My family all spend as much as we can comfortably afford - which varies considerably (my sister is 18 and unemployed, sorry, on a gap year, so doesn't have much!). My inconsiderate partner's birthday is three days before Christmas. He gets joint presents, which I'm sure he appreciates lots :)
