  1. Was actually going to write a post warning people of this, both my wife and I nearly slipped on Barry Road yesterday and yes that was with us walking carefully...
  2. You could Google it or maybe not reply with a silly comment considering a few posters have had their houses torn apart and are understandbly upset. toto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Apart from the burglars, no one knows where this > road is !
  3. Out of interest how did they get in?
  4. Agreed a good post nunsuch and to be honest I hadn't thought about people using travellers as an excuse to fly tip near them. Alas my experience has not been great in the past and I won't go into details but that said I can accept when what I said is wrong and I will be more cautious in my judgment in the future.

Read that it caused a pregnant lady to go prematurely into labour, luckily the baby was okay but what happens if it wasn't or a person had a heart condition? Personally don't see the funny side of randomly scaring people that you don't know or might have medical conditions. titch juicy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Am I the only one that finds the whole thing > funny? 6. Ha thanks Bob, I might use my own plumber thanks! ;) Anyone got rough ideas of getting the WC fitted, the number I have in mind is 3-4 K Also there seems to be some confusion as to who is responsible / able to move my gas meter to the other wall (a massive distance of 1 metre) SGN looked at it but said as the distance was so small my provider could do it when I had my meter changed but I had a new smart meter fitted today and my provider said that SGN would have to move it?!
  7. Unfortunately that's not possible as the previous owners knocked the rear bit down and opened up the back for bi-folds (which we really like) The only other option is to do something with the side bit where there are some doors off the dining room ( soil pipe is there so it would be easy) but then we would lose the light from them + a window in the kitchen too Huggers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > our downstairs loo is on the site of the original > outside loo- all the drains and pipes are already > there somewhere underneath. 8. We're considering getting one fitted as only have 1 upstairs bathroom at the moment and if/when we have kids think with it might be worth it!? The trouble is it's quite a small space and will require moving the gas meter and mains water pipe before work even starts Combine that with the waste pipe unfortunately being on the other side of the house so a sani flow would be needed and no window so ventilation ducting under the floor also needed The real question is that it's looking like a very expensive project for what will be a pokey toilet - anyone got any views either for or against - feel I need a sanity check on this one Thanks Calsug
  9. So What exactly are you having done? We had our bathroom done a few months ago which was pretty much totally stripped out, new tiling on walls / floor, new sink, toilet etc... and it took just over 2 weeks excluding painting.
  10. 3 months to do a bathroom?!? Have you paid in advance? Would say it's time to look for a new builder - unless you've got a really large/complicated bathroom project it should really take 2-3 weeks max IF he is working on it full time
  11. Well I'm going from 3 experiences that I've had with travellers setting up camp, on all 3 occasions they left a complete mess after they were moved on. Call me a curtain twitcher if you like but why should this been deemed acceptable behaviour? Regardless of whether they were nice or not, I have never heard of travellers moving on without leaving piles or rubbish, building materials etc... Maybe this is why people understandably don't want them living near them. If I knew that when the travellers on Peckham Rye moved away you wouldn't have known they were there I wouldn't care as much and that is the honest truth. Anyway glad to see all of those who don't mind travellers have volunteered to clear the rubble sacks in a few weeks...
  12. Are all the people who are being pro traveller and saying they are not all bad people actually seen the disgusting mess that the 3 caravans on Peckham Rye have caused? This mess isn't domestic waste which maybe at a push I could understand them making, it is building waste which they are dumping on our Park which your family won't be able to use freely until us the tax payer has paid for it to be removed I'm sorry I will show no compassion towards them until they respect the neighbourhood that they live in
  13. Anyone know the plant/ flowers which smells amazing in the section up past where the WCs are?
  14. Just read the response,a 5 year old could have replied better How many times did they want to mention "decades of underinvestment" and challenging infrastructure? Basically it's not their fault and stop moaning, think our transport secretary needs to spend a week trying to get into work using their trains - it might chsnge her tone,
  15. France won't leave - they won't be stupid enough to hold a referendum on it. Anti EU sentiment is at about 72%...

  17. The markets took another hammering today, if anyone wants a vague positive - Foxtons the forums favourite estate agent got a beating too Jokes aside all banks, estate agents and property developers, building firms etc... Were down heavily. Pound will almost certainly continue to weaken as seems EU are starting to talk tough
  18. I love the fact that people who are understandably a bit worried about their future are being branded "sore losers" and "whiners" this isn't a 5 a side football match that people are complaining about but the short to medium term health of the country they live in Let's for a moment ignore the FTSE as yes it was a bit frothy in the run up to the referendum on the back of postive outlook to remain in the EU the more worrying thing thing is that we are now being downgraded by S&P and Moody's with a negative outlook - these guys are not speculators or the "fat cat bankers" they are the gauge for the market I will whine about the result because we are now entering into an almost certain and yet totally avoidable recession due to a decent percentage of the population having delusions of grandure about the country they live in with a twist of xenophobia chucked in for good measure - I won't tar everyone with that brush but talk to Joe blogs on the street as to why he is happy for him to have "his country back" and that will be the gist of his argument trillions of dollars have been wiped off the stock market and yes the market may recover but in the time being the decision that was made last week will hurt the people who need support the most, part of those trillions are people's pensions and savings Okay the bankers may leave and this is "great news" as who needs "those greedy bastards" but what about all the shops, restaurants and services that were supported by them? I assure you companies are looking to leave London mine included and you can say good riddance to us if you like but the snowball effect of companies leaving is significant
  19. Really?! I was walking round the park the other day thinking how amazing it is especially if you think about the fact it's not exactly a "main" park of London or a tourist destination. Think we're very lucky to have such a well maintained park and personally would happily take a slightly small fountain instead of some of city parks I've seen in other countries. not2late Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've often wondered that myself. 20. Another recommendation for Matthew Hanson and his team, we had our bathroom completely refitted and the results look fantastic, the quality of the finish is exactly the high standard I was after Despite hitting a few unforeseen problems along the way (as every Victorian house tends to have) they kept us informed and worked longer days to ensure our bathroom was finished on time to minimise the disruption to us. No hesitation to use them again in the future Calsug
  21. XIX yes I see the logic in that but really both our logics are flawed, period family homes for example will rise and fall at a different percentage to a first time buyers flat. The general gist of my argument is if the timing and affordability is right for you don't wait to see if you can gain more on you current home.
  22. Agree it's tough to move away from ED we were there for 4 years but ultimately couldn't afford the SE22 postcode anymore. We moved to SE15 which is still a short(ish) walk over Peckham Rye park to East Dulwich when we want to plus honor oak park station is better connected for us.
  23. Also to add to my comment above to make sure I don't sound high and mighty, I fell for the high valuation trick from an estate agent who I won't name, ultimately I wasted 7 months, had the hassle of tidying the house every weekend and trying to keep out of my own flat for that period etc... Took it off the market for a few months and put it back on at let's say a more aggressive / realistic price and it sold for asking price within 2 weeks...
  24. Have to agree that it seems a lot of people are falling for the classic highest value estate agent trick. If you were thinking of selling then sell if you don't want to sell then don't it's as simple as that unless the cash from place you are thinking of selling won't be used to buy another property.... Your house/flat is not the only one going up and down in price. It's too easy to get tied up in the I'll wait until it's worth X but ultimately all that will happen is you may either miss buying your dream home or a currently very cheap mortgage rate.
  25. Was surprised to see Co-Op selling non-smokeless coal for fires the other day - not sure they should be allowed to do that to be honest.
