  1. Cyclists are murderous. But only at night. There's a conspiracy. It's all organized. They come at you from all directions of the compass, congregating on likely victims identified with night-vision goggles and an attack coordinated by text messages ends in some poor random pedestrian being run over multiple times often with spiked bicycle wheels. Not a pretty sight.
  2. Fabricio the Guido Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Justice" and "the law" make uneasy bedfellows. > That and relationships represent the triumph of > hope over experience. You can learn that in law school I suppose or just by following politics. The bit about relationships -- that's an indirect quote from Samuel Johnson who used that phrase to describe a second marriage. Extending it to relationships in general is even more cynical and yes, one can learn that at uni, although not in class.
  3. Unfortunately I'll be deep in the Amazon jungle at that time and unable to make it. However I have a Yanomami acquaintance named . . . eh, it's something unpronounceable, just call him Bill -- he'd love to come. He speaks very little English, but is better with Portuguese, and he knows some truly remarkable drinks that I'm confident none of you have ever heard of. I'll provide a letter of introduction.
  4. Just a little more astronomical nerdiness. It probably wasn't a supernova, but if it was, then it also doesn't represent a star dying now but rather one dying a long time ago. The Milky Way galaxy is about 100,000 light years in diameter, which means that the light from that star, if it was a star, could take tens of thousands of years to reach the earth. Of course if it was the ISS then whatever was happening with it was much more recent.
  5. What's natural for a cow isn't necessarily natural for a cat or a human. When was the last time you dined on fresh grass or raw whole grain? Or your own half-digested regurgitated food? I like this thread; it's always fun to see how far the stirring of controversy will go and how many detours it will take. Regarding the original topic, I must agree with the person who said that the meat industry as currently practiced is so inhumane that the specific treatment of geese in this case does not stand out.
