  1. And I found my copy elsewhere. The New European is everywhere!
  2. Ta, J1 and ?s. Looking forward to grabbing a copy.
  3. Anyone know where I can buy a copy of this newspaper locally? The first edition's out today apparently. It's been spotted in at least one newsagent, in Wimbledon, and the Jonathan Freedland article is meant to be a must-read. http://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/home
  4. Just received mine in the post today.
  5. Well done. Sorry I couldn't be there.
  6. Very nice, DF. Currently watching lightening over Turin. May have something to do with Italy vs. Belgium. :-)
  7. And Pennsylvania is near Bath. I too share Foxy's maps and the weather. Isn't geography great!
  8. Sorry to hear that, FwAAr. We are also on Adys Rd and were burgled exactly the same way about 18 months ago. It's scary when they break in and you're at home. PM me if you want to compare notes. I assume you reported the burglary to the police.
  9. Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably stick with the contactless for the moment. And yes, Nigello, why the 63 bus terminates where it does is a mystery.
  10. Right, so as an occasional train and tube user, when the fares increase I'd be better off reverting to my Oyster card. Thanks, UG.
  11. ... when the fare increases occur, I mean.
  12. Given the Mayor's turnaround on a fare freeze, are Oyster cards now cheaper than contactless cards for train and tube rides? I couldn't find any analysis about this online.
  13. A touching tribute to a local, spotted in today's hardcopy edition of The Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/mar/23/doris-jacobs-obituary Nice to see non-celebs acknowledged in the Other Lives section of the paper.
  14. Don't know if you are still looking, Gaynor, but the price I was given by a seamstress in a local dry-cleaner's shop for minor alterations to a few shirts turned out to be higher than the tailor in the shop on Bellenden Rd. I think the shop is called Otherwise. This was a couple of years ago. You might want to check them out.
  15. I do wish people would start using the CORRECT name for the Bellenden/Gowlett area :-). It's not Peckham. It's Peckham Rye, peeps. So say the estate agents so it must be true.......... Anyway, I hope the mysterious explosion in DV doesn't reoccur.
  16. Try John Lanchester. A Debt to Pleasure or Mr Phillips. The former is darkly funny, the latter innocent and uplifting in a nostalgic way.
  17. Good to know. I will definitely be checking it out. The area needs a good garden centre after the demise of the one by ED station.
  18. Thanks, Burbage. No, the will writer neglected to tell me about that rather handy service... Thanks, Bob and S'boy. If you could just certify the backup and security features of your respective biscuit tins, I will ensure your proposals become part of the tender process. :-)
  19. Hello peeps, Having written my will, I'm now trying to decide how to store it. Any advice? Options I'm considering include lodging the document:1. with a solicitor, 2. with a bank, 3. with a will-writing company, 4. in a safe place at home. I'll obviously also send a copy to the executor. I've had the will drafted by a will-writing company who are now offering me extra services, namely secure storage of the doc, unlimited updates to it, and as much help as necessary to the executor administering the thing at some point in the future - distant, I hope :-). I'm tempted by this offer, but they're charging ?2000 for it. That might sound a lot, but apparently compared with the percentage that banks take for administering a will, it's not (depending on the size of the estate, that is). If you've given this some thought, while drafting a will or administering/executing one, I'd love to hear from you. PM if you'd prefer. I'm just wondering whether there's a common approach, or something I've missed. Ta!
  20. Not greenfinches, by any chance? They tweet like crazy though maybe not all day.
  21. No, it was a safeguarding incident involving Postman Pat's black and white cat.
  22. The lead singer of The Foals (whoever they are) has just moved to Peckham. This public service announcement is brought to you by yesterday's Guardian.
  23. Those types of books do have a short lifetime, don't they. Send them on their way in the blue, plastic hearse. That's what I do. If I feel particularly attached to a specific technical training or reference book (it does happen), I cut out the most interesting page and keep that rather than the whole tome.
  24. I see admin has added a revoke button, Loz.
