April -Half Term Tutoring Workshops Clapham Library
kishlight replied to kishlight's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for all the comments made on this post and the interesting debate that may come from my response! I just came off a call to Miss Knight and she stated that it's now over 70 ED parents have entered the competition. She also said that she agrees with the fact that children should have a break and play (I too, strongly agree) however there is clearly a need for external education support(hence her Tutor school set up- she is a teacher in a main srteam school term time)She said that she has had a number of mums on the consultation call expressing how little support their child is receiving, even after continual requests to teachers and schools for help. Some of these mums have been in tears, whilst talking about the pressures their child and ultimately the parents are under within the education system today. The last competition winner is a prime example of this. You can read her story here http://knightstutoringlondon.co.uk/stellas-success-story-amazing/ There are other parents who just want to enrol for GCSE Revision support-they feel they are ensuring that their child is supported through a challenging exam prep time. For others the children themselves have requested to return to the workshops as they were such fun (my daughter included)They make new friends and realise that learning can actually be fun! There are many children who have progressed dramatically through attending only a few workshops, by being given the right support or working with the child's individual learning style. It can take only one adult to make a huge difference in a child's life be it educationally or otherwise.. I think we should also be mindful that it is very challenging for teachers to support every single child individually, especially as there is also a lot of pressure on them too. There are many reasons why a child would or could benefit from attending a workshop: extra support, parents unable to support because the methodology has completely changed since they learnt a subject, illness, just changed schools, moved area, parents with mental health problems etc. These issues are not experienced by parents based on class or,educational background - just life. And finally... I think that as parents, we should be extremely grateful if our children are doing well at school and are able to enjoy their holidays without worrying about going back to school. Unfortunately, this is not the case for all families, so should we judge these parents for entering a competition, when we have no idea what is going on in their lives? I would like to think that we would embrace the opportunity of a possibility of free or discounted educational support for those who may need it most. -

Its that time again...GSCE Revision & Exam prep, SATS booster and Common entrance exam prep One of my clients, Knights Tutoring London, runs a Tutoring Workshop every half term break for 5 days for children aged 7-16 years (KS2,KS3 & KS4) There are 10 Tutoring sessions over 5 days, you can book one or all 10. Miss Knight, Director, has asked me to give you a 10% off discount code- "welcome10" to enter at checkout. There's also a really simple competition as well, to win a full weeks Tutoring place(10 sessions)- just state why you think your child would benefit from attending the workshops. The entry form is on every page in a black box. A little bit of info: Every child has an initial assessment and is given an "Individual Learning Package" Fuul week and half week students also get back to school support for 7 days via phone and email PLUS a full report with targets set against their own levels and National Curriculum Standards For more info or if you would like to speak to Miss Knight call 07931 822051. or go to their website http://knightstutoringlondon.co.uk/

aLso...obviously not having any knowledge of whether your boss is trustworthy or not, but a family member in same situation was actively encouraged by her boss to go for less hours with a view to increase later, when in actual fact they had begun "re-structuring" behind the scenes and she was never able to return to her original hours/

Local success at the #Ocar2014! Fundraising ideas?
kishlight replied to kishlight's topic in The Lounge
...PM me here -
Interested in Fundraising for a great cause? Hi some of you know me as a local web designer and marketing consultant in our local area..Well, I am honoured to tell you that have been working on a really exciting project for the last couple of weeks building the Marc Bolan School Of Music website. Those of you over the age of 40 will remember Marc Bolan, huge 70s icon, who tragically died in a car accident. Marc Bolan's partner, Gloria Jones and son Rolan Bolan, have begun a journey to raise money to build a music school in Marc's name. Their aim is to raise an initial ?50k to start the build. Some companies, artists and celebrities have already pledged and donated services computers and auction items etc. This project, when completed will change the lives of 100s of children and families in Sierra Leone and further afield. Co-founder Gloria Jones, had great success last night when a documentary which she participated in won Best Documentary at last nights Oscars! The school build campaign "Buy a brick- build a school" was officially launched at midnight last night, where anyone can support by purchasing a brick (or 100s!) for just a ?1 each. If you are part of an organisation, school, club or just want to donate a ?1 please contact us. We would love to cover some local fundraising events. There are also plans for the near future opportunities for children to become penpals when the internet access is set up. Even if you are unable to donate or fundraise, if you can share the "buy a brick" campaign or any other posts from our site on Facebook and Twitter is also worth its weight in GOLD! Follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook as well Please feel free to conatact us email [email protected] Website http://marcbolanschoolofmusic.com/ Thanks for reading...appreciate all support Kirstie x

This is a great idea, I am Kish's other half and ran groups like this in Southwark as a coordinator for 10 years,As a suggestion contact local Childrens Centres and also put a notice up on Netmums Southwark. All Childrens Centres have Core commissioned services attached to their reach area such as Surestart Midwife, H/V etc.if you get a link with the outreach workers of each centre they should be able to put you in touch with professionals who can visit and offer support and advice as well as the obvious which is they can let their database know that you exist. They will be able to signpost and refer to the other services in locality through Early help Team if appropriate. If you would like a flyer done for your group I will do it free of charge if you provide the content. Its easier to get Childrens Centres involved if you have this...I will also give you advice if you need.

Suspicious blokes underhill road
kishlight replied to chauveau's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We had glue put in our front door lock a couple of weeks ago and we are on Undehill end of Friern Rd look at post "glue in lock" -
Hi we used Sean Mullins twice to paint our whole house!!and was recommended from a friend. He was brilliant, a bit of a perfectionist like me and was really cheap as well. His number if you want to use him is 07463704811

No it wasnt broken in luckily!
-
I just replied to above. Didn't see your explanation!!
-
Apparently its normally connected with burglary. Its to stop you being able to get in your home whilst they are taking your stuff out the back of your house... We have a semi detached corner property so I guess a target for breaking in
