  3. It was where flocks of geese rested en route from Kent to central London - so an obvious place for a market and for locals to relax.
  4. They gave away bread when it was on the verge of being stale, or at least that is how they explained it to me.
  5. While you're talking to them Renata, can you find out what is happening to the two burnt out shops on Rye Lane that have now stood like that since the riots?
  6. That's probably Lane/Peckham ward?
  7. Kudos to Southwark though, it's a great service.
  8. Anyway, went to Artusi last night, had grilled artichokes with bagna caulda and octopus with asparagus and wild garlic, followed by olive oil cake with loquats - all delicious and the chef I was eating with was similarly impressed. Three courses each, two glasses of wine and a glass of vermouth each, and the bill came to ?80 including service - which we added.
  9. I believe there is only one credible professional anonymous reviewer and that is Marina O'Loughlin of the Guardian.
  10. For crying out loud, it's Scott of Capital pubs/Bishop/Actress/Florence.
  11. The pet shop in Lewisham have lots - maybe they could help?
  12. For over a year they have had loads of empty shelf space, trying to fill it at Christmas with panetonne....said, but I am not surprised.
  13. There is, it's here: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/professional/protection/process/national-heritage-list-for-england/ And I can't find Crown House on it. The Leisure Centre is listed.
  14. I was just wondering that KK. On Rye Lane (yes, I know, pit of filth and dirt) the council do a 'box' run every day at around 5.00 pm - perhaps something similar could be organised for LL?
  15. I have had confirmation from the Ivy House that they sell Tavern Snack crisps. Yay.
  16. Ivy House do Tavern snack crisps.
  17. I echo those suggesting you get a referral to a gastro-enterologist - this has been going on for too long.
  18. Had dinner there with a friend tonight. It is a lovely room, great service. Menu changes all the time and comprises three starters, three pasta/risotto, three mains, three puddings. We had three starters, two mains, a pudding and three glasses of wine, bill came to ?60. This is not your usual pasta/pizza restaurant but great Italian cooking with a modern edge. Loved it.
  19. Sorry, we were considering Swadesh but remembered the dry policy, looked at Jaflong website and no mention of wine list. Thanks for letting me know.
  20. So Jaflong sell wine? Not clear from their website.

    Rye Lane

So, this is what a fishmonger on Rye Lane says about his working life and how he makes his business work - from Sally Butcher's Blog - she runs Persepolis on Peckham High Street and like me buys meat and fish and fruit and veg from the shops in our local area. - http://cornershopkeeper.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/shop-days-6-the-fishmonger/
