Hi there, Our lovely son is nearly 15 and doing the DofE. As part of it he needs to have a role as a Volunteer for 3 months for one hour a week. He was thinking he'd like to help perhaps an older person, or someone who finds it tricky to get out, to do their weekly shop for them, or maybe help them in their garden. We are near Heber School in East Dulwich so ideally somewhere that wasn't too far would be great. Also open to other ideas. Many thanks!

Hi all, my son is looking for Year 10 work experience for next year May 9th - May 12th He is particularly interested in finance and economics (and also very good at history and geography) It could be with an accountant or maybe the finance side of a small business/solicitors etc. He would particularly like a smaller, local company. Can anyone help out a lovely local boy? Many thanks! Lynners

I saw a flier saying that this was happening specifically on the 28th March, but are people doing it every night? So lovely if they are. If so will try and get a Landells Road possie together. So lovely. The other one I've heard about is people putting a picture/painting of. rainbow in their window as a beacon of hope. Haven't seen this yet in East Dulwich but want to do this on the weekend.

Waking up today to a very cold day we had the joys of a boiler that stopped working. Ringing around a lot of plumbers/gas engineers I was having no luck trying to find someone who could come out to look at it today. We have two kids so didn't love the idea of having no hot water or heating for too long. I spoke to Gerry who was also on a job and would struggle to get to me today. However he so very kindly said he could try and talk me through a solution to the problem which he did. With Gerry as my right hand man over speaker phone I managed to get the front off the boiler and reset it. Much joy was had as it kicked into action! Thanks so much Gerry for taking the time to help me. You are an absolute gentleman.

Hi there, My son is hugely in to the outdoors and insects. Does anyone know of any foresting type club etc. for older kids? He's 10. I've been asking around for ages and they all seem to be for younger children. Anything with an insect/reptile vibe would be amazing too. Any suggestions greatly received! Thanks

Hi there, I seem to have trapped a nerve in my back in a foolish overexercising kind of manner and it's proving rather challenging to get my toddler out of his cot etc. Fun times. Anyway never having been in this position before I don't know whether a physio or a chiropractor would be better to go to. Does anyone have any local recommendations for me please? I'm in SE22. Thank you.

I've been going to Hummy Mummies for over a year now, also with my two boys. It has rekindled my love for singing and music, at the same time as providing my kids with a great outlet. They have fun playing in the hall with lots of other lovely kids whilst surrounded by music, and mums having a great time. All good. If you're looking for something that's as much fun for yourself as for your kids Hummy Mummies is it. Richard who runs the group is incredibly warm and welcoming, and very understanding of the rather unstructured needs of children, whilst running a very talented singing group. Hummy mummies is good for the soul and I'm so glad that I found it.

Drama class that's not 'jazz hands'
lynners replied to lynners's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you. I will have a look in to these options. Much appreciated. They sound great. Unfortunately our school doesn't have an after school drama club. Oh how I wish they did. -
My 6 year old is very shy at performing in front of a big group but is quite dramatic at home. I really want to get him in to a drama class locally (SE22) to build his confidence. There are so many though that are also dancing/singing/west end based which is not him at all. Does anyone know any classes that are quite 'boy' based? Silly faces/voices etc. Thanks so much

Hi there, I have a friend from South Africa who wants to see a gynaecologist quite quickly. Does anyone know of a private one available please. Thanks.

Hi there. Is anyone still involved in Beavers? Very interested for my nearly 6 year old boy. Can anyone confirm times or have contact details? Thanks so much.

Hi James. This looks really interesting and we would like to try the class. I can't find any contact details on the website however. Do you have any? -
Martial Arts Classes for 5 year olds
lynners replied to lynners's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks very much for your responses. My mother-in-law is a black belt in jiu jitsu and keeps telling me judo is right for my son - that he's too young for anything else. I feel I need to bow down to her knowledge. If there doesn't seem to be any judo classes near us though, hopefully she'll accept Tae Kwon Do. Wish me luck ;-) -
I'm looking for a martial arts class in ED for my 5 1/2 year old. I think Judo would be ideal. The only one I've found is at ED Fusion on Friday evenings which unfortunately doesn't work for us. Anyone know of any others please?

Sounds like a nice idea. I've got a 4 year old boy and am due in a week and a half. Would normally offer my home up for a play date if there wasn't too many but am currently having building work done so it's complete bedlam!!! I've just started maternity leave. My little boy goes to Heber nursery from 12.30 - 3.30 every day and to be honest I tend to use that time to get all my own bits done, but before or after that time would be good. Look forward to hearing from you. Lynlea

Hi there, I haven't joined you all yet, but one of the lovely Mums through the Lanes Midwifery Practice told us she was coming along on Saturday. Would love to come and meet you. I've already got a little boy who turned 4 yesterday and am due on June 23rd. OK for a newbie to pop along with her little chap? Lynlea

Hi there, We've recently moved over from West Dulwich to ED and I'm four months pregnant with my second child. In WD there were some very long waiting lists for nurseries, in particular, for Nellys - 2 years i.e. if you planned to go back to work after your year's maternity leave, in theory you needed to register your child before you were actually pregnant! That being the case, I had to start looking at some nurseries during my pregnancy to make it on to the lists. I just wanted to know if I was going to experience similarly long waiting lists here so that I can get on the case! We live on Landells Road and my son goes to nursery at Heber so ideally I'm looking for something close by. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Many thanks,

Thanks very much ladies for the suggestions. Will definitely check them out. I know Heber doesn't have a Children's Centre but does Goodrich, or maybe Goose Green Primary? They would be a little closer to me. I'll be at the Whateley Road end of Landells Road. Are there any groups run in church halls close by? I think Peckham Rye has a One O'clock Club - is that right? If so where is it? I've been to the cafe and saw a carpark on the other side. Where do you go from there? Thanks so much. Can't wait to be settled in my new home.
