  1. Yes there is a clarks shop on rye lane i bought a pair of shoes there last week, also rumbelows was defo still there in 1995 as they sold me a wshing machine
  2. Apparently it cost a million pounds as well to put those bollards in, based on a very successful scheme in scandanavia. Sweden/Rye lane peckham - spot the difference
  3. EDDW Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does she pay taxes and clean up after herself when > using others's gardens? No she doesn't earn enough to pay taxes and is too precious to put her bottom in anyone else's garden - insists on her own litter tray - more's the pity
  4. I can't speak for dogs, as I don't have one but as for keeping cats cooped up my cat is free to go wherever she likes and its her choice to stay in her own garden, she is a very happy cat - even though she lives in London (It's difficult to kep cats cooped up anyway - they will do their own thing!). And she fulfils her responsibilities, (despite, like many humans, not being able to debate the concept,) as a pet very well - she is cute, furry, funny and friendly - what more could be asked!
  5. 'bring back a proper competitive sports day for all schools and the losers should stop bloody whining!!' I agree. Accepting defeat in good grace and being able to congratulate the winner is a lesson all children need to learn (or so I was always told when I was at school!) and how can talented sporty children reach their full potential if they are not allowed to compete?
  6. i think the idea of non-competetive sports is a fantastic concept which should realise its full potential in the 2012 Olympics. No winners, no losers, no medals, flags or national anthems - just a load of athletes milling around at the end of their non-competitive race feeling very chuffed with themselves because they haven't lost and at the same time conveniently covering up for the fact that we (Brits) are rubbish and wouldn't have won anything anyway - brilliant!
  7. why you getting new phones every year? This is bad for the environment or someting apparently, make do with what you've got
  8. Gosh Daniel, I don't think all animal shelters are like that, i got my cat from cats protection and she wasn't kept in a cage but running free and definitley well cared for, and she now has a great life. It's not ideal for the cat to be taken to a shelter/charity but if a cat has no home at least it will get the chance of a new one. Hopefully someone will come forward and claim this one first anyway. Sorry to hear about your cat spadetownboy.

Keep all dogs locked up (or on a short leash in public places anyway) so children and cats can run free...
  10. Sad but v v rich. Better than being sad and poor.

Haven't seen her but I do remember reading a magazine article that said she lived in ED and goes swimming in the local pool
  12. Glad to hear that Vicky, anything sounds better than what's there at the moment, but I'm sure you will do very well - look forward to you opening
  13. Good, I need some new shoes
  14. Hey Richard I had a very deprived kittenhood and wasn't allowed to watch star wars films! I was taught to play chess though (I'm quite clever for a cat) Am particlarly fond of the prawns - oops sorry I mean pawns (as you can see haven't played in a while, am also slightly food obsessed).
  15. 'many more younglings will head my way...' I don't know what a 'youngling' is but it sounds like they better watch out - this sounds spooky!
  16. Three cops came cycling up my road all together the other day. They looked a bit wobbly though, like beginner cops on bikes.
  17. Mango, Zara, H&M, Top Shop, kookai, John Lewis or Selfdriges
  18. Edneerd, The reason women don't take their careers seriously after they have children is probably because they're too knackered from looking after the kids. Also, noone else seems to takt their 'career' seriously either. in my workplace i have the husbands ringing up to say their wives have to go home 'cos the school called to say the child is sick, if you ask why the husband can't be the one to leave work to go get the kid you're told it's because his job is more important and he earns the money! Also, Dominatius, if you think the pension scheme has been unfair to men - well it was men who made that decision in the first place so you only have yourselves to blame. If you feel discriminated against by women having their own sessions in the swimming pool then you have some idea of how it feels for women who always have been, and remain, discriminated against in many aspects, some of which are a bit more serious than not being able to swim on a Thursday evening
  19. I also occasionally run in dulwich park but i'm afraid you won't get a smile or hello as i'm too busy attempting to get to the end of my run without collapsing whilst simultaneously trying to also stop my lungs from exploding. This requires a lot of concentration therefore I normally wear a red face and a scowl. The runners of brockwell are obviously a fit bunch.
  20. Sorry - didn't mean to suggest any unlawful activities on the part of chickens!!!, What i actually meant was cottage chicken, or chicken cottage, its the sort of kentucky fried chicken shop but not quite, located near to the station. I don't think in fact that you are missing much, although i may be wrong as i don't frequent the place so i can't actually verify what the chickens do or don't get up to...
  21. I think the sign is quite clear enough but despite that I still used to go through onto Rye lane on a regular basis as it is quite inconvenient otherwise, and I'm not quite sure why you shouldn't, anyway I was lucky enough not to be caught out, thank you to all you people on this thread, I won't do it again
  22. I think petals looks lovely - can't wait to go and have a look in there, much more uselful to me than cottagedchicken or iceland which in all the years i have lived here i have only been in twice and couldn't find anything to buy
  23. Ibo, I've been in ED 16 years and the day I arrived we searched ED from top to bottom and found the Harvester as our saviour in being the only place in the whole of ED that provided Sunday lunch! Yes it is a pain that parking problems have increased but times move on and, although it was never a dump, I think ED has becomne a much better and more desirable place to live, certainly no shortage of Sunday lunches now. My home is now worth more than 5 times what I paid for it - and I can't help feeling quite pleased about that, don't think I'm alone in that! if you have not noticed, property prices have gone up all over the place, it is not special to ED. A few years ago all the butchers, greengrocers etc. started to go out of business and close down, there were loads of boarded up shops on LL etc. Surely it's better to have shops that are open and in business, even if they are quite'poncy' - no-one owns ED, whatever business opens and thrives mnust be serving the needs of the community.
