:( will definitely miss her and her funny little face.

Oh no :( that cat is such a sweetheart. Didn't know she was called Mackerel, but have often met her on Fellbrigg Road and she's so friendly, totally adorable.

I still have my BBC micro, though I don't remember Space Quest. It still worked last time I fired it up, but that was a long time ago. I wonder what I could usefully do with it?
-
Ahhh, I see. Thanks, that makes sense. I guess he was trying to say "so I *don't* come knocking on your door later" but it just came off really weirdly.

When I went to vote today there was a man with a libdem badge on who asked for my polling card number as I came through the door. I asked him why he wanted it and he mumbled something about wanting to come knock on my door later. I couldn't really work out what he was on about and didn't fancy handing over my details without a good reason so said no thank you and walked past to vote. Was that for an exit poll? Or something I completely missed the point on? Not sure what answer they expect if that's how they go about it though.

Best cycle route to the city?!
katanita replied to Debster1982's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Such a tragic waste. I know lots of people prefer to cycle through the roundabout because it's faster, but would really recommend adding a few minutes to a journey and using the bypass, marked on this map http://www.cyclestreets.net/journey/location/12986/. -
Best cycle route to the city?!

I don't blame you, I tried using the new maps interface to do the same thing and gave up, the interface is practically unusable. I tried on classic maps (which you can revert to from the main maps page, before you click to create a map, using the tiny little question mark on the bottom right) but it didn't seem to be able to share it without attaching my google profile. Well done for getting as far as you did! -
Best cycle route to the city?!

Ooh, thanks Fizzmoll, that's given me another variation to try. At Elephant and Castle are you not taking the Meadow Row/Rockingham street cycle bypass though? Can't tell what you're doing there. -
Best cycle route to the city?!
katanita replied to Debster1982's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I find google maps directions quite useful for cycling usually, but on this occasion they don't suggest the route that others have mentioned above, which is basically what I do as well, taking the E&C bypass and backstreets to avoid Walworth Road and the roundabout. I think that is the route that TFL suggest on their journey planner though. -
Great, many thanks C_C/PR!

Always assumed Jessops wouldn't have a clue, or do trade ins/exchanges etc. I'll take a look though, thanks.

No-one? Felt sure there would be some keen photographers here! Or is it that there just aren't any specialist camera shops left?
-
Can anyone recommend a photography shop either nearby or further afield that would know their stuff and be able to give me some advice and possibly repair my camera? I have a few issues: a Canon EOS that needs fixing as it has a slightly mysterious fault. I also want to look into trading it in for part exchange on a better model. Plus, I have an old Canon A1 with lots of lenses and accessories that I'm wondering what best to do with, sell it/exchange it, find an adapter for the lenses and use them with a digital camera, or what. It's a great camera, but I can't see myself shooting on film again. Any recommendations would be very welcome! Thanks in advance.

What about a National Trust working holiday? http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/working-holidays/ Haven't tried, but some look like they are in fantastic locations.

Giardia is nasty. Unlikely to pick it up here but apparently not impossible, I'd guess it wouldn't be the first thing a UK GP would think about. I was travelling once with a nurse who picked it up, it had some quite specific symptoms IIRC, with really sulpherous wind that bubbled unpleasantly around in the gut, almost like something was moving around in there. More on the NHS site here http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Giardiasis/Pages/Symptoms.aspx. The good news is that it's pretty treatable with metronidazole (just looked that up, not a doctor and couldn't remember what the drug was called) which should clear it up in a few days, unless you are unlucky enough to have the ongoing problems described by joom above.

Just popped into this and ended up staying and having a play for quite a while http://www.southlondongallery.org/page/arcade-peckham. It's fun, made with teenagers in conjunction with the South London Gallery, including two brothers who design video games and are 13 and 15 years old, which is pretty impressive. Bit of a pain to find though, is off Copeland Road in some industrial units at the back of the Bussey. Their map does have it in the right place but it looks like a road, but is just a route through the units. Open today til six and tomorrow 12-6.

Well, I'm sold on DS, but I still don't think it's going to work with this graphics card, unfortunately.

ADT - Cold Calling - Has anyone else had this?
katanita replied to Rednaic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Old thread, newer one is http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1232380,page=1. No idea if that email address is still valid, so might be worth checking. I've been in contact again since and I don't think it makes much different tbh, I'm pretty sure they couldn't care less what people think. Better to put efforts towards getting a designated no cold calling zone, perhaps? -
Isn't Dark Souls meant to be insanely difficult? I think it might also be too much for my graphics card, alas. But Dishonoured has gone on the wishlist. BTW just found this site for checking whether your graphics card can handle various games at different resolutions http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html, which is useful, but a heirarchy chart of graphics cards would be helpful, so I know where mine sits when the specs say, for example, GeForce 9800 GTX+ or ATI Radeon HD 4870+ as it does for Dark Souls on Steam, and mine is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M. Anyone know of anywhere you can find that info? Tried searching.

GTAV coming to PS4 and PC? http://www.ibtimes.com/grand-theft-auto-5-release-date-nearing-rockstar-expected-announce-pc-xbox-one-ps4-versions-e3 Just discovered PC gaming after getting a good laptop, catching up on all the stuff I've missed over the years: Portal, L4D2, even Half Life (at which I am appalling), plus a load of indie stuff like Gone Home, Limbo, Thomas Was Alone. And, er, Peggle. What else should I try?

Yep, Pokertime, at that very high end it sounds like a mac is best, but that doesn't seem like what they are after. I haven't tried doing much in after effects yet on this yet, maybe I'll have a go and put it through it's paces.

Just been looking into this before buying a new laptop. I used to use a Mac for work, which at the time was chosen because I needed to run Final Cut Studio and the options for video editing PC just weren't as good, or required extra hardware. Don't think this is the case at all now, you can get the same specs as a Mac in a PC machine half the price, and the Adobe software (e.g. Premiere) is as good if not better than Final Cut now anyway. So I got a well specced HP laptop, and it's been great, no problem with video editing or graphics work, or gaming. And that's just a laptop. That said, Windows 8, which it came with, is a bit of a mess. It seems to want you to use it in a sort of tablet mode, and comes with a few bits of nonsense software. Plus all the Windows 8 app versions of desktop software such as skype or dropbox are really terrible. But if you use it in desktop mode and get desktop versions of the software, you can largely ignore all of that and it works fine. No idea about Windows 7, may be better. In desktop mode, then, not sure I'd have much to choose between the Mac/Window's OSes. I didn't find the Mac one that intuitive to use, as some people claim, but it did seem pretty stable all round. I also used Windows vista for years, which everyone seems to enjoy hating on, but also found that very stable and easy to use. So unless you want to use a mac specific piece of software, I would go PC, especially if you want to use it for games at all. Really feel with Macs that you're paying double the price for the name. Oh, and maybe the retina screen, if you're into that, but from what I've heard it can have the effect of making stuff that isn't at the right resolution a bit rubbish?

I use just snipe https://www.justsnipe.com/ it's basic but it works. I leave it at 8 secs. Has worked pretty successfully so far but nothing you can do if someone has put in a higher bid all along of course.

Well, I was trying not to be too sceptical, was hoping they'd resurface the whole of Lyndhurst way and were just doing it in bits, but I wrote to the council and got the following response: "Thank you for your enquiry regarding Lyndhurst way carriageway resurfacing road works. However Lyndhurst way will be resurfaced in two sections namely: from its junction with Chadwick Road to Holy grove Road and Lyndhurst way junction with Lyndhurst Grove to Lyndhurst way junction with High shore Road." I've asked if there are any plans to resurface the whole thing. It's better than it was now, but still really bad at the top by the school.

Maybe they are just starting with half and then moving on? It would be wonderful if that road was finally sorted out. Who would be the councillor overseeing that area? Is it Renata Hamvas? I might ask.
