Living in South Norwood...what is it like ?
Privatebanking replied to JulieW's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I second what verds has said. There are a grid of roads near the Norwood Lakes called the Norhyrst estate that are very nice, well proportioned and good value for your buck. Looking at a map, anywhere from Warminster and Lancaster going back towards Auckland and Hamlet is the area you want to focus on. Almost all of the roads off of here have good stock. The lakes is a lovely park not to mention Crystal Palace park which is also very nearby. Good transport links too. My brother bought a house on Court Rd 3yrs ago and has been able to refurbish and make the place look amazing. His daughter would have gone to Cypress Hill school which is good but was a bit too far for the rest of the family to help with school runs. For a nicer high street experience, head to Crystal Palace or Beckenham. -
Clearblue fertility monitor
Privatebanking replied to ladyruskin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, Agree with Strawbs, grab one second hand or through Amazon online along with the necessary sticks. It does well to find your fertile window and interesting to get to know your 'true' cycle. I used the monitor briefly, now pregnant with my first. The monitor can be expensive but always worth it if it works. The ClearBlue website has lots of info along with instruction leaflets to download and frequently asked questions. Good luck! -
Christenings on a budget. Did you have one?
Privatebanking replied to Bishberro's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Culture I believe is a factor to consider. The size of a Christening could easily amount to a high spend and in some cultures, a christening is as big and important as a wedding where many friends and relatives are invited. Outside catering for 80+ people, plus drinks, venue hire and decoration, nice outfits for church, etc easily add up. I plan to hold a christening next year with approx 40 guests. Once caterers are arranged to provide the buffet, the price will soar. -
Has anyone tried temping? Taking your temperature each morning allows you to pin-point ovulation. I used this method along with ovulation predictor sticks and got pregnant within 2 months. www.fertilityfriend.com helped me track my temperature so that I could learn my body's pattern. This is only a solution if 'catching the egg' is the problem but certainly a good way to know your body's rhythm. Good luck to all. x

I think it's difficult to form much of an opinion without further information and facts around this story. Interesting indeed. She certainly doesn't look under-nourished, nothing has been mentioned of physical abuse and she hasn't been reported missing. The questions remain around who she is, where she came from and why no one seems to be looking for her...

Flu and whooping cough jab - pregnant
Privatebanking replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes ditto on the above. Some workplaces do it but defintely try a high street Boots/Superdrug. In the past I've had it at both. I am also pregnant and was advised to get the flu jab done in the month of October. Thanks for the reminder! -
Hypnobirthing - has anyone tried this?
Privatebanking replied to kayla81's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Kayla, I am due late December and due to start a course this Sunday so can't offer any feedback yet. I'm sure someone will be along soon but you may also find searching 'hypnobirthing' to look at some of the past threads on this subject. I was able to find a well reviewed course with London Hypnobirthing run at Guys. It suited my schedule having weekend courses and the price was v reasonable. Had it not been for the schedule I would certainly have booked with Hollie who is well regarded on here. -

Hi, I'm still OK for Saturday 28th. 6th Oct I start my hypnobirthing course. A further meet up maybe late Nov would be good once people have started their prenatal and other classes to share tips, pointers and concerns. @CocoC - have you managed to keep a tally of who can do which dates in case you definitely can't do 28th? It will be cutting it fine timewise to prepare for dinner. -

@Tara I got up early Sunday and went to the Peekaboo sale event. A huge turnout - car park was full, my toes were trodden on several times! I didn't get much as I have most things already but some of the sellers had some lovely items from clothes to moses baskets, baby monitors, books and some snazzy pushchairs at half price or less. There were definitely bargains to be had. My favourite purchase was a boxed and unopened 200ml bottle of Bio Oil for ?5 as mine had just run out :) Not knowing whether I'm having a boy or girl makes shopping a little tricky as the selection of non pink/blue items is limited. -

Hi All, Saturday 28th September would be better for me. I start my hypnobirthing course on 6th October. Oh well I guess I can aim for a future one. There'll always be someone who can't make it. x
