Stay at home/part time working mum meet up
daisylou79 replied to laney1's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi. I would love to come on Tuesday. I may be slightly late as we have something over lunchtime. But fingers crossed we can make it. Lou. -
There isn't much shade at Ruskin Park pool. I only take my daughter there for 20 minutes to splash around - either first thing in the morning or around 4pm. It's really busy in the middle of the day with older kids running around (which is fine but my little one is only 16 months and could easily get taken out by an excited five year old!) I have to say - it's not the cleanest pool in the world. I was a bit worried when my daughter tried to drink some of the water. But it's great for a quick cool down. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to stay indoors either. I was really excited about being back in work yesterday in a lovely air conditioned office. Heaven.

Ruskin Park has the lovely kiddy pool which is great and not too busy first thing in the morning. But we generally come home for lunch and stay in the shade - it's just too hot to be out in the direct sun in the middle of the day. I slathered child with suncream today but forgot myself and burnt my neck and shoulders pushing the buggy. We spent a lot of time mooching around lovely air conditioned Sainsbo's this afternoon and it was rammed with loads of people clearly doing the same thing. Starbucks must be doing a roaring trade!

Stay at home/part time working mum meet up
daisylou79 replied to laney1's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Me too! I have a 16-month-old daughter and am a stay-at-home/work-from-home mum. We are in Denmark Hill. Would love to meet up sometime. Lou -
LuceB, thanks so much. I will let bro-in-law (IanConni) know. Thank you. EJTH is right - such community spirit on this forum - so reassuring and comforting!
-
Thank you - we are holding out that it may reappear. If the bike was in the area of the Gardens on Monday afternoon, it does sound as though the lads who were trying to break into a flat around that time could be something to do with it....but maybe we're putting two and two together and making five. If anyone sees the bike, please do let us know! Thanks so much.

Hi everyone My lovely brother-in-law had his beloved bike stolen from his shared lobby on Sunday. He'd only just moved in to the new flat in SE22(had been there less than 24 hours) so is understandably gutted! We would be grateful for anyone who could keep an eye out and let us know (send me a private message) if the bike turns up. Here are the details... Black Trek hybrid. Road wheels-Michelin Tyres. Double function pedals. Front suspension. I have attached a pic. Thanks so much.

Is anyone going to Ikea any time soon?
daisylou79 replied to daisylou79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks for the tip, Hellosailor - much appreciated. We are now sorted for bears as someone very kindly picked three up for us! I was bowled over by all the kind offers we got - this forum really is fantastic. Thanks to every one who got in touch. -
Hello. This is a really random request. My ten month old daughter was given a teddy bear from Ikea for Christmas. She has formed a real attachment to it and it's helping her to go to sleep at night - quite surprising as she's resisted all previous snuggy toys. I'm thinking it would be safe to buy a couple of spares - they are only ?1 each so I can afford to do this! But we don't have a car and it would be a nightmare to get to Ikea with the pram on public transport. No one else we know seems to be going there any time soon. So I wondered - if any kind ED Forum-ers happen to be going there anyway in the next couple of weeks, would you mind picking up two of the teddies for me, please? I would of course pay you back for them and reward your kindness wiht a bottle of vino or a bottle of something else if you don't drink! Please PM me if you think you might be able to help. Thanks so much for reading.

Running out of options...Controlled Crying
daisylou79 replied to Ellie78's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi. It's a comfort to read this thread and know that we are not the only ones! We are also having terrible troubles getting our little one to sleep - but she is eight month old. She has never slept well and cannot self settle. I feel it's my fault as I've always fed her to sleep but then that started because she had colic in the early days and would scream for hours every evening. Tonight, we've been trying to get her down since 6.30pm. Neither of us have eaten - we are doing shift work going into to shush her/rock her etc. But as she's very active, she just springs up in the cot crying so we have to start all over again. All the above advice is very helpful. We don't want to do controlled crying. I will look into Nicola Watson's sleep seminars. Ellie, I hope you get your sleeping problems sorted soon. -
Hi Bella. This is a bit late but just to say Sarah was great, when we did our course in January. I was in total denial about having to give birth but her classes were really helpful and reassuring. We also made some great friends through the course. I think we were all a bit shy about staying in touch afterwards but Sarah insisted that we all made a date to meet up and that really made it so much easier. Part of NCT is meeting a group of fellow new parents! Hope it all goes well for you.

Naming ceremony/first birthday
daisylou79 replied to daisylou79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks! Will have a look at the community centre. -
Hello. Just looking for some advice. We're thinking of having a combined naming ceremony/first birthday for our daughter in the spring (lots of time to plan - just trying to be organised for once!) Has anyone done this? If so, did you do a humanist ceremony or use the services at a local town hall? And where did you hold it, if it was a humanist ceremony? We're looking for a venue around E Dulwich/Denmark Hill/Herne Hill for around 30 people. We'll consider somewhere catered or a place with facilities for us to cater it ourselves. And finally, how did it go down with your friends and family? Having read the info on the humanist website, it seems perfect for us. But it will be a first for both our families - most tend to get christened or do nothing - and I am wondering what they will think of it all! Thanks in advance.

Semi/formal breastfeeding dress: Where to buy?
daisylou79 replied to Saffron's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi. I got a fab dress from Mrs Robinson on Lordship Lane. It's by Ingenue London - it's navy blue with a white bird print (but they do loads of prints - have a look at the Ingenue London website). Although it's not a breastfeeding dress it was perfect for my sister's wedding when my daughter was seven weeks old and feeding non stop. The top is low cut and perfect for discreet feeding. The skirt looks quite fifties and full. It was really comfy and I will definitely wear it again. It was ?85 so hardly cheap but worth it as I didn't have to trail up and down Oxford Street trying loads of stuff on! Oh and the best thing is that it's machine washable on thirty degrees. I can only find a link to the red colourway but you get the idea... http://ingenuelondon.com/online-shop/short-dresses/pepita-3-4-sleeves-red-brid.html Hope you find something. -
Spring babies club (due March/Apr/May 2012)
daisylou79 replied to Family Room Moderator's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi ladies I am a bit late to this party (I'm due on Monday!) but I've only just found out about this club. My hubby and I live in Denmark Hill and are relatively new to the area so we'd love to hear about any social events. As I may (hopefully) be giving birth this weekend it's probably more likely that we'd come along once the baby has been born. I hope that's ok. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and hope everyone's pregnancies are going well! Good luck if any of you are due in the next few days, like me. Thanks, Louise
