t=its the same as you describe alieh with the areas laid out etc, its a really good session and loved taking my little one there until she started nursery and they clashed. it starts at 10 but if its very busy they have to stop people coming in, think they are allowed 30. so id get there by 9.55am to get in. went a few times at 10.15 and it was already full. really worth giving it a try though, will be back once number 2 arrives.

Question about Grommets (Glue Ear)
ludoscotts replied to Kimmy1080's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hi they do come out on their own so dont worry, I had them as a child and had them put in both ears twice as they worked themselves out on their own and was nothing to do with ears getting wet, must was anal about keeping my ears dry so it was def not though that. think as you grow and your ear canals get bigger they come loose. cant give advice on wether to keep ears dry now as honestly cant remember when I started going swimming etc and advice may have changed since I grew up. -
Leaving my 11-week-old for the first time!
ludoscotts replied to radnrach's topic in The Family Room Discussion
totally understandable feelings but it will all be fine, really worth investing in some lillypads breast pads. They are stick on ones about ?15 from jo jos but you just wash them and put them back in the packet but they are leak proof. My first trip out was in the evening and even though I had pads in my bra leaked so much I had 2 wet patches and no-where to go and buy something else to wear(ended up borrowing a scalf to try and cover it up!) worth the investment to make sure you have a blush free evening. -
Can anyone recommend a good Santa's Grotto?
ludoscotts replied to Bobbaz's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I can highly rec a trip to hyde park winter wonderland. Starts today. Free to get in. Its like thorpe park meets a german christmas market. Its a lovely afternoon out. All of the rides are christmas themed, with stalls selling presents, mulled wine, and yummy things to eat. Free to go in and walk around and towards the back there is santaland. in santaland there is a little train going around and there is rides for little ones. then there is santa sitting waiting to see the children. Its free to see him and they get a small gift(chocolate santas) you are free to take pictures they take a group one of you with santa which you can buy if you want to but no pressure to buy it if you dont want to. We went on a week day and there was no que walked straight up to him. There are barriers set out though so I imagine it will get busy at a weekend. It was 2 tokens for the rides for the children and tokens were ?1 each last year. Not sure how much for the adult rides. There is also christmas tunes playing, a big wheel, a circus and an outdoor icerink. A perfect afternoon out to get you in the mood and makes the trip into town more worthwile as everyone has a lovely time. Our daughter was 2 last year when we took her and she loved it. Going back for her birthday next week. -

He charges ?20 for our house front and back upstaairs and downstairs and is usually there for 2 hours. He will do inside too if required and happy to just do front if thats all you want doing/going to be out etc. -
hi like growly bear said you know your son best and what would make him happiest but it might be worth putting his name down at the dulwich pre-school incase you dont get in to Goodrich and Heber if you do decide to send him to nursery. we had our daughters name down at dulwich village pre-school for around 6 months before she got offered a place. She started this sept and loves it. Up until now she hasnt had any child care from anyone except me and my husband and I was worried about how she would settle but she can get enough of it. We have to drag her away at the end of the sessions, you can go half or full days and from 3 yrs old they can stay for lunch if you want them to so it extends the session for you and them. There is a lovely garden for them to play in with pirate ship and veg plot etc. The atmosphere is lovely and my daughter rabbits away about what she has been doing etc(planting crocus's last week!) It really is worth checking out. Its opposite the riding school on the south circular in the old alleyan rugby club house. This means it looks out over fields and the children can go out and play on the terrace even if its raining so fresh air most days etc. I cant rate it high enough. good luck with whatever you decide.

Help: non-stop-crying snot-filled baby!
ludoscotts replied to Ko's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hi I second the head end of the cot up on books or towel rolled up under the mattress really helps having head raised and was just about to say about the olbas oil in bowl under cot, worked a treat for us. -
hi welcome to the area, you have moved into a little gem! Its a great place to live, very good links into town with the overground now its in forest hill and only 40 mins on the bus into covent garden etc. If you read the forum its been a bit worrying with crime being reported on here. My husband is convinced the area is getting worse because of reading post on here but I think its just because having the forum keeps everyone more informed. If we didnt have this forum you wouldnt know half of what goes on in the area so you would be ignorant to the crime so wouldnt worry as much. Having the forum really gives you a sense of community spirit. There is always lots going on from street parties to fairs, choirs, exercise classes etc. Loads to do and really does feel like a little village in a way. People really do help each other out here. I dont have a car so asked if anyone could collect something from Ikea for me and I had 2 offers-how lovely is that! you have also picked a great street!(totally biased of course as im Overhill too! could be neighbours!)

hi the mother shouldnt have wiped the child then dropped the tissue, that was out of order but it is difficult with a child. I dont understand why every parent dosent have a potette though(portable potty) you can buy them in jo jo's, boots even sainsburys. We have had one for our daughter and it has been a lifesaver. Someone mentioned that we never had them as kids and our parents managed but I remember going home with no underwear as I hadnt managed to hold it and having my dad hold me up over a gutter to do it. Having one of these potty's is so much better. it folds up really small and you inset liners(or pedal bin bags as im having to use at the min as I couldnt find any new bags last time I ran out)my daughter than pee's in the bag and you just tie it up like you would when putting a nappy in a nappy bag and dispose of it either in the nearest bin or pop under the buggy until you get home. No hassle and no upsetting anyone. Ive had a few odd looks when my daughter has used hers but we have never left litter or wee behind after us anywhere. the potties also fold out to become toilet seats so if you do manage to make it to a toilet you have a trainer seat with you too. My daughter has used hers on the bus when she was first potty training and I knew there was no way of getting off the bus and finding a toilet in time. Just sat the potty on the buggy and put her back on top dont think many people even noticed what was happening and Ive lost count of the times on a train we have used it when the toilet has been out of order. We have even used it for her to be car sick in to. A vital part of equipment for any parent.

hi food is good, my work friends paid for a voucher for a chef/restaurant meal. You picked what you wanted online and it was delivered to the door, bit like a take-out but restaurant standard, was lovely treat once we had got into a routine.

Silly question re: washing newborn clothing
ludoscotts replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think either way the baby will be fine. I washed all of the clothes that I had bought for my daughter before she was born in non-bio but didnt pre wash anything that she was given as a gift after she was born! in post baby brain frazzle it just didnt occur to me and actually still hadnt until I read this thread-oops! but she didnt get any rashes etc so guess either way would be fine. -
hi does anyone know are children allowed to use booster seats from 3/4(ive seen some from age 3 and some from age 4)in cars at any time or are they only allowed to use them from such an early age if there is not enough room in the car for a full size car seat? ive read a couple of different articles on it and ive read conflicting reports. We dont have a car but do have a seat for emergencies or rare trips in the care with friends. would be so much easier to just have to store a booster seat rather than a huge car seat for such a few occassions a year.

Hi this might be a totally stupid question but is it ok to reuse bottles for second child? After our daughter gad finished with bottles I packed everything up and put it all in the loft. I've just started sorting through everything for number 2 and looked at the bottles. I hadn't realised how scratched up and discoloured they had become with use( or maybe that's just since being in loft for 2 years!!!) do you think once sterilised a few times they will be ok to use or should I throw them out and buy more? Also the teats, will the rubber be ok or should I get new ones of these? Thanks for any advice

oh no bless you! If I were you id carry on, Its always hard with a change in routine but if its best for you then he will adapt it might just take a few days. Do you have a nap routine? my little one started creating a huge fuss when we tried to change her naps and was very unhappy and wouldnt settle. I used to just put her in her cot and she would lie down and nap but once I changed the timings she would scream and scream. I bought a set of books that I only kept for nap time and introduced a nap routine of change nappy, some juice or milk and 2 stories then put her in cot, that did the trick. Doing a routine seemed to relax her into knowing nap was coming and after a few days was brilliant at nap times again. good luck with the change in your routine.

Anyone using Yoomi or Tommee Tippee bottles?
ludoscotts replied to HollieES's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hi we used tt ones and they were fab. my daughter had hardly any wind and would take bottle and breast from 2 weeks without any problems. one of the other good things about tt is you can buy cartridges that you can fill with formular powder that fits inside the bottle meaning you dont have to carry a bottle and a separate tub with powder in making it much more space saving. -
Found: Cash hanging out of cashpoint
ludoscotts replied to Dano's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
hi some cash points do pull cards and cash back in-think it just depends on the machine, ive def had it happen to me and I cntacted the bank and they returned it to me after a couple of days once machines had been counted, records checked etc. However it was a cashpoint in a bank and not one outside a shop so maybe that is the difference. I think if you hand it in to police and its not claimed after so long it will be given back to you to keep or to donate whatever you decide to do with it, then it wouldnt be theft as it had been reported. maybe its worth taking to the station if you dont get any luck on here. -
dummies / pacifiers and how to avoid using them?
ludoscotts replied to benjaminty's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hi we were the same and totally agree with the other posters. We didnt want to use a dummy but when It got to the point where I was bleeding because my daughter was such a sucky baby we gave in and used one and have never looked back! by the time she was 3 months old we insisted she only had it for naps or bed and that worked fine. We have literally this last week taken it away from her. She will be 3 in nov and decided it was time to bite the bullet and get rid of it. From advice from others on the forum(thanks guys) we used the dummy fairy ruse. She put all of the dummies in a little bag and hung it up for the fairy, the next morning the fairy had left her a present.(a little fairy box from soup dragon) We were dreading it, and have thought of doing it many times since she turned 2 but its been fine. She woke a couple of times during the first couple of nights and only once asked for the dummy, she had some milk during the nights when she woke (prob helped comfort her) but a week on she isnt waking, she is back to her normal sleep routine, and isnt missing it at all. Im so glad we used one as 2 of my friends are now tearing their hair out trying to work out how to get their little ones the same age to stop sucking their thumb(which they do off and on all day and night!) We wont hesitate to use a dummy with the second one at least you can take it away when you are ready and regulate when they get to use it. One bit of advice id give is if you decide to use one and they are happy using it, when they get to the point where they can grab it and put it in themself start putting a spare one in the same place in the cot. I used to tie a muslin cloth (a bit like a pocket)into the corner of the cot and put a spare into that. Whenever my daughter would wake at night rather than just putting it back in her mouth id take her hand and show her where the spare was and let her put it in herself. After about a week she would do it herself. One thing friends who used dummies complained about was having to get up in the night to put the dummy back in but we were fine as we used this system from her being really small. good luck with whatever route you decide to go down -
hi if you go to the app store and put in top free apps we got the humpty dumpty one which my daughter loves and itsy bitsy spider, sponge bob square pants, and a chuggington (called roundhouse)one where you have to play the game to get a vid clip. there is a dora one where you can pick the colours and paint her. I think the only one we paid for was the shrek one(about 59p) and its the latest film in book form and you turn the pages as its narrated. also if you go to www.catchuptv.co.uk and sign up for free you can stream live tv. This has been a lifesaver for my daughter and me! its has every channel including cebeebies live as if you are watching tv so if they live milkshake on 5 they can watch that too(or when they fall asleeep you can watch tv!) its free and once you have logged in once its all sorted. You can bookmark it you your main menu page to make it easier to find quickly. Good luck with the train journey.

Irrational hatred of dirtgirlworld?
ludoscotts replied to Maki's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I cant stand it, the mouths are really disturbing. Its really sexual and not at all appropriate. I dont think my daughter would ever pick up on it but it def freaks me out when it comes on. -
hi heidi, I have been to the dulwich wood house and the food is lovely, my gripe with the place was the price. The food was good but it was around ?13 for a sunday lunch and it was lovely but no nicer than anywhere else where you can get a sunday lunch for around ?8/9. It is a lovely venue and setting(lovely big garden)and we sat in conservatory and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal there but just felt a little ripped off but would be wonderful for a special occassion.

hi civilservant so does "Note that Overground is NOT the same as the train network - it's 'the suburban network of rail services in London managed by TfL' according to the TfL website and mainly serves North London. " mean that it isnt free on overground? sorry been long day and very confused.
-
hi forest hill is now on overground tube so if you can join the network there maybe you can bypass having to use trains?
