I took some "rags" (mostly clean fabric scraps and old curtains) into the main Southwark Refuse and Recycling Centre on the Old Kent Road and was directed to the "everything else" section. I suspect most of this stuff is used as fuel and incinerated. I can't see anyone retrieving fabrics for reuse from soggy plastic bags/household refuse. Apparently the owners of the clothing bins sort their donations here and anything not good enough for sale is simply left - and so has the same fate. So if you want to recycle fabric in an environmentally friendly way this is not the place. Sadly.

Thought I'd post as he's still active: junction of Bellenden Road and Peckham High Street a few weeks ago, and Rye Lane latish Wednesday evening. I felt guilty refusing the first time (I was in the car at traffic lights) so gave ?1 the second. Next time (as I'm sure there will be) I'll just give him my packet of wet wipes!
Pond for model boats. Paddling at best. Conspicuous for a swim!
Isn't this area Metropolitan Open Land? It might be a bit controversial locally replacing open space with a restaurant, gym, yoga/dance studio and function room for hire. Do the Friends of Peckham Rye Park have a view on the new Lido?

There's a map in the Peckham and Nunhead Area Action Plan (PNAAP) showing the 'most deprived' areas of Southwark. (It's on the www.southwark.gov.uk site) It looks as if the 'most deprived' area in Nunhead is the Cossall Estate. I don't think many people would consider this to be in Nunhead! (Though it is in Nunhead local government ward).
There's also a memorial to 64 men for died in the First World War (and 6 in the Second) inside St John's Church, Goose Green. I've been trying to find out who they were via the CWGC and 1901 Census. And once I find my way round the form, I'll send the details of the memorial to the Imperial War Museum.
