  1. Thank you all very much for your replies and PMs - it's given me lots to think about and some very useful ideas and pointers.
  2. Hi all My 3 year old son has started asking questions about where his granny (my mum) is. She passed away just before he was born, and I have some photos of her in the house plus he has seen our wedding photos which she is in. We have always spoken about her around him, apart from the actual 'she is dead' part which he wouldn't have understood, but just recently he has started to ask specific questions such as 'when is granny coming to see me?' and 'I would love to see granny, why doesn't she come and see me?'. He asks them at quite random times (not when we would necessarily just have mentioned her for instance) which makes me think he is starting to think about her a bit. I am at a bit of a loss as to how to answer him - I don't want to scare him, and me and my husband are not churchgoers (although we both come from quite strongly Catholic families) so I don't really want to go down the 'she is in heaven' route as this will lead to another set of questions. What I am after is a way to sensitively answer his questions in a basic manner which he'll understand, but which won't freak him out completely. I can remember learning about death as a child and being terrified that my parents would die, and I really don't want him to feel like that at such a young age. Any ideas on how to tackle this would be really appreciated. Xx
  3. Slash Pat Smear
  4. I'd also recommend Emmanuel Marshall at ED warehouse. The lady there (Dorothy?) is lovely and good at getting little feet measured. I also never feel under pressure to buy (in fact on one occasion she had told me not to bother just yet as the shoes my son was in were fine).
  5. I had SPD during my last pregnancy and went to Russell at Dulwich Physio above DMC on Crystal Palace Road. He was very good and sorted things out in around 6 sessions for me. The key is to get help early.
  6. Would also recommend the Victoria. Maybe book a table though if you have a large group as they can get very busy at the weekend.
  7. Great news. I'd use either/both if located on Lordship Lane or in Peckham Rye.
  8. Hi GGG Welcome to East Dulwich. There is a Spring babies 2014 thread over in the Family Room which will probably be of interest to you. X
  9. I've bought it from Sainsbury's in the past (although it was sheets rather than rolls)..not sure if they have it right now but might be worth a look if you haven't tried them already.
  10. Many thanks to you both for replying. GD has been ruled out (I am tested every few weeks). Hopefully all will be well. X
  11. Hi all I am 38 weeks pregnant and was diagnosed with polyhydramnios a few weeks ago. Apart from being extremely uncomfortable, I haven't been overly worried as my midwife seems pretty laid back about it and I am having scans every two weeks at Kings to monitor things. However, I stupidly decided to do some further research (ie. I got on Google) and am now worried about things like cord prolapses and haemorrhaging. Has anyone else had polyhydramnios in their pregnancies and can give me some idea about what to expect/do when I go into labour? I have an appointment with my midwife on Friday and will be asking her for more detailed guidance, but anything from anyone who has actual first hand experience would be really appreciated. Thanks x
  12. Hi eatlessbred We didn't have anything like the problems you describe, but the nurse at our medical practice recommended HIPP milks for my son as he had eczema and acid reflux. It really worked for us and I just wanted to say that although it used to be hard to get hold of, it is now widely stocked - I just ordered some from Ocado as I am due with my second baby any day and wanted to have some on standby in case we have problems again. It is also available in Sainsbury's and I never had any problems getting it when my son was born (in 2010) - and it is on the shelves there now. Really feel for you and hope things start improving soon x
  13. We'll have a similar age gap when my baby is born in a few weeks and my son will be 3. We've found 'I'm a new big brother' from the Pirate Pete books has gone down well, but this might be because my son is obsessed with pirates, and Pirate Pete gets a baby brother (I am having a boy)! We started talking to him about it quite early on. We didn't sit him down for anything formal, but just worked it into everyday conversation. It helped that a couple of his nursery friends are starting to have siblings so we used them as a reference point.
  14. SBot - no idea, you would need to contact the organiser.
  15. I have just completed a short course which is organised by Ariadna Sole (she is on the forum as birthmatters) and I would recommend it. It was 2 consecutive Saturday mornings at 2 hours per session. We covered lots of things from CPR to cuts and wounds. It is quite fast paced, but the group was small so we got to do some practical work. I didn't have any experience at all and found it useful, so if you are after a refresher it would probably be good for you. I am not sure when the next course is, but I will be signing my husband up!
  16. I'd second GK Barbers. They do a good (and speedy) cut on my 3 year old and are very reasonablly priced. I did go to Little Clippers a couple of times and the cuts were ok, but I think you pay a premium for the added extras which I haven't found we've really needed.
  17. Aneto is child friendly, although it can get a bit cramped. It's also next to Goose Green playground which is handy.
  18. Agree with Strawbs re. don't bother getting a new one. We got a second hand one and used it for a few months. I never felt like I was caging my son in, I only shut the gate if I needed to leave him for a very short period. It was quite handy for keeping his toys in and giving him his own little space. As I say, we did only use it for a few months, so am glad we only got a used one as some of the new ones are quite expensive.
  19. I nearly cancelled a course I was going to yesterday in order to attend the sale specifically to go to this stall. Very glad I didn't now. If someone is ill, fair enough. But how have all of her items 'GONE' if she didn't turn up, and was very obviously anti selling them on here prior to the sale? If it was me, and was as desperate to get rid of everything as she seemed, I would have been on here today trying to sell like crazy! I do hope she is ok, but something just doesn't seem right.
  20. That's really lovely news - congratulations!
  21. I got them all a nice candle each last year. Am also trying to get organised now as am due with #2 soon.
  22. I'd be interested, but not until Jan/Feb time...
  23. I had this as well and went to see Russel at Dulwich Physio on the advice of friends and recommendations from this forum. He was very good and my SPD is now under control - I think the key is to catch it as early as possible.
  24. I'd also love to know if there is somewhere local that does this - I definitely get them more during pregnancy.
  25. I was with DMC CPR and had the Lanes midwives for my first son, and am now with DMC Chadwick Road and under the care of the East Midwives for my second. I think you can register with the Lanes but they give priority to CPR patients. The only real thing I miss is the continuity of having the same midwife for every antenatal appointment, but to be honest, when it came to the actual point of giving birth the Lanes midwife I had been seeing was off shift anyway so I had a Kings midwife there. It is much easier getting appointments at Chadwick road (in my experience) and Leslie-Ann (the main midwife there) is fab, definitely someone who I feel will be in my corner on D-day! I have seen two other midwives there (when Leslie-Ann has been attending home births) and they were very good as well.
