We've been given quite a few teddies by friends and family for our newborn son to the point where there are probably a few too many! Does anyone know where we can donate some to? We don't have a car so walking distance would be good Calsug

Get a montion activated sprinkler, tried all the powders and gels they didn't work but the sprinkler works wonders

Fly tipping Forest Hill Road/Dunstans Road
Calsug replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Renata I really struggle to beleive that fly tipping has not gone up after the introduction of having to pay to remove bulky waste - have you got anything official to support that? Also any idea on savings made by charging for waste removal? -
Would recommend Buggy Pitstop, we just got our bugaboo fully serviced with them and they did a great job.

James I would be genuinely interested to know how much the council has saved (or I suspect lost) by the introduction of a charge to remove bulky waste... Certainly the amount of fly tipping has increased dramatically and affects everyone particularly those in "hot spots" I wish the council was more imaginative and proactive in tackling the problem -
Will follow this thread to know what pubs to avoid - Nothing like getting a face full of some weird sweet smelling vapour... at least smokers now generally blow cigarette smoke up away from people, with 'vapers ' the bigger the more obnoxious the cloud the better it seems.

There is one in Upland road as well by the corner shop

I had the unfortunate situation today to almost witness something that could have ended really badly A child probably around 5-6 years old was cycling down the pavement with no parents in sight wobbled a steered his bike into the road where there was an oncoming car, fortunately he fell off and landed with his bike just on the side of the kerb and didn't go all the way into the road I picked up the boy and his bike and asked him where his parents were and as we were on a corner there was no one in sight, a short time later his dad comes round the corner - I tried to explain the situation but was still in a bit of shock so not sure he got the message and I guess he thought I was having a go at him as he shrugged his shoulders and said his son knew to stop on the corners.... Long and the short of it just because they know when to stop on a corner doesn't mean they are proficient enough to cycle alone and safely down the street - please please bear this in mind Calsug

Another recommendation for Russell, his work is excellent and he has helped us out with a number of tricky problems on our old roof taking time with each one to get it fixed properly where others have clearly bodged in the past. As with others experience he doesn't try to "up sell" his work and will only quote what he believes is necessary. He's busy so book in advance if you need work done Calsug

Strikes me as the kind of guy who likes the sound of his own voice quite a lot.

Can't believe what I just walked past so had to take a picture http://imgur.com/X7JeHE3 Looks like someone has just tipped an entire van load in the middle of the road! Probably the builders who worked on a site but please this highlights the need to use proper approved waste removal and not just a number of a man and a van - your waste will end up like this on someone else's Street

No downsides at all! We got ours fitted last year and it's fantastic. I know exactly how much I'm spending each month. Never have to crawl into a cupboard with a torch anymore and your monthly payment amount is much more accurate.

On hold for 15 minutes and gave up! That's once you have actually found their number which is well hidden these days on the new website.

Tried that before, the box got left by the binmen General question still remains - will bulky waste guys take them?
-
No unfortunately not otherwise for sure would have driven down. The boxes and packing pile is huge and just want it out of the front room!
-
They are awkward sized bit large boxes that had a mattress and bed frame in etc... So not suitable for moving. Might have one or two that are suitable for moving will check. They are so big though that even broken down they don't fit in a bin!
-
Just wondering about the above we have quite a few large cardboard boxes and associated packing and was wondering if I could get it removed via the bulky waste service. On the site it doesn't mention anything about boxes so wanted to be sure before I paid up! Cheers Calsug

With the recycling they empty them properly using the tipper on the truck.

Does anyone else have the problem with the bin men just picking out by hand the bagged kitchen waste and leaving anything else? Was wondering why my bin was starting to smell and it's because anything loose or that might have fallen out of a compost bag is simply left to rot in there!
-
Have to admit it's been very slippery round us, not sure I've seen a single gritters either despite the freezing Conditions, certainly the pavements haven't been done
-
The only way to solve the problem is to get the floor or your neighbours ceiling professionally soundproofed, underlay really doesn't do anything Cost to soundproof properly is at least 100 pounds per sq metre...

Childcare options -opinions and suggestions welcome!

Thanks everyone for the advice so far As for our gut feeling we're still not entirely sure! We went to an offstead outstanding nursery this morning and to be honest we weren't blown away by it which really prompted me to post this thread in the first place - we had naively assumed it would be exactly what we were after as it was well rated. We're going to visit a few more nurseries to see if we can find one that feels right and I think if we still don't like them we will go down the child minder / shared nanny route. -

Hi saffron the divisive point wasn't going back to work but what the "best" method of childcare is - Many thanks for the advice, as I said we are negotiating a very new minefield of options so just hearing other parents views is welcome! -
Am sure this could be quite divisive but... We?re expecting our first child this May and are looking at child care options, just wondering if we could have your opinions - my wife will go back to work 4 days a week when he is about 6 months old and we are not sure about either sending him to day nursery, shared nanny, child minder etc? the options of nurseries alone is quite daunting but we aren?t sure what really the best form of childcare is?! Any suggestions, opinions etc? most welcome! Many thanks Calsug

Unless it looks truly terrible I would be inclined to leave it, it will cost a lot to fix and you won't get that added expense from a buyer. Best let a buyer look at it and let them deal with it when they move in
