  1. Read my first ever Harlen Coben last week which I picked up at the Book Swap. Terribly written, outrageous plot, unsympathetic characters, and a real page-turner. Bit of a guilty pleasure!
  2. Yeah, but the incline on the way home starts way down Denmark Hill, so by the time you get to the top of Champion Hill you're fit to drop. Freewheeling down DKH can be pretty terrifying and not too good for your brakes either.
  3. I think our Admin should grow up. *Takes cover...*
  4. Fair point nutty. A helicopter would also be quicker, but again the issue of parking rears it's head. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention Dog Kennel Hill, surely no cyclist likes to be at the bottom of that hill staring upwards first thing in the morning?
  5. I used to cycle to work from ED to London bridge (probably over a period of a year and a half) and must say I used to dread it every morning and evening. Yes there are clear benefits but there are plenty of negatives too. - Putting up with dangerous drivers and bendy buses - Fumes - Humiliation of being constantly overtaken by mature and or vastly overweight people on exceedingly cheaper bikes than your own - Getting to work feeling thoroughly knackered and sweaty - Getting home feeling thoroughly knackered and sweaty - The hassle factor of having to get showered at both ends of the journey (or opting to stay stinky of an evening) - Fixing punctures on the Walworth Road - Leaving key items of clothing at home... How I smiled as I stepped out of the work shower only to realise I had forgotten to pack my trousers. Do you then sit at your desk in smelly shorts all day or do you get straight out to buy some new ones? It's all very noble cycling and if your idea of fun is spending half the morning on a bus then that's great too, but give me the train any day. Sometimes it's late/cancelled but not as often as many would have you believe, and when it does run on time there's no quicker way into London Bridge (and if anyone says cycling is quicker, then they clearly aren't stopping at red lights).
  6. Act like a complete arse in the hope that they will dump you.
  7. Got the 8.35 and I thought I noticed an ipod on the track! I'm sure someone could have scooped it up with a massive umbrella... I once saw a woman lose a high heel shoe off that platform too, it stared miserably back at me for the next few weeks.
  8. I would imagine that they're converting the top floor into a flat/flats. There seem to be a lot of flat renovations along that stretch. Downstairs will remain Cafe El Paso, as was stated by a notice put up by the owner when the work began.
  9. By giving them a kicking you are handing them the opportunity to become a victim, an opportunity they don't deserve. If you don't give them a kicking they have to answer for their actions alone.
  10. Did you know, if you catch a rat, it's illegal to drown it?
  11. I have just returned from a jaunt to somerfield, and remain un-molested.

  13. Yes, I'll need more than a month to get through the 8 books I picked up this time round!
  14. I believe you would need a separate Tuner.
  15. Nice to meet you all too. Some fine swapping went on, still not too sure about that "Chick-lit" book you persuaded me to take home though!
  16. Just remebered... Psycho! I thought I was unlikely to be scared by a Black and White film. I was wrong.
  17. The Shining. The Exorcist. The Blair Witch Project. I find the suggestion of horror rather than pure gore to be my undoing.
  18. How dare you insinuate that I am not a real captain?!
  19. Did you have rat-atouille for dinner?
  20. I'll be there then. Hopefully not sat on my own with a pile of books looking like a numpty! Maybe admin can move this thread to the what's on section...
  21. I'm top of the league!
  22. I read the latest twist in this morning's Metro. The Dulwich Man denies any wrong-doing and claims it was the work of his twin brother (identical DNA) who lives in Sydenham!
  23. Well, if there are enough willing participants for a meet-up, then who am I to argue? Perhaps we could do a combination of both? I like the idea of changing the venues as well (not living particularly close to the George Canning!). Anyone want to kick off with a suggested date/venue?
  24. I'm interested in getting involved in a little bit of Book Swapping. There were a few Book Swap get togethers a while back which sounded faitly successful but seem to have petered out. There are websites out there where you can list books you have to swap, you find someone who has a book you like and, in good faith, you post books to each other. Nice idea, but who can be bothered to be constantly wrapping books, working out postage etc etc.? How about a local equivalent? You list any books you have to swap on this thread and anyone who wants to read what you're offering can PM you and arrange a local swap.
