  1. Hello Kid As Tallulah suggests, I was not there to sort it out. If I had been I would have done my best to ensure the abuser was brought to justice. If anyone does see this happening again, please call the police. You can tell them what's right too! BTW. Spoke to the lady concerned on Friday. She has read the forum and is grateful for all the support. She has also noticed many more people saying hello to her. Big thanks to those of you who have greeted her, especially the person who shouted "It's electric!" out of their car window to her, that raised a chuckle! 2. Hello everyone The purpose of my post was to bring to your attention incidences of hate crime in our area in the hope that some of you may be able to provide information to me or the police, and also that you may have words of support for the victim. I'm glad to say this has generally been the case. If you feel the need to criticise the language I used, can you please create a seperate thread to do so. I would also like to add that it was neither 'kids' nor 'people who play with guns' who carried out this abuse. The perpetrators are a lot closer to home than that! 3. Sorry if I caused offence Sophie but I was thinking pretty much exactly of Saffron's definition when I included that word in the title. Having spoken to the lady for about 20 minutes, and having heard of the upset caused to her, I'm more than happy with my choice of word. I thought it rather restrained in the circumstances. Andrew. Thanks for the advice but I have already notified the SNT through the warden reporting system. SASBU will only become involved once we find out details of the perpetrators. I have more information than has been published, but not names and addresses yet. If anyone does witness such a crime taking place, please call the police on 999 immediately. Please don't assume it won't be taken seriously. Just to clarify for all, the police Safer Neighbourhood Team for your area can be contacted most easily by dialing 101. They also have their own individual office and mobile numbers which can be found on the Met Police website. To report all low level anti-social behaviour such as noise/neighbour nuisance, littering, dog fouling, graffiti etc...... call the Council ASB hotline on 020 7525 5777. Depending on the issue and it's seriousness, it could be dealt with in a number of ways ranging from a visit by a council officer to prosecution. 4. ............who have been heaping abuse and ridicule on the lady in a wheelchair walking her dog in and around Peckham Rye Park. It's an electric wheelchair you fools. The dog isn't towing her! Did you REALLY think it was? This lady has stopped coming to the park at certain times of the day because of face to face abuse, snide comments, dirty looks and mockery. If you have any decency, and are also capable of coherent speech, please tell her you are sorry when you see her next. If I hear of this happening again, or witness such harassment, I will involve the police. Mark Newell Park Liaison Officer Peckham Rye Park 07940 743929 [email protected]
  5. Phew! Glad there are some people who have seen me in and around the park! First Mate. Much as I would like to fine people for urinating in public, neither I nor the Council have the powers to do so. All i can do is try to make them feel very embarrassed about it. The police, however, can issue PCNs or in aggravated circumstances arrest and charge people. I would also like to add that the problem of people urinating in the park is not exclusively a male one! DJKQ.As regards footballers littering, I would say that nearly all of the organised, county FA affiliated teams do arrange to clear up anything they drop. There is a problem with some unaffiliated groups who use the pitches without paying for them and also leave litter. I do speak to these players and ask them to respect the park but it can be difficult to ensure compliance when they aren't affiliated to a governing body that will punish them. That said, they nearly always respond to a polite request to clear up when they have finished. Good suggestion about voluntary park wardens First Mate but we already have them, dog walkers, joggers, footballers, kids in the skate park etc.............. the eyes and ears of Peckham Rye Park! 6. Hello all Just for your information (especially for Councillor Hamvas!), there is a warden based in the office adjoining the toilets at Peckham Rye Park. I have been there for over a year now, during which time I have issued fixed penalty notices to many people for dog fouling or littering, told off many more for allowing their dogs off lead where they shouldn't be and also told off many people (including footballers) for urinating in public. I'm also the horrible man who will tell you to put out your barbeque, stop playing golf, take down your tent, get off the bowling green etc........ Hopefully you will all have seen me cycling around the park, with warden emblazoned on my bright yellow jacket, bike and cycle helmet. If I'm not out and about in the park, I may be in the office or patrolling one of the many satellite parks around Peckham Rye. My contact details are posted on all of the PRP notice boards. Please call me if you see someone behaving in an anti social manner and I will try to come over and deal with it if at all possible. I often answer calls even on rest days. If I don't, leave a message and I will call you back. Mark Newell Park Liaison Officer Peckham Rye Park 07940 743929 [email protected]
