Utd have always had a tradition of a strong London following even during the bad times, remember the Cockney Reds of the 60's and 70's, as well as the more recent good times. You might be of an age when watching football on TV wasn't as common as it is now. It was an easy choice to support your local team. All my mates at school were either Utd or City fans. One of my teachers played local non-league football and had a trial at City. But it's a different world today. The game has gone global, children can watch games from all over the world, played by players from all over the world. Local heroes are now few and far between. I'm sure there are plenty of Arsenal fans outside of a North London postcode that follow Arsenal because of players like Henry. Do you not welcome them into the fold? Are they not welcome at the Emirates? How do you feel about the strong Irish following that Arsenal enjoy. Should they only be allowed to support Shamrock Rovers instead?..

What do you mean by London based?.. Atila Reincarnate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Trust me I can take it, ask others on this forum, > I just have a dislike of London based Man U fans > always have had, always will.

Calm down Atila, if you can't take it don't dish it out...peace Atila Reincarnate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Remember 2005 FA cup final. Good question Ratty. Absolutely, I never take anything for granted. It felt like winning it for the first time when we won the league a couple of years ago when it looked like Chelsea would be on another planet and dominate for decades. After winning the European Cup in '68 we were relegated in '74. So things can change quickly. Look at Leeds' situation now(stifles snigger). Some football clubs are a credit crunch pack of cards waiting to collapse, and I'm sure one day a biggish club will come a cropper... ratty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Question to people who support top 4 sides. Yea, and the team that is 15 points ahead of you, even your one-eyed leader has given up...'in Arsene we settle for 4th/5th place'... Atila, would that be because most of the people you know are London based L'arse supporters? I wouldn't expect anything else from someone who has been brought up on and corrupted by a London based media. Hang on a minute, let me hang my flat cap up, and let the whippet out for a run. Have you not heard of urban myths, if you know Mcr so well you'd realise that the majority (60:40) of football fans in the city are Utd fans, even a well known city fanzine editor acknowledged this. You really do need to learn to form your own opinions, you gooners are so gullible, you even think you've still got a great team...;-) As for 'real' derbies, the thing that makes Utd v 'pool, like Real v Barca, is that it is bigger than petulant local differences; the best derby for atmosphere, history, cultural differences etc has to be celtic v rangers...mental Atila Reincarnate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > red devil Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Don't worry Atila, just a release valve for all > > that built up tension before the Man U v 'pool > > game coming up, you wouldn't understand what > with > > L'Arse v Spuds not being a proper derby...;-) > > > > That's funny most of the people I know don't think > Man U has a real fan base as most of you live in > London and Surrey and have no real affiliation > with Manchester, not that that is important as Man > U aren't in Manchester anyway. I remember seeing one of those medical consumer programmes, bit like That's Life but only crappier because it was ITV, and they had a group of Utd supporters on it who had all complained of soreness in their hands/arms, sort of RSI before RSI was invented. Anyway, it only affected those fans, usually young kids too small to stand further back, who stood at the bottom of the Sretford End. It turned out they were continually getting pressed against the newly installed 'keep the hoolies of the pitch' railings, each time the crowd surged forward during an attack/goal. If that wasn't a pre-Hilsborough warning I don't know what was!.. It's always funny to see old footage of the Kop singing Beatles songs in the 60's, the crowd is swaying so much you feel sea sick!..

Always thought it was strange that before Old Trafford was redeveloped, the all-standing Stretford End had about 5 rows of bench seating at the back...

I saw a programme recently that featured the church in the corner of Everton's Goodison Park ground. Apparently it's the only stadium in the world that features a church in it's grounds. Got me wondering whether anybody knows of any other similar football ground quirks, past or present. Ratty, Fratton Park must mave some quirky goings-on, and I'm not talking about that bloke with the bloody bell! It's a shame to think that when Everton do finally move to their spanking brand new all-seater stadium, it will lack any character or sense of community this church provides...
