Speedo Pizza moved - what's happening to empty shop
Cedges replied to Bo Peep's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh no, this has ruined my week - the end of an era, I've fallen into that shop and ordered all manner of things in the middle of the night for a good few years now. This settles it, there is nothing to keep me in London anymore. However...do we think this may be the secret location of the new cocktail bar being discussed on another thread? -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Aw, shucks! I am actually quite happy with what I get for what I pay but that's still galling for a cheapskate like me! I do generally use the gym in Peckham. It's smaller but seems to have more machines than dulwich which seems to have a lot more weight and resistance equipment and I've never had a problem getting on the equipment. The one time I used dulwich gym, it was heaving and I spent a lot of time waiting for treadmills etc. The aqua aerobics instructor is better at dulwich but Peckham runs twice as many sessions there per week and Peckham is open a couple of hours later than dulwich on weekends. Still, it's handy to have options locally 😊 worldwiser Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > They were offering the 34 rate to all comers last > week. Police/Bailiffs in La Avril boutique this evening
Cedges replied to Bony Fido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know several people that have zero hour contracts willingly as it allows them to pick up casual shifts at various workplaces without having the hassle of having to submit personal tax returns as their work goes through the books and PAYE. Whilst not the case for everyone, the benefits of zero hour contract for SOME is hardly propaganda. -
I have heard of some people having problems on Macs - are your laptops macs?

Cle wrote > I think Cedges is just pointing out that the beans > were used purely for example, and the prices made > up. I wouldn't leap on the use of the word > 'obviously'. Yes that, thanks! It was mostly a pre-emptive strike on how much do you think beans are, they're way more expensive/cheaper than that type comments!
-
There never really seems to me that there is any real difference in price between the large stores and metro versions, but the little shops offer far less in the way of the value ranges and even own brand products so can seem dearer, i.e you spend 12p on a tin of value beans usually but you spend 80p on Heinz in the metro cos that's all they have. Heinz is still 80p in the large store so not technically dearer but you do still spend 68p more. I've not been in a mini Morries yet but this is certainly true of Tesco metros. (I obviously have no idea how much beans are fyi, just an example!) Out of all the supermarkets, Morries is easily my top choice.

Sunday Assembly for South London?
Cedges replied to Trevor Moore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wasn't trying to get into some great theological argument about free speech, I just really meant that church, mosque or any other interest group wouldn't be something I would need to comment on if I had no intention of attending or being involved, if you aren't interested in coming then why bother commenting in a negative way? That just seems unnecessary to me. -
Sunday Assembly for South London?
Cedges replied to Trevor Moore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm not an organiser, I just find your comments unnecessary, if you don't want to be involved, don't be involved. Personally I love the community round here, it's just another interest group that's all, like the pub, curry club or wi. Please live and let live. If your comments had been directed at a new mosque, temple or church then they would not be acceptable, I don't see why they should therefore be accepted in relation to an atheist gathering. It's a first meeting, there might only be 15 people attend in which case parking concerns are a little irrelevant at this stage, I'm sure should a football spectator size crowd start to attend, any such location issues would be addressed. -
Sunday Assembly for South London?
Cedges replied to Trevor Moore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Chick Pea. This is an assembly for South London. When the organisers thought of Crystal Palace, I doubt they stopped to think...hang on a sec, how specifically are Dulwichians going to get here? If you don't want to go, don't go. I'd suggest the main London Assemblies now at Conway Hall nr Holborn might be easier to get to but your last comment appears a bit offensive about the whole thing so perhaps you should be an atheist at home rather than joining in a group assuming to bring likeminded people together and create new community spirit -
I love to shop local when I can but for clothes I have to shop online or in large generic stores for plus size clothes - unfortunately not all of us have the luxury of popping to ED, Fenton Walsh, Mrs Robinsons and def not Give and Take for day to day clothing.

Old Moo Too, Sew East Dulwich Shop 45 Lordship Lane

I was led to believe that the shop near the mag was more of a curtains/upholstery kind of material shop rather than one catering to all inc quilters, crosstichers, embroiderers and dressmakers....is this not the case then? -
Old Moo Too, Sew East Dulwich Shop 45 Lordship Lane
Cedges replied to IanSE22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is actually a real need for a haberdasher in this area, the problem was that Sew East Dulwich was so expensive, it was a luxury and it was still worth trekking to Lewisham or Brixton for reasonable priced fabrics and threads etc. -

Cedges replied to IanSE22's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sew East Dulwich sold sewing stuff in East Dulwich. I'm not sure what was confusing about that. The shop with all the lampshades pretty much sold lampshades and to avoid any future confusion, the one with all the fruit and veg outside is a greengrocers and the one with meat in the window is a butchers. -
Sunday Assembly for South London?
Cedges replied to Trevor Moore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh erm, well. Yeh, about that. I couldn't get my butt out of bed in time. I hate myself, I didn't go :-( It turns out that it isn't only the religious content that keeps me from attending church on a Sunday morning, its also the Sunday morning part. However, if I had only had to trek to Crystal Palace and not Bethnel Green...who knowns, I may well have made it. I do however have every intention of attending the next event at Conway Hall near Holborn which will be easier to get to. They are going to be holding meetings fortnightly from now on...the notice on facebook reads: Some things that were mentioned yesterday in our notices: 1) We are aiming to be fortnightly in London 2) We are moving to Conway Hall. We will be there from September 15th. 3) Smoups (Small Groups) are starting from October. If you would like to join a peer-to-peer support/social group, email [email protected] 4) Age of Reason, the Sunday Assembly Philosophy club starts up again on the... 18th of September at the Camden Head in Angel. The speaker is Dr. Andy Denis, an expert in the history of economic philosophy. 7pm. 5) If you would like to join the choir, meeting every Wednesday, either to perform or just for a good old sing, email Emma on [email protected] -
Sunday Assembly for South London?
Cedges replied to Trevor Moore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sunday Assembly was started by comedians and I don't get the impression that is is going to be dry sermons and godless hymns - I am going to make my first trip on Sunday to York Hall for their monthly event. If its not your thing, its not your thing but personally I quite welcome the community that churches and religious gatherings create but as I don't have any belief in God whatsoever, I feel excluded from such events. An opportunity to meet with other likeminded atheists is a real welcome opportunity and I am really looking forward to the event. https://www.facebook.com/events/498638493554720/ Assuming the event lives up to my expectations, I'd welcome a more south London centric gathering :-) Incidentally, if anyone does fancy joining in on Sunday, I'm a bit nervous (not sure that's quite the right word?) about going on my own so I'd happily meet up with anyone in ED that fancied going together/as a group... Just inbox me :-) -

Just stuck my head out and road looks to be open with 2 coppers walking along slowly. 2 police cars just drove up and onto north cross. How exciting for my first day week on the road.

East Dulwich Resident - your stuff is dumped in my street
Cedges replied to char1i3's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Is it not a possibility that the new tenants have dumped Laura's stuff and that she is not in fact the guilty party? Admittedly why she would have left stuff in a flat she was leaving is also debatable but she may not be a fly tipper at least. -
