I agree, my son started to commute from Year 7, only a short direct train journey but it has stressed him out at times. He's fine on the normal days, but there are so many cancellations, timetabling changes and delays to contend with. Yes it's part of life, they do adapt etc, but it's no fun waiting on the platform for 30 mins on a freezing winter's night when Southern have cancelled his train home.
  2. I saw all three young ones yesterday, although one seems to have split off and was hanging out away from the family group. Whilst there, I was watching the Canada Geese goslings picking at the grassy area across the path, when a smallish off lead dog rushed towards them and made a grab. Luckily they all made it back through the railings unscathed, but it was a close call for one of them. Owner was very unconcerned and just strode past!
  3. I haven't used him personally, but recommended by my professional peers. www.drpaulbain.co.uk
  4. So sad to hear this. I wondered where the other parent was today, when I walked past. Really hope that it recovers and will be brought back to the lake. The goslings often creep through the railings to feed at the grassy area, and so many times I've worried about off leash dogs coming along and making a grab for them. I think it's miraculous that the three of them have survived as long as they have.

Selfish beyond belief to pull over knowing full well they're blocking the route for other cars, plus it's a busy bus route.
  6. Traffic and a whole row of buses were backed up as far as Dog Kennel Hill when I came home this eve. Let people queue all night for fuel if they wish, but selfishly blocking the road for all other users just pisses me off.
  7. Deptford Green is a realistic one to consider. Friend's son just left with 9 x 9s at GCSE, and her two youngest are also very happy there.
  8. Two adults and three cygnets were around at the start of August, although I haven't been over there recently. There's a Facebook page called Brockwell Tranquility, usually lots of photos and updates there re the swans and other wildlife.
  9. Biff in Dulwich Village.
  10. The Brougham on East Dulwich Road, although their tv isn't the biggest ...
  11. I wasn't aware of your business, will definitely walk down and give you a try this weekend.
  12. Son's dentist at The Gardens referred him to Kings - significant overbite and overcrowding too. Fantastic treatment there and now all sorted. He did have to wait until he was 12 though, and for all baby teeth to have come out.
  13. I'm just near Goose Green, in that newish looking development on East Dulwich Road. Really surprised though, to see such a bird in my fairly urban back garden.
  14. I don't have a pond, but one of my favourite childhood memories is of collecting frog spawn from a nearby tarn in Cumbria, loved watching the transition from eggs to tadpoles then frogs. On another note, we had a sparrow hawk in our garden yesterday, feasting on a feral pigeon! Never seen that before, although they must be pretty common. I often see scattered pigeon feathers in various spots, so plenty of food for them. Does anyone know where they might be nesting?
  15. There is a lovely hygienist at the Aesthetic Dental Zone by Goose Green roundabout. She charges ?65, and is very thorough and patient.
  16. Hi Sally Eva Are young people able to use the Cycle Buddies scheme? I have a 15 year old who would like to try cycling to school, but lacks a bit of confidence.
  17. I think it's quite tricky for the average person to understand the statistics beneath the headlines. We've seen recent reports to say that cases in the UK are stable/levelling off, but yesterday I noted a headline claiming the opposite. Birmingham is on the verve of lockdown if you are to believe some reports ... So I totally understand it when people are still feeling anxious about going out and about if social distancing isn't happening. I think on a positive note, the COVID Symptom study app only estimates 73 active cases in Southwark today, so the risk seems pretty low, but still not a time for complacency in my opinion.
  18. Indoor socialising does still carry some risks, even with social distancing. I agree with foxy, we each make a choice around whether or not to eat out during these times. I wouldn't stay inside any venue though, if it felt too unsafe/overcrowded. Not much fun sitting there over a meal and worrying about contracting the virus. Would rather forgo the ?10 off and dine out on a quieter night.
  19. I can't quite believe that there is even a debate on this issue. Wearing a mask should be become second nature in my opinion, whilst we try to get to grips with suppressing this virus. Picking up a mask on our way out, should be as automatic as gathering our keys/phone etc. I accept there is a small minority who can't, and I wouldn't want those people to feel shamed and anxious when out and about. I travelled on the tube today for the first time since March, every single person was wearing a mask, yet in local shops and on buses, way too many people aren't bothering at all.
  20. I agree with heart block, surely the physic garden could've been relocated within the health centre grounds, there's a vast space there, and way too much concrete/car parking space at present.
  21. My son takes the train from ED - Tulse Hill. It's a 6 minute journey and as Soylent Green noted, the rear exit from the station makes for an easy journey into school, without busy roads to cross.
  22. I've stuck with Melbourne Grove over the years, but fortunately I haven't needed too much assistance from them. However Dr Love, Senior Nurse Veronica and Dr Etok have all been excellent. Although the latter may have left?
  23. A similarly daft one - 'Well if I get it, I get it. It was obviously meant to be.' Said by one of my neighbours whilst having a 'socially distanced' bbq in our communal garden a few weeks back.
  24. I called the Royal Mail customer service number last week and reported the current issues delivering to SE22. I've had a couple of weeks with no delivery at all, and it has taken up to 2 weeks for a regular letter to arrive. Issues beyond their control with sickness/absence plus huge demand as people are shopping online so much more. But the woman I spoke to was really helpful and said she would make sure the manager at Peckham Rye sorting office was aware of my query. Possibly coincidence, but a bundle of mail turned up the next day, including a couple of items that had been posted before Easter.
  25. Ten adults and children had a bbq over the fence from me last night. Overheard one person saying, 'I'm not bothered, if I get it, I get it. It's meant to be.' Speechless!
