You can check in the garden by digging a trench to the level of your property's foundations - away from the drains. Even though clay is permeable it does have a certain impermeabilty to it so if it fills quick it is the ground water and not drains or mains. Also check to see if your boiler pressure has dropped recently - just in case.

@Chill - I hope no offence taken.

@Deliah/Chillaxed - Probably not my best point of view but I still don't see the relevance of age stats for blade carrying. It is their choice to do it and they should be severly punished whatever age. I work with sharp "tools" all day but I won't take one out on the street with me.

@Che/Deliah An 18yr old carrying a knife is just as bad as a juvenile carrying a knife, and so on. Juveniles can generally run quicker - and hand over quicker. Stats do not show the true picture. As other people have mentioned, carrying a blade in public is not to be condoned and penalties for such possession should be far more aggresive. If someone, of any age, thought that they would receive a 20 year term for carrying a blade then I am sure the incidents would reduce drastically. Albeit we would have to pay for their time served. But make it hard labour - or clean up the dog sh@t.

Tree pruning around Scutari/Therapia (again!) why?
Rianoo replied to fatfightersforever's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Strange thing was the people that did the work came in an unmarked truck - so maybe a different sub-contratcor could do a better job i.e finish by replanting. -
Tree pruning around Scutari/Therapia (again!) why?

Two trees have been felled on Heber Road recently with no sign of digging the root out and replanting which is a shame. For whatever it is worth, to me, it is a half hearted job. -
Sunday Times best place to Live - Dulwich?

Sunday Times best place to Live - Dulwich?
Rianoo replied to Laur's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I am guessing Dulwich - but, for me, it depends on age range. Friends of mine (30's) live in Dulwich but spend most time in ED. Their neighbours (60+) never leave Dulwich. I have lived in Acton and now live in ED so I can always sit back and think I nearly made it ;-) -
North Cross Road.

Runcent Joinery (Nth X Rd) to become a 3-bed house
Rianoo replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bottom of the hill as well - I saw them surveying this morning. I hope that the piles and tanking are up to scratch or it will be a pool. Logistical nightmare and mega expensive. Most houses around here have tiny foundations - good luck to them. -
Nice geo work. Your window ledge needs a scrub after 5 years. If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Japan - spend a day in Tokyo and go up to the top of the Goverment Building (forget what its called) and take a photo - then compare to London. We have it good, at the moment.

May have been drawn on a Saturday - early doors though - the bike mechanic has made it in. -
Yes, if you drove off after the offence but before the ticket was placed on your windscreen. What will happen is that a reminder will be posted after the "pay half price" date has passed. You may want to check your reg on the council site (I know some councils do this) to see if your vehicle has a PCN - then pay it before it goes up. If they have photos then they will enforce it. I also noticed that a parking enforment patrol was on LL this morning with its erection poking from the roof - if they caught you on that then they will notify you by post. I hope neither is the case.

I went to Prettys* on Sunday - served up a full English at 1pm, which they didn't used to do (correct me). Lovely food. Decent meat, quality beans, half mushrooms, proper inch thick bread, real tomato sauce (which for me is the key), a good slice of black pudding, good eggs and er.... leaves on the side. I couldn't move after that brunch. Best in ED in my humble opinion. Friendly too - probably the most important thing thinking about it. Now don't tell anyone.

Spate of burglaries in East Dulwich
Rianoo replied to EastDulwichRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can buy a wireless Yale alarm for about ?120 at ScrewFix. Easy to set up and bloody loud. They can also be programmed to ring your phone if they are triggered then you can call the Police immediately. This does require a bit of work as the alarm pad needs to be wired into a phone socket. If anyone needs any help setting them up then PM me. -
We urgently need a stage for the Dulwich Festival Fair music!
Rianoo replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have been to gigs where the stage was a delivery lorry - they simply undo the side covers and it opens up. Its also water proof and you just need to drive it where it is level. You have probably thought of this but I thought I would chip it in. -
I had the same problem as yourself in my place. To remedy this the floor boards were lifted and then 600mm x 2400mm boards screwed to the joists. On top of this was sound insulation mat and then the old floor relaid, screwed down so no annoying squeaks. Unfortunately it was messy and time consuming but it did the job. Plus the flat felt alot more solid under foot and possilbly warmer.

@LondonMix I'm not being snide - just saying how it is. It is a reality.

Not being able to sleep rough for days on end due to the bitter cold can drive anyone insane. At the coldest time of year where can you get warmth, a bed and hot meals ? Many people choose to get themselves arrested out of desperation. Sad but true. This is why the police just let individuals on their way, it is seen as a release of a burden. On another note, whilst shopping the other day I noticed that a certain store has tripled security. Maybe a mobile soup kitchen in their carpark would be more beneficial using the food nobody wants to buy or can't now steal.

What does Lordship Lane need?

Something reasonably priced would a good start - anything. -
T25 VW stolen overnight from Upland Rd 11.10.12
Rianoo replied to Paulo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You are not the first round here recently - VW campers seem all the rage for thieves recently. Not sure how to avoid flatbed removal other than to garage them or secure them to the ground some how. I will keep an eye out. -
Is it safe to run to Denmark Hill at 6am in the morning
Rianoo replied to reneet's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wouldn't risk it.....anywhere past the roundabout is a bit iffy. -
Thanks for that info - rian

Out of interest - does any know of an "Artists at home" style gathering that happens in or around ED each year. There is one in West London each year which is very popular and a good day/weekend out.
