Following the recent resurfacing of The South Circular / Lordship Lane, the advanced cycle Lane Box at The Grove Tavern heading towards East Dulwich from Forest Hill has been removed. Can TFL just do this without consultation at this already very dangerous junction or is it just a mistake when the road was remarked?

Where has Lordship Lane/Wood Vale bus shelter gone?
hertburs replied to hertburs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just received the following from TFL about the replacement of this bus shelter which was removed following an accident in November. How can it take 3-4 months to replace something that was previously there. Surely TFL have stocks of these things as it cannot be a unique event. Meanwhile we all get wet and cold! "Thank you for your further email of 8 January about the bus shelter on Lordship Lane. I appreciate you taking the time to get in touch. I have looked into this for you. The Bus Infrastructure Team has confirmed it takes between 12 and 16 weeks for a bus shelter to be replaced after an accident so the shelter should be installed by the end of March. Please accept my apologies for the incorrect information you received in our previous correspondence. Thanks again for contacting us. Please contact me again if you need any further assistance, or, if you would prefer to talk to us about this matter, please call us on 0343 222 1234" -
Where has Lordship Lane/Wood Vale bus shelter gone?
hertburs replied to hertburs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have been trying hard to get a response from TFL about what their intentions are in terms of replacing the bus shelter removed following a traffic accident several weeks ago. I have now received this reply "Thanks for your further email of 3 December about a bus stop on Lordship Lane. There should be construction underway already. Works are scheduled to be finished by 23 December. Thanks again for taking the time to contact us. Please contact us again if you need any further assistance, or if you would prefer to talk to us about this matter, please call us on 0343 222 1234" Some progress seems to have been made but there is no sign of construction at the moment despite what they say! -
Where has Lordship Lane/Wood Vale bus shelter gone?

Does anyone know whom you contact at TFL to find out what is going on with the replacement of this bus shelter that was completely removed following a road accident? At the moment there is just a temporary "lollipop" bus stop. It would help if TFL were to put up a notice explaining what their intentions are. -
This is a photo looking back up Lordship Lane towards Forest Hill from the crossing point opposite The Grove. Apart from the usual sightlines problems, the view for both pedestrians and drivers is currently obscured by a road sign for footpath repairs. According to the Highway Code the stopping distance at 30mph is 23 metres (75 feet) and at 40mph is 36 metres (118 feet). This is a very fast junction as cars try to beat the traffic lights.

Yes I have but perhaps others should too. It may make a difference if all those having problems do this via the Vodafone web site.

Vodafone signal seems weaker than usual at the top end of Lordship Lane by the Grove. It appears to have been intermittent over the last few weeks.

As far as I remember, all of the candidates for the Southwark elections last year promised to do something about the awful pedestrian crossing situation at this junction. Since the elections of course nothing seems to have been done. How quickly promises are forgotten. In the meantime, I watch people everyday taking their lives in their hands trying to cross the South Circular. If you try to cross heading North towards The Grove you just cannot see anything coming fast round the corner towards Dulwich Common.

Lights now fixed. Hurrah! -
Pedestrian Crossing Lordship Lane / Wood Vale closed

No this is not the crossing at Sydenham Hill. It is about 200m further North between Underhill Road and Highwood Close. The crossing is still all closed off. -
Pedestrian Crossing Lordship Lane / Wood Vale closed

Three workmen and two vehicles there all this morning but come lunchtime they just packed up and went away again. Still no lights or any indication as to what they are doing. -
Pedestrian Crossing Lordship Lane / Wood Vale closed
hertburs replied to hertburs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is bizarre that TFL can go to so much effort covering up the traffic lights, shrouding the push buttons and putting up traffic light not operating signs in both directions without putting up a notice to say why they are doing this and for how long the crossing will be out of operation. At the moment it is a recipe for tragedy. Local councillors can you help? -
The pedestrian crossing over the South Circular at Lordship Lane / Wood Vale has been closed off and all the traffic lights etc covered over. This means crossing the South Circular is even more of a nightmare than usual. I am particularly concerned for the many blind people that use this crossing to get to the bus stops. Does anybody know why the crossing has been closed and for how long?

What is happening with the historic Grove Tavern?
hertburs replied to Martin W.'s topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Now that we are well into election season, it would be good to hear what each of the candidates has to say about the future of this building. I think it will be 2 years in August since the building closed after a fire. So come on candidates post what you have done / intend to do about this important Dulwich Common building. -
Attempted Bike Jackings / Muggings Surrey Canal Path
hertburs replied to JacquiHM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Talk of problems with the lights on The Surrey Canal Path reminds me how useful it would be to have lights on the main path through Burgess Park. This is so much safer a cycle route away from traffic that it is a shame that it can't be used at night. When the park reopened I was surprised to see that they had not been included as routes like this are generally so much safer for cyclists trying to avoid traffic on the roads. -
Saied, ably assisted by Mick, did an excellent job in appalling weather conditions of repairing our storm damaged fences and putting in concrete spurs to support the broken posts. What a lovely man - nothing is too much trouble!

I agree completely Burbage. If the system can work at The Sydenham Hill junction near to the Horniman then I fail to see what the problem is in doing something similar at The Grove junction. The need is if anything even greater as traffic heading North down the S Circular is travelling fast downhill and swings into the left hand turn lane just below Highwood Close when the bus lane finishes. You really do take your life in your hands trying to cross at this junction. It seems that absolute priority is given to vehicular traffic with no regard at all for the needs of pedestrians. Don't we deserve at least some consideration?

The crossing at the junction of Lordship Lane and the South Circular at The Grove is an absolute nightmare for both pedestrians and cyclists. Although there are traffic lights, there is no provision for pedestrians heading down to Lordship Lane from the Forest Hill direction. Because of the position of the bus lane further up the hill, cars swing into the left hand lane just before the traffic lights to follow the S Circular round on a filter light. This traffic moves fast and gives very little time for pedestrians to cross to the island in the middle in safety. The answer is to provide pedestrian lights at this junction to give people some kind of chance to get across safely. At the moment there appears to be no time at which all the traffic lights are red to allow people to cross straight over towards what was The Grove / Harvester restaurant and the on down into E Dulwich. Surely we don't have to wait for whatever is going to happen to this site for this problem to be solved!

Polly. We live there too. You should persist with the agent if the flat was advertised with an allocated parking space. They are paid to deal with this.

Another bike stolen Highwood Close
hertburs replied to hertburs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
She was using a cable lock with a key. Strong but obviously not strong enough! Next time it will have to be Krptonite or something similar. What a pain! If cycling is really to take off in London then there must be a reasonable assurance that your bike is going to be there when you get back. -
Yet another bike stolen. This time it was my daughter's pale green ladies bike. The model is Richmond and it is nearly new. It has a 17 inch frame. It was locked to the bike racks at Highwood Close and stolen sometime between lunchtime yesterday and 11 am today. Presumably the lock was cut. What a pain!
