skint!
  24. That is so scary, I have just moved onto Oakhurst Grove into a rented flat and thought the area was really safe. What a shame. Luckily my neighbour doesn't work and is home a lot of the time. It's good to be vigilent, I will keep my eyes open, there are some nasty people out there.
  25. Hello OK, here is the issue...I have a Virgin line coming into the flat, apparently. I do not want to go with Virgin, I want to buy a Freeview box. Can I use the line already coming in to the flat to connect the Freeview box to the TV? I am so confused! It does not seem to be a standard TV ariel! Can anyone help!
