  1. I would certainly join an art club!
  2. Yes I agree that DMC on Chadwick Road is pretty awful. Like a curate's egg they are good in parts (small parts)- the reception staff are either grudging or patronising.

  4. I am in a parking zone in Camberwell. Yes the residents can park easier now BUT there are lots of downsides. I'd say partial timings is the only way to go (everywhere in the UK).
  5. Yes please that would be great. SpringTime Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think I know someone near you who'd be happy to > help. If the person is willing I'll PM you contact > details.
  6. I rang them but no joy - maybe I'll try again. 7. Not sure where I can post this - "Wanted ? a friendly volunteer walking companion" My husband (72) would appreciate someone to pop round mid afternoon (usually any day of the week) to accompany Nick (and his cute little Dachshund Diggory) for a very slow walk round the block, or to a local caf? (free tea and a bun of course) or the local park. Would suit an active pensioner or someone looking to enhance their CV or a young person doing their Youth Award (or similar). Must be a friendly reliable volunteer who is not in a hurry (each walk could be around one hour). Around the Bushey Hill Road area (SE5 8QF)
  8. People often knock on doors around the Lyndhurst area (near Peckham Rye station ). They come with identity cards and start asking for money for various things. Difficult to know who's genuine and who's not. But calling at 8 pm or 9 pm probably isn't a good idea. Does anyone know about these callers?
  9. Thanks for info. Laptops now taken but will certainly look at Pellatt Road too. HOW DO I TAKE OFF MY DATA THOUGH?!!
  10. We have a couple of 5 yr old working laptops - do we recycle (if so, where / to whom?) or demolish? (Southwark doesn't seem to have a computer recycling unit). Advice please!
  11. Thanks to everyone plus private messages. Could the administrator please delete this thread as it seems to have personal details on here. Again thanks everyone as the incident was quite upsetting.
  12. There is a new food market taking place each Saturday morning at the Peckham Academy (entrance Lyndhurst Way near Rye Lane). Most of the stall holds are knowledgeable and friendly but just be aware of the change you are given. One stall holder gave us change for a tenner when we gave a twenty pound note. Very unpleasant experience. We pointed out the mistake twice but nothing doing. Does anyone have the contact details of the organisers?
  13. Yes I am still here! I couldn't understand it either when this thread re-appeared! However I am fantastically grateful for all these suggestions and I hope everyone else is too. Lots there to think about and choose from! We almost need a welcoming committee to East Dulwich / Peckham / Camberwell. Might be a thought to have an event once a year at the Liberal Club (near Peckham Rye station) where all these different interests can be displayed and discussed. Thanks again everyone x
  14. Someone chopped our bush with an axe just outside our garden (it grows through the fence)- we reported it to the police who said they would send someone round from the Safe Neighbourhood Scheme - it's now a week later and we have not seen anyone. We are not bothered about the bush (we made this clear on the phone to the police) but we are bothered about someone feeling able to be destructive in a public place. Low level vandalism needs to be nipped in the bud (forgive the pun) - just like the Mayor of New York said 'Zero tolerance is the way to go'. What if we were a 'vulnerable' couple relying on the police for support? What then?
  15. What's happening on rye lane? it looks bad.
  16. Great! I'll go and have a look at all these tomorrow! Wonder if there any houses I can visit? (have looked on National Trust website but zilch - shame) PS Robert Browning was born in Camberwell in 1812 but can't see where....
  17. Am starting a new project collecting info & visiting famous authors / writers in times past who lived in South East London. Cannot find any info anywhere (but learnt a lot more about Camberwell in the process)- any suggestions most welcome.
  18. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to share their ideas and experiences. Lots of food for thought. Much aoppreciated x
  19. Wonderful advice. Many thanks.
  20. Hi All - am thinking about taking in a lodger sometime in the future (no, this is not a hidden advert) but first want to find out what lodgers really want most of all (apart from a reasonable rent). What makes a room comfortable for them? And sharing a fridge? How does that work?
  21. Lishyloo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think it lOoks a bloody mess, just because a so > cold artist did it we call it art What a shame you are being negative again Lishyloo - I LOVE Stik - look at his work properly!
  22. Would love to know more about the Lyndhurst area eg : Lyndurst Way, Lyndhurst Grove, Lyndhurst Square. Who was Lyndhurst? What is the whole area about? Where does one start researching?
  23. I am a puppy owner & ALWAYS pick up doggy poo (2 sandwich bags one inside the other) - it's not that hard. Come on, dog owners!!
  24. Our car was broken into this weekend (near Lyndhurst Grove / Denham Rd) ? so if anyone picks up a brown leather man's bag / satchel we?d be most grateful. (another car was broken into in the same place last week). Both reported to the police. For your own sake, keep everything out of sight or take it all indoors!
  25. Why can't we have independent shops AND a Waitrose? What's wrong with you guys? I lived near Whitecross Street (EC1) and when a Waitrose arrived, everyone from the Peabody Estates, the posh Barbican flats, council flats and mortgaged-to-the-hilt people all poured in. It is packed every hour it is open and all the market stalls, hairdressers, newsagents, bookstalls locally benefit too. Get with the programme!
