Hi All- Just wondering if anyone has had a home water purification system installed that they are happy with and would recommend? Been researching but would like to know feedback from someone who?s actually put one in. I?m not keen on the jug type filters, more keen on an under the counter reverse-osmosis type of system. Thanks!

THIS HAS BEEN FOUND- THANKS TO ANYONE FOR LOOKING! I have hardly used my scooter over winter but when I went to get it out the other day I could not find it. I think it may have been left in Peckham Rye Park or Lordship Lane. It looks a bit like this https://www.decathlon.co.uk/town-7-xl-adult-scooter-suspended-grey--id_8129076.html And also it has my phone number on the front Many Thanks

lobby to allow motorbikes in bus lane on Dog Kennel Hill
vandam replied to macutd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a cyclist and motorcyclist I have also experienced both sides of jostling for position. I must say I think most road users are fairly courteous and polite when observing others. I have shared many a bus lane and generally motorcyclists are road-aware. I would say that on a motorcycle I am naturally able to pull away slightly quicker up a hill like Dog Kennel Hill than a car so it would make sense for me to have use of the bus lane. On another note I've noticed how annoyingly a lot of cyclists are not making use of the cycle lane system at Elephant and Castle and this is causing problems. -
I guess there is a balance to be struck. For example, if we set the limit to 15mph then there would be even fewer accidents, and so on and so forth. But for me 30mph was about right in getting the balance right between flow of traffic and safety. In a 30mph limit zone you can still drive legally at 20mph should you choose to, despite others getting annoyed. Being told to drive at 20mph in the entire Borough feels a bit like we are being treated like school kids.

Anyone else finding it incredibly difficult to drive at 20 mph in the entire Borough of Southwark? Yes, I know it saves lives, but it just seems like you're crawling, especially if there is no other traffic around.

I have mailed parks@southwark but am still awaiting a reply. -vandam

Nigello- Fair enough point, however posting it on a public forum is also likely to geenerate more interest and hopefully more of a general clamour for something to be done. Thanks for your advice though.

Hello All, and especially Councillors. I was walking up Brockley Footpath (between Limesford Road and Linden Grove)with my elderly Mum and Dad recently and looking at the Cemetery wall. It is leaning at such an angle that it looks like an accident waiting to happen, maybe not next week but one day. I mean if someone is walking on the footpath when it collapses they will have no chance. So I am just wondering are there plans to straighten or re-structure the wall? Many Thanks, Vandam

St Norbert Road in Brockley is an absolute shocker- cracks and holes all over the place, if you ride it at night even with a decent light on you just have no chance of knowing what heavy bumps you might hit !! It is way overdue a bit of re-surfacing.

Fire (Stuart Road) (policy on open fires?)
vandam replied to vandam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hello Renata- "Fire: There is a fire burning on the premises, however it is a controlled wood fire in a metal container and in the middle of the site on cleared ground. " The fire has been on open ground, not in a metal container. It is usually left burning unattended overnight! "Was anything being done on the site prior to November 2012?" As I live very close by, I am fairly sure nothing was being done prior to November. I too am not opposed in princilple to the garages being developed, just wanting to see proper procedures being respected. Thanks, Vandam -
ED - Great! But for better value over the next 10 years... Nunhead.

Fire (Stuart Road) (policy on open fires?)
vandam replied to vandam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have been getting a bit despondent about this site. On two occasions I have got the Environmental Officers from the Council down to the site when the fire was burning. On the first accasion they agreed the fire was unacceptable and spoke to the very unco-operative labourer on site. He stopped that day but then carried on burning intermittently. The second time the Environmental Officers came down they said that even though there was a fire burning, it was not serious enough for them to ask him to stop?! That was frustrating. Then the demolition began and I called a Building Inspector from Planning to come down. He had a look at the site and said that I was to await any construction notices from the Developer. I was not even thinking about asbestos but now I am worried as it seems that some of these Developers basically do what they like and we all stand aside watching. Who do our lawyers speak to when we get asbestos poisoning? -
Fire (Stuart Road) (policy on open fires?)
vandam replied to vandam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
According to Southark Planning website the developers are Grimwood and Bowdery, based in Bromley(?) but they are impossible to get hold of in order to open up a channel of communication. They are ex-Directory. The demolition is now in progress. -

Thanks very much everyone who has responded- The Council Environment Officers came down yesterday and the fire was stopped so hopefully that is the problem sorted. Good to know about the green council policy leaflet too.
