  1. Surprised no one has mentioned Ivydale / Hawkslade road area - close to Honor Oak park rail station, much more reasonably priced than ED or Peckham and decent housing stock.

  3. Hi Sue, Yes we have a room at the back and we were sleeping there whilst the main room was renovated - to be honest we were happy to move from that room as we back onto some neighbours who seem to like playing obnoxious jazz music rather loud into the small hours! Basically we're stuck between a rock and a hard place! I think a well timed word with them is the best I can do, just will make sure its not confrontational and is reasonable. As i have said all along I totally understand I can do nothing about it and people have to make a living - its just trying to get a bit of consideration thrown into the mix which should hopefully make a difference.
  4. Thank you Jacqui and yes blah blah this is exactly the conundrum I faced, I am not stupid or narrow minded enough to deny that a person needs a vehicle for their job but essentially overnight a quiet street with easy parking right outside the house I live in has changed, how would you honestly feel once you stepped off your soap box?
  5. I am fairly certain I know the answer to this and yes I expect to receive some grief from people tell me to stop being stupid/stuck up etc... and to suck it up, but the simple fact is we have had some neighbours move into a rented property over the road and all three of them seem to be courier drivers who park their vans in front of our house which takes up a huge chunk of parking space not to mention them waking us up at 5:45 every morning slamming van doors, starting engines and setting off for the day. So should I stop being so precious about a parking space that is in theory free for anyone who wants to park there? I am sure this is a divisive topic but would appreciate some thoughts / suggestions Calsug
  6. Just wondering if it is just me that has noticed an increase in fly tipping lately? I guess it has something to do with late spring clear outs but it seems to be getting worse. Maybe the council should be more pro-active in sending out leaflets reminding people of the criminal nature of fly tipping whilst also providing information about bulk waste collection maybe offer more bulk collections during the spring / summer time? Going one step further and at risk of being told to get off my soap box also would be good if people didn?t take the ?out of sight out of mind? approach when they pay a man and a van 20 quid to take their rubbish away for them ? it?s pretty much guaranteed that the rubbish will end up a few streets down?
  7. I recently moved from Underhill Rd and was up by Overhill road so pretty far up, to be honest its not really a long walk down to Lordship lane and i quite liked being that far up as a lot quieter.
  8. If you have a mortgage then yes you must, if you don't then its purely optional but not a bad thing to have
  9. Such a shame to hear this and so short sighted, always thought the bio bin was a great tool for reducing waste to landfill and very easy to do. I will continue to do it and buy the bags but still a shame that the council will not assist in this anymore James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi DB&B, > Southwark Labour passed their budget last week > which stops providing biodegradeable food waste > bags to residents from 1 April. 10. Horrible news, they made our wedding rings for my wife and I - The customer service they offer and jewellery they design is fantastic. Strongly recommend people go and support them once they are back up and running
  11. Wondering if anyone can recommend a local shelter where I can donate some cash to help them pay for a Christmas meal or a local charity that gives gifts to kids? My wife and I have decided to give cash to a good cause instead of gifts to each other this year Thanks Calsug
  12. I'm going to stick up for Merrifields, have been using him for a few years now and his service is great and the prices he charges very reasonable. He made me a leather belt last year and cost half the price of a designer belt and has lasted exceptionally well. Maybe you caught him on a bad day and okay that doesn't justify what you perceive to be poor service but from my own personal experience I will carry on going back to him whenever I need shoes repaired and belts made!
  13. Seems to be an on going problem, despite apparently my Virgin media being "the fastest" they provide I often struggle to stream films on Netflix
  14. So where is the nearest garden centre to East Dulwich now? Need to get some house plants this weekend

  16. Just a word of warning I'm pretty sure I had my card cloned on Thursday evening whilst using one of Barclays ATMs on lordship lane. Luckily Natwest stopped someone in the Philippines withdrawing a sizeable sum of money yesterday but still it's a pain and a horrible feeling to think someone has stolen your details. Keep any eye out to see if the card slot looks different etc... I generally check so this one must have looked pretty good Calsug
  17. tabbycat - I was the person after you and at 8:15 all the appointments were booked for the day, I was even on hold trying to book an appointment whilst waiting in the surgery. Sorry but for the whole day to be booked out in 15 minutes and no booked appointments available for a month is simply unacceptable - I changed GP's this afternoon...

It isn't a property ladder as such anymore - its a ladder with missing rungs. Once you're on, it doesn't mean you can easily move up to the "next level".
  19. I have to agree with all the comments on this post - I called Southwark council after receiving the notification letter that work was to be carried out and was assured that it was be minor scrub clearance, that the treeline would be maintained etc... If you look at it now its a total mess and I'm pretty upset that the council lied about how much tree removal would take place. I don't know who is in charge of this sham of a project but it highlights the councils blatant disregard for tree preservation throughout the Borough.
  20. My flat looks directly in to what would appear the most heavily felled area, have to admit I am very upset by the false promises that there would be little disruption and it would be light clearance they have totally stripped the place - looks horrible.

I am intrigued as to why you personally though are so anti the development and if the council has actually given any constructive feedback instead of blocking approval every time M&S try - Surely they (M&S) are not dim enough to keep on trying with plans that they know you will reject.
  22. You're kidding me right? Maybe I am missing some "grander thinking" point but surely any development in this economic climate is a good thing - why are these stores seen as a threat instead of increasing footfall and pulling people away from the larger supermarkets like the Sainsburys which is "out of town"? What are you protecting the area from?? If you don't try to proactively manage the high street by having a combination of chains and independent stores then all you will be left with is Estate Agents and betting shops It is not a case of protecting but pure nimbyism rch Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > From a purely planning perspective, this was an > important result as it will give us a local > precedent to protect the area from > over-development in the future... something that > could be an issue on the police station site, for > instance. > > The Dulwich wards are designated as "suburban" in > the London Plan, giving us criteria to deploy to > protect us from knock-on effects from developments > that would be more appropriate in an urban city > centre. > > However, thinking strategically, what would help > the developers in this case would be to look at > buying up the strip of land where the car wash > (which could be relocated as a condition) is > located which could provide parking and a turning > ratio so that deliveries could be made from > Lordship Lane. 23. Yep all is well with him, saw him on my way to the station the morning as LUVED said he was on holiday ths week. Calsug
  24. Ah great thanks!
  25. Just in the off chance wondering if anyone knows Ronald? He is the old chap who always has breakfast down on the cafe on lordship lane (the one with the tea cup sign) I've been saying hello to him pretty much every day on my way to work for the last two years but haven't seen him this week so was wondering if he is okay. Thanks Calsug
