  2. I heard a rumour . that starbucks are throwing money at the people who run the fashion type shop next to edt. god forbid, there is more than enough bad coffee in LL already

    rip david

our dear dog-walking friend david, who collapsed and died in his beloved peckham rye park last month had his well-attended funeral at honour oak crematorium yesterday. the vicar of st johns, goose green, conducted the very nice service. there were many tears, of course, but this was a celebration of a really nice guy's life. thank you for your friendship david. god bless and rest in peace.
  5. david was thoroughly nice man. he loved dogs although did not have one of his own. he was in his seventies, cycled everywhere and always appeared to be very fit. we chatted to him every day and I was very sad to hear of his death. In fact, I may have been the last person he ever spoke to as he rode past me on his way round the pond. rip david. you were a great bloke
  6. it is not consultation. it is happening in august. there were little pointy humps on this road until they resurfaced it. now they are coming back and not before time. I walk our dogs there every day and some of the vechicles (cars and delivery vans) whizz along and are a threat to walkers, children and, of course, loads of doggies. I m not one of james barber's greatest fans, but I am giving him a big vote of thanks for his action.
  7. took dogs for walk in the parktoday and police were everywhere and had tapedoff the woody bit by the aboratum.apparently a body was found earlier today. wondered if it was missing man
  8. the renovation works on peckhm rye park have halted and most of the machinery has been removed. many of the drainage trenches remain. parkperson told me today that the trenches would be filled but that the entire area would then be left for grass to grow back naturally. initially it was all going to turfed and reseeded. now they are apparently leaving it to nature. if so, it will be a cock-up as usual.
  9. we have switched two (of course, utterly perfect) jack russells to the new vets. it is such a terrific improvement on LL vets. the two ladies are brilliant.
  10. hattie has been mp here for pushing 30 years. I have always found her very friendly and helpful
  11. djetc fyi, the junior football club alongside the east field hve always played five a side for the teenies alongside the main pitches. a couple of years ago the council merely painted a few lines for them. I am sure the club pays or the privilege. if you are a football person you must agree that five side is preferable to many other things young people get up to in the park and elsewhere. incidentally, do you really run a LADIES football (never footie) group? are the participants really all women of title? if so, they should pay double
  12. djkilla... two years ago there were two pitches on this area. the very dry summer cracked the entire surface so they took thrm out of commission for remedial work. there were always two pitches here, but this year it has been reduced to one. now the remedial work is at last under way. whatever do you mean by encroachment? this is a public park. parks have football pitches. get over yourself. there is plenty of room for us all. I walk my two little doggies every day and have never felt crowded out by young boys playing football
  13. good grief. james barber turns out to be a duplicitous tosspot. whodathoughtit!
  14. barber's problem is that he really isn't very good at politics. he is just a smalltime busybody and really is the last person who should be elected to anything. I imagine he is among the least popular councillor with his colleagues of all parties.
  15. barber never debates; he merely claims misrepresentation. he delights in obfuscation. he does, however, say one thing clearly. he says he will not abstain. I do not believe he still has an open mind on the subject, so why doesn't he admit that he's going to vote for a cpz, cos we all know he just dying to do it! he can feel free to prove me wrong
  16. barber asked why we were so concerned about the cpz as we live in scutari road. I replied that we have lived in east dulwich for 25 years (the first 15 in crystal palace road where we helped fight off a previous cpz attempt). we care about east dulwich -- all of it. we have a business in lordship lane that we have built over a decade. we also care about democracy, something that seems to be movable feast capable of many interpretations to barber and his ilk. I wish he was up for re-election in the spring.
  17. if james barber (the all-seeing eye, but blockedup ears) has identified a site for waitrose on lordship lane, could he please stop wibbling about and just tell us?
  18. we emailed barber about the cpz today and he replied to us suggesting it was none of our business as we do not live in the streets around the station. he also had to gall to say he was undecided. he then wibbled on a for a few paragraphs before intimating that he might go for a trial period, do go away james dear. your cover as a man of the people and/or principle is blown.
  19. I hate to say I told you so about james barber. but I did tell you so and now you can se this person for what he is? did someone use the term stalinist? I believe barber should very seriously consider his position. faithful and honest servant of the public will he is not. time to do the right thing, james.... or go,in god's name go!

  21. woodrot must be a joy to be around, not just at christmas but all the miserable, grudging year through
  22. I expect the zealous new parish priest has stripped out the church to make way for more profitable activities
  23. why don,t the cops return money?
  24. the bus lane on the northbound section from somerfield onwards is operational between 7-10am. outside these hours you park for 30mins before risking a ticket
  25. we have been here since 1988. my partner predicted that ed was a coming place. it took a bit linger than antipated, but we have always been very happy here and do not intend to move. unless, of course, james barber takes control!
