Great @guzzler! Come back if you want any more route tips etc.
-
aha, that's interesting RendelHarris, has been a while since I've been through there so hadn't seen that. Wonder how well it's worked, if people pay attention etc.

You do indeed have to walk the foot tunnel at Greenwich (and carry your bike down the steps if the lift is out). Many seem to ignore that, which I find intensely annoying! The route that TFL's journey planner suggests for this is pretty much what I'd do, it's all on quite quiet streets apart from where you cross over New Cross Road (just get off and walk it over if it's hairy). I don't know a nice route the other site, but there may well be one. Going along the A1206 is ok until an ugly roundabout, though.

You could also join one of the Southwark Cyclists bike trains, where they guide groups along safe routes. I can't remember what days they do them but you could contact them via the website https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk.

Ta. Savoury crepes is at least a bit different for the area, I think, will give it a go. Kanella sounds great. Had a very tasty shake yesterday at the new cafe (I think it's called Homemade?) on Northcross Road. They have a lovely sounding juice menu and the cakes looked good so will be back in. Didn't look at the rest of the menu though, anyone tried it?

calling all cyclists using the Elephant and Castle
katanita replied to Sally Eva's topic in The Lounge
Are you including the new lights and layout at St George's Circus in this? There are several things that don't seem to work very well about these now. Most annoying is the fact that you can have a green light to head up to Waterloo Rd from London Rd, but can't get to it because for half the time it's green, the light about 30m in front of it is red. The phasing makes no sense. Also, when you are waiting in the cyclist box to go to Waterloo Road, the traffic lights are partially obscured by poles in front of them. It's not the end of the world but it does seem stupid. The actual road layout seems problematic to me, I'm not sure if it's narrower, or whether the lanes are still confusing or what, I can't quite put my finger on it. But it seems like they've designed it for cyclists using the new CS to Blackfriars but not really thought about anyone else. -
calling all cyclists using the Elephant and Castle
katanita replied to Sally Eva's topic in The Lounge
Hi Sally Eva, I haven't used the new lanes on the roundabout (as was) itself, I use the bypass over Newington Causeway. I have noticed that since the changes the route for cyclists to cross over the road is quite often blocked by traffic. This means I have to weave around cars etc, which is a bit unsafe as they clearly are unaware that cyclists might be trying to do so and are past the lights so could end up moving again when the lights change up ahead. I'm not sure if that's because the light phasing now causes cars to back up further along that road than before, but I wonder if it could be solved by a yellow box junction? -
ah Loz, I'm guessing you've not had the pleasure of taking an anxious cat to the vet for antibiotics every couple of weeks or so because they keep developing a stress related illness that has the unfortunate effect of being potentially life-threatening. It wears thin/costs serious ???. It's not like the diffuser is patchouli or ylang ylang, it's meant to be the same pheromones that cats use to mark their territory, the idea being that it convinces them that they are safe and on their own territory. I also use it to spray in the cat box before transporting them to the vet, and it does seem to have made a difference in both cases. Anyway, Boddle, could be worth a shot. Or maybe looking at any other potential stress factors you could reduce around her feeding. Good luck!
-
If there is a chance it's stress related/feeling insecure, you could try Feliway diffuser plug-ins. I think it helped my rescue cat settle in and stop having stress related UTIs.
-
Not sure I understand why it's strange or annoying. As someone with a rescue cat who had special dietary needs, I did have cause to wonder at one point if someone else might be feeding him which would explain why he was still getting sick. Some people might not realise that this could be an issue and I have certainly heard of people feeding strange cats that turn up at their door. So if my cat was continuing to get sick, I might well be driven to send a note round to nearby neighbours in case. Just ignore if it doesn't apply to you.

Saw one of the caged lorries full of xmas trees driving around this morning FWIW

Just had Steve and team in to refurbish my sash windows, and would agree with everything AnnieB says above. Very pleased with the work done and the difference it has made to draughts and the look of the windows. Dealing with Sundial was easy, good communications, turned up on time, made as little mess as they could, totally reliable. Recommended.

Amazing London tree map http://www.london.gov.uk/WHAT-WE-DO/environment/parks-green-spaces-and-biodiversity/trees-and-woodlands/london-tree-map Is it really right that East Dulwich has so many pear trees? I thought some of these were crabapples. Duh.

The previously mentioned "sausage roll and salads" stall on North Cross Road is Comfort and Joy (with the stripey green tarps) and their vegetarian scotch eggs are absolutely brilliant. I have tried many, and none have been better than theirs.

Just tried to drop a wash off at His Lordship Launderette to find them in the middle of shutting the business down :( which is a shame. Anyone got information on what's next for that place?
-
@cazzyr the lounging will merely be about location (it didn't take place in East Dulwich), rather than being a comment on the severity of what happened, I'm sure. The tagline for the lounge is misleading in that respect. That's worrying to hear about similar assaults, does it sound like the same person doing them?

Ugh, how extremely unpleasant. If it's at all reassuring I've cycled that way many hundreds of times at all times of the day and night over the last 7 years and never experienced any issues. So hopefully it was a one off and the little twit gets caught and severely told off.

I can see prices are a lot higher than usual due to the season. Still worth shopping around. But either way I would definitely state that cost clearly on the GoFundMe page as people will be inevitably be skeptical. Hi there, I hope your friend gets the fund she needs. You might want to clarify what the money is going towards, as a return flight to Budapest should be a lot less than ?700, so people might be confused by that.

The Google Translate app says the heading is Recording setting and the four options are: Image resolution Auto recording camera interval Timestamp Not sure how reliable that is. If you use google translate and download Chinese it will give you live translations off the screen. Good luck!

MMm, used to go to the Diwana's lunch buffet when I worked nearby. Very good. Hard to stay awake in the office afterwards. If you are that way the African Kitchen Gallery is excellent on Drummond street. That's very off topic now, I know, but I had a great lunch in there last week and it deserves more customers!

So torn, it sounds lovely, but I am so so put off by the apparent fake review above. Anyone from Spinach care to comment on that post?
