I can highly recommend half moon lane Montessori. Both my children attended until moving onto Dulwich village infants It is a wonderful place of learning, the staff cater for all the child's needs. Developing their early learning skills through play. They are ofsted outstanding. http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report/provider/CARE/EY251250

Where can I buy old photos of East Dulwich?
Elephant replied to Lita's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Francis Frith collection have a good selection http://www.francisfrith.com/east-dulwich Good luck -
Looking at the map above it seems that there are no masts within the Dulwich estate boundary? Dave R I suggest you lobby the Dulwich estate for a 25 meter mast and 6 large cabinets in a central village location? This would seem to be in a better location for all concerned? But perhaps this does not in the view of Dulwich estate supports the 'preservation of the character of the area - the appearance of individual properties is in harmony with that of neighbouring buildings, maintaining the integrity of streetscapes and there is an almost rural feel due to an abundance of trees and open spaces.'

It seems that people are forgetting that this is the only land available to build, irrespective of what federation was given the green light, the same issues of catchment would apply. There simply is not enough available land to build in east Dulwich. There does seem to be a black hole in South Camberwell?

Does anyone know if the speed cameras have been reconfigured for the 20 zone? Eg the one on forest hill rd. It is very confusing as there seems to be no official signs only the flag type southwark signes attached to lampposts and markings on the rd.

I was driving down village way towards half moon lane at 20 mph at the weekend, tailgated by an aggressive driver then over taken on the bend just befor the bridge. Really scary! Also noticed that the 20 mph limit on half moon lane is not being adhered to at all very dangerous especially for the lollipop lady in the morning and the public using the zebra crossing. This is a crazy situation not thought through at all, would love to see the qualitative data and research that led to this decision.

Dulwich Estate - fit to run conservation?
Elephant replied to DulvilleRes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have to agree with the comments that DulvilleRes makes. It seems that we must question who Dulwich Estate serves and who will be the financial beneficiaries of this development apart from SG Smith, Dulwich College, JAGS? Given the adverse publicity that is currently surrounding southwark council, lend lease the developers, and the redevelopment of the elephant and castle with far fewer affordable properties being built in that location than was proposed, I fear that the planning process may be a forgone conclusion? If I can support in any way happy to do so. http://www.theguardian.com/cities/2014/sep/17/truth-property-developers-builders-exploit-planning-cities http://www.theguardian.com/politics/davehillblog/2013/feb/13/elephant-and-castle-southwark-council-regeneration-rights-and-wrongs -
The southwark children's brass band were lovely, playing Christmas carols.

ANOTHER crash at the eastern end of Upland Road
Elephant replied to bheroniphr's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
At 10.20 pm today another accident has occurred on lordship lane at the junction of upland rd involving a bus and two cars. It is at the same place as a previous accident several months ago. Surely the council needs to take some action this time to implement traffic calming measures. Traffic is at at standstill. -
Accident on lordship lane 10.15 pm 16/09/12

As interesting as it is to discover the history of lordship lane. Maybe it might be worth starting a new thread entitled 'the history of lordship lane' I can recommend a great book from amazon entitled East Dulwich Remembered. http://www.amazon.co.uk/East-Dulwich-Remembered-John-Beasley/dp/1445601389 -
An accident has just happend between a unmarked police car and another car near friern rd. Traffic is being diverted down friern rd. This is the second accident within several months on Lordship Lane. The council needs to look at putting in place speed restrictions on lordship lane.

Lordship Lane closed both directions at Dulwich Library
Elephant replied to Katrusja's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was walking home this afternoon due to the buses terminating at goose green, passing the accident I was shocked and amazed at people standing looking at the accident and taking photos and videos on their phones. What has the world come to? I commented to a few people 'why are you taking photos' "why not" was there reply. I hope no one was hurt due to the accident.
