Has anyone received their garden/brown bin sticker?
herne hilly replied to Mrs C's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think they are going on the model that Lambeth have. They have a small food bin and then you buy these green sacks and pay the yearly subscription. The 2 green sacks = a 1 brown bin. In my view the sacks are better as you can carry them through the house (if you dont have side entrance and store they away from the front garden so no one else can fill them. -
Brown bin collection - Council starting to charge?
herne hilly replied to slarti b's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Unbelievable, going on what someone said previously, that out of 25000 households , only 5000 have subscribed, they are now going to put 20 odd thousand hangers on bins in case we missed the news. Hope they are compostable and not made of plastic. What a waste of resources. They should take the bins and anyone who missed out will have to call/look it up online and figure it out. -

Also, more individuals driving to the dump. Trinidad - I have not paid for a sticker. Im going to see how i get on without the bin. -
That is sad and sure this won't be the last of the what we see as the homogenisation of London. Speaking from experience, immigrants of the 50s,60s,70s would open a business once they saved enough money be it Greeks-hair dressers/cafes/chip shops or Italians-restaurants/deli/coffee shop, Indians-news agents/corner shops or Pakistani's/bengali-curry houses, Chinese-take aways and this gave london its diverse culture. Now those people are at an age to retire, they will disappear. Now its so expensive to start a business, the only people that can manage it are large companies or a very brave person willing to take the plunge. Just look at the vitriol the olde sweet shop has had because its a franchise and the shop front its not to everyones taste. Im sure the pizza would not be ghastly with its artisan sourdough sprinkled with Himalayan black salt and pepper from deepest darkest depths of Peru ;-)

New Sweet Shop on Lordship Lane

i appreciate that this guy has made the jump to start a busy on a high street in this current climate. Just think how many sweets he has to sell to make up the rent/rates/staff and pay himself. The front might not be to everyones taste but its much nice than having a boarded up empty shop. Dulwich fox - can you be 100% sure your scales are accurate, have you popped back into the store to ask if they can recalibrate their scales -

if you have brown bags, i would say fill them up, they are not giving any more free ones out. Are the bags we have to pay for going to be the same, i have a feeling they may be not as big as the paper ones -

I was also wondering when they will collect the brown bins. Do u think they will put tags on the bin saying do not refill, to be collected within 7 days or something. -
Yes i ordered both the small caddy and the bigger lockable one for outside. From memory, i had to order each one separately as it wouldn't let me tick both, but i maybe i missed something on the online form Sally Eva Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > But the food caddy collection is stll free, yes?

I think we will all have to wait and see how this works as we all garden in different ways. Im more of a blitz garden so do loads on a weekend and then nothing - in this case I could fill the bin and buy the bags and book a collection to get rid of it. OR I pile it up and get rid of one bin load each week. OR I don't subscribe and take it to the dump myself. Or i change the way i garden and do just a bin load a week. Im still debating !

I can also highly recommend Pavel of AndMove. Got a quote via email, responded quickly. Great communication, Right on time, had some tricky items to move;all moved with care and precision. Very polite, professional and reasonable price. Will use them again in future

i don't go there myself but it sounds like they may have inadequate ventilation/ducting system, and the smell is just a mix of everything they bake remaining inside and becoming a rancid/stale odour.

tomskip Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ?30.00 p/a. ?1.15 every two weeks to have a brown > wheelie bin full of garden waste taken away. > Doesn't seem bad value to me. Lambeth have been charging for some years, I think it also started at ?30 and is now up to over ?60. For me, its not that the charge is to much, its just something i feel should be covered by the council tax especially as its increased. I understand people in flats don't have gardens and those with gardens should pay, but i never had children so should I get a discount for never using local schools. We all pay our council tax for the running of our borough and keeping it clean and tidy should be done to them. -

I think there are a few things to note here: 1. Southwark council tax did increase quite a bit this year, between bands A-H it was anything from ?40 - ?115 increase. So to be asked to stump up an additional ?25 makes it hard to swallow. 2. I only have front garden beds but I am over shadowed by numerous london plane trees on the pavement and come autumn, i used to fill up a few brown bins just in leaves, that fall into my garden. So I don't need the bins for my own use, i'm not prepared to pay for a bin to dispose of council leaves. is it legal to sweep them back into the pavement ;-) ? 3. The fact thats its one bin only is quite annoying if you do a lot of pruning, one bin can fill fast, so you'll have to wait to fill one bin each week. 4. There is the option of taking it to the old kent road dump - which is probably the option I will take, as it remains free .....for now ! On the council website, it says they will be collecting the brown bins a few weeks after June. -
Im not big perfume fan and never been to Roullier White, but have seen their website and it does seem pricy. I don't know why you are all coming down on Louisa, not everyone can afford such lavish perfumes. Sometimes you may be looking for a ?20 fragrance to give as a gift and Superdrug would be just the place to go for this sort of thing. Is it the fact that Superdrug is just not gentrified enough for ED that is bothering you all so much ?

My mum got a ?20 voucher to spend in her golden ticket which she was very happy with, spent it all plus a bit extra on some lovely treats. Sure it will get most of its trade from station traffic. -

tarafitness Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I feel so sorry for the people who have just > bought the property next door! > Why would you feel sorry for the people who just bought the house next door. The derelict house was there and visible, they had a choice not to buy the house and if they are on a tight budget they could have looked for something smaller, or something in an area where you get more for your money - tulse hill/forest hill. -
Stranded car at entrance to Crawthew Grove

i started reading this and thought the same as someone previously, how lovely everyone was being, but then everyone went straight to pre judging the poor driver. I hope she is ok, as it must have been quite frightening. From my own driving around south london, is that people have NO patience what so ever and some drivers will be beeping like crazy which can panic/fluster people. Things like turning out of side roads, or allowing on coming cars down a narrow road. Personally , i take no notice of these impatient drivers and only go when i think its safe, its always just a few seconds, but everyone is in such a hurry because there is so much traffic ! -
Just FYI - the 2 Barclays in Peckham will both move and merge into 1 branch, if i remember rightly somewhere around 149 rye lane
