  1. Or any bus to Camberwell, get off by Nando's and cut through to Coldharbour Lane and pick up several buses that go to Clapham
  2. > Personally I?d rather my TAXES were spent on > stopping the TESCO METRO on East Dulwich Road from > erecting a most DISGUSTING timber fence for BINS > and waste etc topped off by concentration camp > style rotating spiked anti climb bars. Maybe if we hadn't used our taxes to invade Iraq or bail out the banks or pay for MPs expenses we could have afforded to do both! Hindsight......
  3. how strange - I requested a bulky collection last Monday (online), I received a confirmation call on Tuesday or Wednesday confirming it would be today - arrived home tonight to find stuff had gone - so no problems here!

  5. I turned her away this afternoon as she caught me at a bad time - but afterwards I felt a bit guilty Perhaps someone could suggest that she registers on EDF and promotes her book that way - might get a better reaction...?

Also I saw Yvonne Atkins walk past Caffe Nero the other week! Sorry - I know this is off-topic

If there's going to be a supermarket there Somerfield might as well pick up the trade rather than lose it competition - same reason most central London streets have a bout 10 branches of Starbucks on them - in fact Starbucks are believed to factor an acceptable level of cannibalisation into their business plans when considering new branches
  9. Firstly - cards on the table I think that both crossings are a great idea, though I have no particular views about the cycle segregation behind EDT So with my colours nailed to the mast - the above posts have made me smile and then grimace, so aimed at no specific posters: 1. If you support the proposals - fill in and return the form 2. If you don't support the proposals - fill in and return the form 3. Hopefully crossings are installed because they benefit the community more than they disrupt it - so just because 'you' can walk the hundred yards or so to the nearest crossing, don't assume others can too - elderly and infirm people may for example appreciate a crossing opposite the busiest supermarket on LL 4. The options on the form set out various proposals that hopefully address the concerns about the crossing being on a bend and therefore in a blind spot - extended payments for example 5. The issue of lost parking is also addressed by the options - a choice of lose a few or lose a lot - is parking really such a big deal? If so perhaps we should remove all the crossings to create valuable parking spaces....? 6. Do we really need someone to die or be injured before we can determine whether this is a 'good thing'? Sorry for the rant Mike :-$
  10. Lordship Lane is definitely not on the list of stores to be sold - the full list is on the OFT website
  11. there was water gushing down Nutfield Road onto Northcross all day yesterday
  12. Has anyone else been into the temporary 'skip sisters' shop on Northcross (old Jeannie Avent shop) - really coll quirky stuff made out of rubbish! I bought some great cufflinks made out of Indian postage stamps in resin and hook made out of an old fork Had a good natter with two of the 'sisters too
  13. Black Cherry does the best latte on the lane and surprisingly the tarted up greasy spoon near Franklins is pretty good
  14. Heresy! Bacon sarnies should only ever be made with white Mother's Pride
  15. the origin of poppy wearing (according to wikipedia): The poppy's significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae's poem In Flanders Fields. The poppy emblem was chosen because of the poppies that bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their red colour an appropriate symbol for the bloodshed of trench warfare. A Frenchwoman, Anna E. Gu?rin, introduced the widely used artificial poppies given out today. Some people choose to wear white poppies, which emphasises a desire for peaceful alternatives to military action. 16. The Mind shop takes small electricals but the Hospice shop does not - swings and roundabouts I guess? I tend to alternate my donations between the two
  17. fair enough!
  18. sorry - just realised that i just replied to a really really old part of the thread! seems i didn't realise that when threads get lounged all the posts show as 'new'
  19. Cassius Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Not sure how welcoming the Vauxhall Tavern would > be if my partner and I popped in there for a quick > drink! I've been doing the email version of biting my tongue until I saw this email Cassius, I would be delighted to meet you at the Vauxhall Tavern any Saturday night - there may be some men in there who are drinking, watching the cabaret, dancing and possibly kissing - and that's about it Provided you pay the fiver on the door you would be made very welcome And in case you're worried, if you need to go to the loo there will be other guys in there peeing and then washing their hands - I appreciate that the latter of these two activities is rarely seen in the gents in a 'normal' pub - so don't be too alarmed
  20. not if it's the old sports shop no
  21. It's only the 'loop' service - trains will still run Victoria to Denmark Hill (then onto Kent) and London Bridge to Denmark Hill (new service as stated in the article); so being purely selfish people from ED who board at Denmark Hill will not be affected I was amused to see ED described as '...some of London's most deprived communities.'!
  22. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Mike - you should become pub-reviewer-in-chief.. > you seem to be pretty bang-on with recent posts why thank you! wish i could make it on Saturday but will be on my way to the west country for a weeding
