You can take them to Dixons group stores such as PC World and Currys, possibly other shops will take them too? https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/recycle-1042-theme.html. Don't think they will pick up but since they are closer in Peckham maybe that's useful?

Definitely interested. This is a pretty well established business model now here in London (Hetu, Bulk Market in Dalston, Naked Larder etc) and elsewhere in the world, and given increasing interest in reducing waste I think it is the right time. I'm really keen for a place like this locally. Whether or not it can be truly "zero" waste or not would be much less of a concern than making significant progress in that direction. Would also be good if it could sell sustainable versions of single use beauty and healthcare products such as cotton pads etc. Is this a serious speculation? ie, are you genuinely considering opening something?

Thanks Singalto, but what a pain. I've been hanging on to stuff for that truck, where am I meant to take small electricals etc now? All the way to the tip at Old Kent Road, I suppose, which is a huge hassle. I wonder if there is any way to get local bins back. ETA: apparently there may be a textile bin at Bel Air Park, according to Southwark's recycling locator https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/recycling-locator.
-
Ha, I did the same thing, spent ages looking for that non-existent textile bin. I could have sworn I messaged Southwark at the time to ask them about it/ask them to remove it if it doesn't exist, but haven't had a response. Anyway, there is one by the Plough, but there have been suggestions that the organisation running it (a charity) is a bit dubious. As far as I know, the only other local option now that all the other bins have been removed is to wait for the mobile recycling truck to turn up at Sainsburys, but I have no idea how to find out when that happens. Would love to know if anyone else has a clue!

Thank goodness I've never had to do Secret Santa with colleagues. This is amongst friends, so should hopefully avoid getting a load of plastic tat. For a tenner I've gotten her the enormous Almost Everything There is to Know (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Almost-Everything-There-Timothy-Hunkin/dp/0600570878) and a handy multitool, so if all you were getting were fortune telling fish (6 for ?1.65) HMB you were very short changed. This thread has also reminded me to buy a steamer, so thanks!

thanks for suggestions! I particularly liked the idea of a key ring penknife @rahrahrah, found a little keyring multitool that looks decent so will go for that.

Hello ED hive mind. I am Secret Santa to someone who would like "something useful", and I was trying to think of something really useful for about ?10 or under. So, I'm wondering, what's the most useful thing you own in that price range? Maybe something you are surprised to find yourself using every day, something unassuming, etc etc? Thanks in advance!

Southwark Spine - Last Chance to Comment

Thank you for the reminder! Just commented. -
@singalto I would ignore this, clearly has some odd bee in the bonnet about this case, despite responses above, and I doubt asking for further clarification will result in anything other than more insensitive posts.

Sigh, is this seriously a suggestion that SNARL might be fabricating these incidents? Would the police (who I have personally spoken to regarding this case) be devoting this level of resource to it if that were the case? Is this woman making it up? http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p057d3m6 If you mean regarding the description, it came from Surrey Police, as stated in this article http://metro.co.uk/2017/08/27/there-may-have-been-a-sighting-of-the-croydon-cat-killer-6882036/. So, in answer to your question, yes, many. Apologies I've misunderstood the implication of your post, but not sure why it was necessary. edhistory Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Has anyone yet identified a single report that can > not be traced back to SNARL as the sole source?

How about vegan cake? Struggling to find good vegan treats locally. Anyone seen any?

Definitely not one at Mind any more.

What's wrong with the one by the Plough? Is it really run by a cult??!

Great to see you on here and tackling feedback Greg. I have some from a visit today that hopefully you will find useful. Was very pleased to see the interior barely touched and looking smart. The skittles game was a nice touch outside. But, we were astonished at the prices. My friend and I ordered a pint of Peroni and a can of Cawston Press Rhubarb, and had to double take when it came to ?10.20. When we queried it we were told that the Peroni is ?5.60 and the soft drink ?4.60! The latter I can buy for well under a pound elsewhere. I understand you may not set drinks prices, but that is extortionate for a tin of soft drink, so perhaps could feed that back to the central offices. Won't be ordering that again, and I can't imagine many would order it more than once after realising. Plus it was not cold and wasn't offered a glass/ice. Would have asked but was so stunned by the price I was a bit distracted. Put me off staying for any food. Also it would be great if there were other alcohol free beer options than Becks Blue. Erdinger do a good one which is widely available and Nanny State is popular too. Thanks!

Any update on the Plough textile bank, is it still there? Been trying to find one all day!

Specsavers took mine a year or so ago.

They were doing pancakes before at Homemade Kitchen, they were good. Have they stopped doing those then?

New pop up shop on Bawdale Rd, just off Lordship Lane, called Tangerine Dream. You, ah, can't miss it. Selling homewares and jewellery (according to sign in window) but wasn't actually open when I went past earlier.

325 Underhill Road, which was the cafe on the parade, now repainted with a sign that says "Firefly". Anyone know what it's going to be?
-
They look great rendelharris, thank you. And they don't use excessive amounts of plastic packaging?
-
Any recommendations for good veg boxes/deliveries? Especially from local suppliers or for local pickup. Been using Abel and Cole for years, and they are very slick and easy to use, but the amount of plastic that is turning up in my box is starting to defeat the purpose (including Italian salad bags, hmm). Thanks in advance.

Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
katanita replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had a response to my email to the Royal Mail CEO, Moya Greene, below. It doesn't address concerns about the significantly increased distance to travel for ED residents (so I will reply to point that out, again), but does say that if they choose Peckham it will be upgraded to cope and that there will be no compulsory redundancies: Thank you for your patience while I investigated your complaint regarding the closure of East Dulwich Delivery Office. Royal Mail explores these relocation options to help us provide better facilities for our postmen and women as well as to meet the needs of our customers. The closure of the East Dulwich Delivery Office is still going through consultation with the trade union and all options are being considered. No final decision has been made and we remain committed to providing a first class service to our business and residential customers served by this Delivery Office. Should the move to Peckham be the option that we decide to go down, Peckham will be upgraded to deal with the increase in customers. We have a strong track record of managing change and we will work with our staff and our unions, to give them the opportunity to discuss the implications in detail. There would be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this relocation. If it proceeds, we would also reimburse our staff for any extra mileage incurred by changes to their place of work. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write to us. Kind Regards Nicola Nicola Barnham Royal Mail - Chairman and Chief Executive Office
