  1. Another warning he approached me in Dog Kennel Hill sainsburys car park about a week ago. didn't give him anything, but he was convincing. By the time i got back in the car, he was back on his bike and cycled off.
  2. wow, we almost have enough places to do a Grand Designs walking tour ;)
  3. I have to agree with Blah Blah - its how fast this "gentrification" or cleansing or what ever you want to call it has evolved. Would say up to about the early 2000s - everyone had the chance to get a foot on the property ladder, no matter who you were - postman, shop worker, teacher etc. Where now to be it seems you have to be in a couple, both with high flying city jobs to be living in the SE21/22/24 area. The local shops were run independently. No one had a coffee addiction or intolerance to gluten or lactose. But times change and all those little local shop owners are at retiring age or can't afford the rents, so in swoop the chains. Plus all the flats being built with a supermarket chain underneath. I'm starting to feel like the only pauper in the village. I just guess slowly , we will turn into the hampstead/primrose hill of the south.
  4. check this post, silver ring found, http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?31,1795219
  5. Is this still correct, a vets ? door was open today, looked very swanky inside
  6. did a quick google search. and came up with his company ownership. https://companycheck.co.uk/director/916433148/ANDREW-JOHN-CULLEN/companies you could try calling the UK office and leave him a message. https://www.paymentexpress.co.nz/contact Looks to be him, London bridge office so assume item found on train or bus. Hope he is reunited with it
  7. http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/isnt-covent-garden-landlady-leave-nags-head-pub-rent-doubles-75000-per-month/ also sad to read this a few days ago, not strictly ED, but it shows the changing face of everywhere. sad that everywhere is turning into yummy mummy territory. proper south london boozers will be assigned to history.
  8. I think the problem here is not the car, but the person behind the wheel. Most of us will be sensible drivers, if behind the wheel of a Porsche or a Nissan Micra. I have to agree, cars on HH are sometimes going A LOT faster than 30mph and the frightening thing is the undertaking into the bus lane travelling at 40+mph and approaching the zebra crossing by the shops. Slightly further afield, is the new layout in Brixton by the Currys. Bus lane is now wider and numerous times I have been in my lane going towards brixton and people (on other side) overtaking into my lane and happily travelling into oncoming traffic - sure its only a matter of time before there is a nasty crash.
  9. i believe this is a regular one in Clapham. www.claphamcarboot.co.uk I've not been so no idea if its any good, anyone been ?
  10. I stand corrected. FM sounds like a bargain pizza place. I will have to visit, no wonder it looks so busy all the time. I think on the face of it, it looked like it would be expensive.
  11. lol, i'm not that hungary , i did mean as a couple, ?10 per pizza and ?10 for 2 drinks and service Inkmaiden Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > herne hilly Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > Francho Mancha, > > is targeted at people of a certain price bracket > - > > not sure if their pizza prices but guessing > they > > are a tenner each , plus drinks and service, it > > will be a minimum of ?30 - for me this is half > my > > weekly shop budget. > > Do you mean ?30 just for you? 12. I think there is 2 debates going on here, the heathly food debate and gentrification. Was driving around East Dulwich towards Peckham Morrisons i noticed so many new places that are for the hipster types that have the budget to buy a coffee for ?3 and a sandwich for ?5. I'm on a budget and although I would love to sit in a coffee shop and have a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmellows - I see it as a waste of money and I could buy a whole jar or coffee/hot choc for the same price. But I understand not everyone is like me - so the posh French place, meat liquor and Francho Mancha, is targeted at people of a certain price bracket - not sure if their pizza prices but guessing they are a tenner each , plus drinks and service, it will be a minimum of ?30 - for me this is half my weekly shop budget. And there are cheaper places to eat, obviously not as fancy but weatherspoons/harvester are on option for those on a budget, for the occasionally treat. I have only ever had subway once, can't say it was memorable, but working people that need a budget lunch for a few pounds - why not ? Not every store on the high street can serve low calorie food - its out responsibility to manage our diets. For everyone that has put a downer on the idea of a subway , get off their high horse and stop thinking that ED should be the Kings road and trying to socially cleanse the shops. All types of people live in ED - those on benefits, low paid workers and very well paid professionals in million pound houses - it should a place for ALL
  13. i've had 2 lots of chuggers in Herne hill knock on the door - cancer research and some homeless charity.
  14. i never really got it, never even went in, seemed a bit intimidating. Why not just put it on ebay, few pics and measurements and the option to add percentage of your sale to charity
  15. ohhh ggoodness, please NO, i despise starbucks with a passion. less and less places for me to go in ED. Used to pop into the HSBC to pay in the odd cheque to my first direct. Didn't know the post office could be used. Now need to find a po without long queues. This is such a shame ! Sure Barclays will have closures soon. i went to the tulse hill branch it was so busy and the lady said it was because they had just closed the Norwood branch on westow hill.
  16. Saying that the I was in the US in the summer and they had self service kiosks at the pharmacy and grocery store. So times are changing everywhere. Its sad to see independents being pushed out by the giants, but who would open a convenience store especially with high rents, rates and having to open from 8am till 11pm.
  17. what a shame its not going to be waitrose lol. I'm joking ! i'm fed up with all of them, everywhere you turn a flaming tesco express or sainsbury local has popped up. I to thought it was very small, how much money do these locals take, or is it just about having a street presence.
  18. Wow, that really does look like bad damage, what an awful thing to happen. But, just wanted to say (not getting at you), that people really need to start using common sense when parking, those around the SE24 area side roads will know what I am talking about, is people parking on the edge of all corners of a junction and when large vehicles do get there, it does get tricky. i believe the highway code says "10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space"
  19. I just had a look online and you can get an appointment for 3rd dec was the earliest. not booked by calling as not had any urgent issues, i always go online but obviously not good for your situation. Hope u get seen on monday as least.
  20. Its sad to see but its such a huge investment for an independent to open a business can only see it go to a chain, be it waitrose or greggs or any other brand. Can see this place being a restaurant. Not strictly ED, but was on Denmark Hill today Costa Coffee is opening. Very sad as there are already 5 type coffee shops nearby - all independent ones except Greggs, another next to Greggs and then 3 more across the lights towards Kings.
  21. i got a mag today through the letterbox, Absolutely South East - very high quality paper, had a flick through and straight into the recycling. Seems like such a waste.
  22. They are also around the Herne hill area but they seem to be considerately parked so no real issues. Any car could park and be left if its not permit /residents road. I have had a car parked in front of my house thats not moved for weeks - so not much that can be done about that either. The perils of living without a drive or in a CPZ.
  23. Also being reported on BBC London on BBC1. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2057252/One-dead-injured-double-shooting-near-funeral-south-east-London.html
  24. So far ITV saying "one dead, one injured. Armed police hunt, funeral was being held at Camberwell cemetery of boy killed in car crash, 6 shots fired" Very Sad.
  25. Its on ITV London tonight, Live Reports
