  1. i think we need another day spa. do you have any idea how hard it is to get an appointment at therapy (on melbourne grove) these days?
  2. well put macroban!
  3. surely it cannot be that easy. i won't be fooled by you ?????. neither of my friends are that... erm... well, like you are.
  4. okay, i'm feeling really guilty all of the sudden, so now i'll have to confess all... i do not actually care about cricket. although hugh grant -- and imran kahn for that matter -- look quite tasty in those white outfits. i do not really have an interest in journalism. the truth is that i have two friends who are regular forumites. trouble is, they will not reveal their screen names to me, this despite being able to suss mine on something like my first or second ever posting! i am quite new to the forum and cannot stand the mystery -- well, of course part of me loves it... the detective work, etc. anyway... one of them is taking a journalism course and the other is a HUGE cricket fan so i was hoping to draw them into a trap whereby i could identify them. dear me, will i be kicked off the forum forever for this?? i know i know it was an ill-conceived plan! OF COURSE my two friends are far too smart and cunning for that old game... but let's just call it rioja logic. i'm so sorry to all you kind people (not you, ?????) who replied. and by the way, if i WAS genuinely interested in those things (as i am in the NTL/Virgin Cable box question), i would feel justified in posting those questions. OF COURSE one could do one's own research (amazon.com, google, etc duh!) but how much easier, nicer, less lonely, to get a recommendation from one of you wise lot. R & R... if you two are out there reading this... the investigation continues. I WILL FIND YOU!!!!!!!!!!
  5. so sorry to have troubled you.
  6. thanks for your reply. sorry to be thick but is that a one-off charge or a monthly charge? thanks
  7. I am new to the game of cricket and would really like a book that would provide me with a nice overview, just so that I can better enjoy the game. Can anyone recommend such a book? Thank you.
  8. I am looking for an intro Journalism course to take one evening (perhaps on Tuesday)? Any thoughts anyone? MS ROR, any ideas?
  9. hi i have an NTL (now virgin) cable box that is currently connected to our one and only tv. does anyone know if you get a second telly (as we are thinking of doing) and want cable would we need to get a second cable box and pay more money? does it work the same way with other providers such as SKY? thanks
  10. please don't spoil that gorgeous dress with those shoes!
  11. heaven: being so privileged that i am able to eat whatever i like, whenever i please hell: going hungry somewhere in between: knowing that whilst i am eating whatever i like whenever i like, other people are in hell
  12. i concur that service at puffin is non-existent... but frankly, that's okay with me! i'm quite happy to go in there, browse through their extensive selection, take my purchases to the till, pay and leave without a single exchange of banalities. okay, a smile or acknowledgement from time to time wouldn't be unwelcomed, might even brighten my day... but it wouldn't make me purchase any more from them than i already do. i wouldn't call them "rude"... they seem to me to just be very very very very very into making all those crafty type things their always busy making. as if they are completely focused (to the point of distraction) on their occupation/purpose/project/task at hand... i should be so lucky myself!
  13. hi just wondering if anyone local has any views on what they'd like to see go into the old electrical engineers shop (facing peckham rye common) that is for lease? a cafe? perhaps a retail establishment? a greengrocer or something else foodie? a theatre perhaps? please not an art gallery or an estate agents! nor a boutique place with knicknacks...
  14. hi welcome to the neighbourhood. i live round the corner from you and find the area safe, parking pretty easy, buses excellent, shopping convenient (there are soooo many options). all in all, you've made a fantastic choice. any more questions... do write. i spent a couple years getting to know everything local and would be happy to pass on any "insider" info if it helps. oh, p.s. you must try the rye hotel across the common -- excellent. also, i would avoid the common when it's dark.

    .

this is the best, most informative thread i've ever seen on the forum. i love it.
  16. i saw jason statham (sp?) from that guy ritchie movie at the crown & greyhound (not quite East Dulwich) and my friend spotted Rupert Penry-Jones (hottie from Spooks) in Dulwich Park. He's a Dulwich College Old Boy apparently. My old neighbour was semi-famous, v. good looking baddie from Laura Croft Tomb Raider (also played a superb John Proctor in the recent Crucible in the West End)... Ian something or other... noticing good-looking famous blokes seems to come easiest... oh, james nesbitt works out at my gym.
  17. how sad! it's my kids' favourite place for a saturday morning hot chocolate... not least because of BLUE, the lovely doggie who let's them pet him to their hearts content. (must say, i was a tad concerned when i learned that blue is a pit bull, but he has always seemed very gentle etc)... guess i won't have to worry about that now.
  18. dear michael, i take your point, but baby steps before leaps... enlightenment will come, even to america. but it takes time. remember, as a country we are only an adolescent. shosh
  19. dear misi i am driving from east dulwich to the obama meeting tomorrow so let me know if you need a lift. there are three of us going in my car and we are departing around 6.30. maybe you will already be in town and going straight there? in any case, if you want a lift home find me at the meeting. best, shosh
  20. Thanks for these -- much appreciated.
  21. Hi Just looking for fellow Americans living in East Dulwich. Not that I prefer Americans, just that I am involved in the political process (US presidential primary) and hoping to meet up with others also interested in the movement to change American politics. There's a website where US citizens living abroad can register to vote and also there are lots of meetings going on to support the various candidates (I am going to one this Wednesday evening). Drop me a note if you're interested. Shosh :)
  22. Hi Jenni Welcome to the neighbourhood. We live just around the corner on Tyrrell Road, at the bottom of Oakhurst Grove, but we have very good friends living in Fenwick Road. They've been there about 6 years and not a single problem I am aware of. They have three small children, a beautiful home, and near as I can tell, get along happily with their neighbours. One of the best things about this area is the diversity... we have been here three years and hope to be here another 30. S.
