Advice on fostering (into adopting)?
iaietta replied to iaietta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you so much, and thank to all those who contacted me privately. Really helpful. Yes, I am aware of the difficulties but am really determined to start this as soon as possible. Any further advice much appreciated -
Hello, I am a single mum of a 4 and 1/2 yo boy. I have always wanted to have more children and am now seriously thinking about fostering into adopting. I spoke both to the council and to a private agency. Both seem happy to consider me when my divorce arrangements have been finalised and if these comply with their requirements. The only concern may be the fact that I run a business, although there could be ways to juggle with a job. I was wondering if anyone has had relevant experiences and could give me thoughts? Many thanks

Hello all, Could you kindly help me spread this post on FaceBook or any other local forums? I was at Goose Green playground today and found a set of keys on a bench. It was around 4pm. I could not reach a police station by foot and they told me on the phone that no one was available to collect in the area. They are now with me, the police has my address and phone number in case anyone claims them. Please spread as much as you can!

I second lightweight. The screen printing and spin painting parties by COTR are a real hit. It is amazing how much excitement they can create, just try and you'll see!

Hello, Would anyone be able to recommend a good family solicitor that doesn't cost the Earth? Many thanks

Agree with the above. Lou is absolutely lovely and his spin painting and t-shirt printing so exciting for children! Ours had a fab time for their parties. You can see some examples here: http://www.capturedontherye.com Cannot recommend enough :-)

Any body know a good piano teacher for a 13 year old.
iaietta replied to mpd's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hello, You should definitively try SE22 Piano: http://www.se22piano.co.uk They are very popular, probably the most popular in the area. I know Lorraine, she is real passionate about her teaching and music events. You may have noticed the Dulwich Music Festival and the many recitals she organises in the area. Worth giving a look at her FBook page, as well: https://www.facebook.com/SE22PianoSchool Hope this helps -
buggy advice - I need a narrow one that's easy to fold

Try MacLaren VOLO. It's ultra-light and has a strap to carry it like a shoulder bag. Happy to show you mine! -
Hi Nancy, Thank you for all the information. As I was mentioning above, I thought of this initiative because I am unable to join these groups (I work full-time) and would prefer to create a more natural situation, instead of entering a class. I believe that children have to play together to develop interest in the language. I would be very happy if you joined us - a good way for you to boost your French, as well! I'll PM my email address so you can get in touch with me and the others. We should meet this Wednesday pm/evening if you are free. Hopefully speak soon Ari

Hi Valerie, Thank you for your message. It didn't work on the first play date but that was expected and the very reason why I thought to launch this initiative. Children use the vocabulary they have. If their children's world is in English (because they attend an English speaking nursery or school) they won't be able to express it in another language. I would like Patrick to have that vocabulary in French, too. Funny, he also prefers cartoons and nursery rhymes in French. So, fancy joining us some time? Ari

Thank you very much for your tips. I was actually thinking of something a bit more informal and more local. The trouble with Cadet Rousselle is that it can get quite expensive and unfortunately I cannot make their class times :-( The idea was organising some local meet ups, such as going together to the playground, to the pub or perhaps playing football/riding scooters, bikes, etc. In a word, something "natural" that would keep the children interested in communicating in French in their children's world. They seem to decide that it is not worth keeping it up when they cannot use it for everyday activities! As for the languages, I've just kept speaking all of them in a set routine, so he knows what we are speaking when. Seems a bit crazy, I know, but it actually worked well so far. It will at least come handy for the future (if he decides to keep talking to me...)

Hello, I speak 6 languages and would like my toddler to keep his " multi-linguism" alive. He currently speaks four, among which French. I was wondering if there are any French families in the area interested in forming a little community to socialise and organise little trips, activities, and anything else interesting for children. Please get in touch :-)
