ADT - Cold Calling - Has anyone else had this?
Cedges replied to Rednaic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I saw an ADT salesperson on Blackwater Street on Monday eve but he wasn't terribly young, was on his own and didn't raise any suspicions - saying that it wasn't me he was calling on so there no saying what card or number he would have left. I say this tho as there may be a possibility of genuine sales reps in the area being followed by those less honest. Just a thought. -
No! Epicly bad idea! No one wants to ferry milk and meat etc from their bedroom to a kitchen - plus mini fridges are pants and noisy! You have the top half, they have the bottom of the kitchen fridge...easy. If your fridge is so small thats going to be an issue and you can't accommodate a bigger one, you need to re-evaluate if you have room for a lodger. A ldoger needs to either be welcome in the living areas or have sufficient room in the bedroom or a small additional room to 'live in' and be comforatble to bring a friend round for the evening to watch a film etc. (with consideration for the landlord and at a reasonable hour etc). With the exception of maybe a monday to friday business rental, the lodger is going to want to be comfortable 'living there', not just camping in someones spare room. A lodger needs to be made to feel like the place they are living is their home albeit with a clear idea of what room are or are not open for their use. Personally as a lodger I would like the basics to be provided - bed, wardrobe, bedside table, some storage - some drawers maybe and/or some knd of dressing table. Shelves and hooks are also an advantage. I would look for lodging that was not too restrictive on me being able to make the room my own (again taking into account general considerations and ensuring that when left the room was in the same state found). As long as you are clear in your advert re what you expect of a lodger and honest when meeting them, you should find the right person for your flat. Good luck!

I had a waffle (microwaved in front of me) and 1 scoop of choc gelato for ?3.20 the other week served on a paper plate with plastic fork - not ice cream friendly on a hot day! It was OK. Totally non-descript and I wish I hadn't bothered tbh. I'd have paid no more than 75p for what I got given a choice.

In fairness, my flat nr Queens Rd Peckham station was also featured in the article :-) -

I think this (unintentionally?) sums it up. The cars that are generally the issue are the ones that take no notice of current 30mph speed limits. The ones that do are generally sensible drivers who will adhere to a speed that is suitable and safe for the particular stretch of road they are driving, whether that be 20, 25 or 30mph. Reducing the legal limit will do nothing to affect that minority of drivers who already disregard the speed limits and the safety of other road users as a result.

New 'banksy' style mural, Blackwater street
Cedges replied to Cedges's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh no, this is new, not the Stik mural 2 'panels' down. I'll try and get a pic at somepoint but when I say 'Banksy' style, I don't mean generic street art, I specifically mean a stenciled, monochrome mural. Thanks anyway balanceforrlife C -
Does anyone know who is responsible for the new Hitchcock stencil style mural down the side of Mrs Robinson? I'm assuming Banksy didn't pop by!

If you search Back2Netball on this forum, there is quite a lot of info posted about that scheme too :-)

Dulwich library have quite a good selection of audio books which come on a pre recorded player with headphones so you wouldn't need any additional player etc. I suspect the other local libraries stock these too but I couldn't comment on the selection. Hope this helps.

I had a free lesson this morning after seeing a link on another thread on this forum - lovely lass, one on one session, totally tailored to what I needed to learn with my experience levels etc and I could have had another if I needed. They go from total beginner to someone like me who is perfectly capable but hasn't really cycled much since I was a kid and therefore a bit unconfident on busy roads etc. Only bad news is Southwark have cut their contract with this provider who do the one on one lessons and sessions will be group in future and not therefore easily tailorable. She thinks she will still be able to book sessions for the next couple of months however especially for complete beginners. The link to book lessons is here and I would highly recommend: https://admin.cyclinginstructor.com/clients/cyclinginstructor/inforequest1.nsf/webpage?openform http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200123/cycling/446/cycle_training/1

But of course, I am one of those ghastly northerners so its to be expected! ;-) -

I was in Helsinki earlier this year and we went to a nice outdoor bar in a square where the bouncers brought us over massive blankets because it was a bit nippy - we thought it was a really cool idea. I don't really have an opinion on patio heaters but it may be a nice alternative. -

There was at least 1 test run last weekend - I saw an overground train go past Queens Rd Peckham then too.

I cannot stress how good an idea it is to buy a satnav. A good one with lane guidance and the cleverness to avoid traffic hotspots and jams. I've got everywhere twice a quick since getting on.

local freedom to express yourself

Firstly yes you are right, the OP was specifically referring to the festival but 'know your audience' as a philosophy would probably stand the OP in good stead. I am sure the organisers know what vibe/atmosphere they are looking to create and I would assume that the OP does not fit into that vision. So why be a hater - this isn't going to change, goose green is goose green, not notting hill et al. Secondly, pablogrande and the OP, if you don't like it, why not try to organise something yourself to your tastes? You can't please everyone all of the time, but it doesn't mean that there can only be one event to the exclusion of everyone else. Variety is the spice of life after all. Personally I love a bit of good ol' Country and Western but I won't be holding my breath for much in the way of that sort of festivities round here and I'm far too lazy to try to organise something myself! -

Common sense policing like this is why I live here. If people want to hear your music then surely you can set up some local gigs - that way the people who want to hear your music can, and those who don't, don't have to. Thats not opression, thats common decency and exercising consideration for other people. There are plenty of artists around here if you are interested in that sort of thing.
