  1. [***Facaetiousness Warning*** I'm just in a silly mood!] I know that youth gangs are not funny generally but I cannot stop laughing at the 'tags' - some of them are oddly sweet. I particularly like 'Brockley Man Dem' (all the 'Man Dems' really) Then there is the less than euphonious 'Haggerston and Fields Combined'. 'Winstanley Estate Man Dem' doesn't roll off the tongue either. These names should be snappy! What about the 'Lordship Lane Lost Souls'? Or the 'Lords of Dulwich Village'? The East Dulwich Manz? spymum (Blog: Posh Mum)
  2. F C Sopers in Nunhead is brilliant and they are really nice in there. I'm glad Moxons will be coming to ED, but I do hope them opening up isn't too much competition for Sopers (worried emoticon) spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  3. LOL!! Bob, you are naughty! spymum (http://poshmum.blogspot.com)
  4. Polly, that is sooo funny! And yeah, he's all right - good actor and all that. I must confess like his eyebrows! spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  5. Batdog, you are right - I am naive! It's a curse! And I would love to read your blog - particularly if it is racy - the life of a married mother of two tends to lack some of the glamour of a globetrotting, free wheeler like yourself! And Beth; I 100% agree with you about the academic pressure on tiny, primary school children. It is abhorrent (and inherently ridiculous) to test 3 year olds and place them (and their parents) in the position of success or failure. It is just plain wrong - even at 7 it is horrible, but what do you do if the nearest secondary schools are places like Crofton Park and Deptford Green. I read the Ofstead reports for those schools with horrified amazement. However, I would note that most of the Dulwich private schools are quite diverse both racially and economically; (certainly more diverse than Crofton Park and Deptford Green!) Let's face it; the London private schools lack the social cachet that certain parents are keen to buy; those types do not consider them to be public schools proper in any event - so I have been told to my face! You do find some of those sort in Dulwich (but not too many thankfully - try Wandsworth/Clapham!!). But the Dulwich primary schools are very 'hothousey' and this is a problem. spymum (Blog: Posh Mum
  6. Playground rumour has it that he decamped to a very, very expensive street in Herne Hill - lucky thing!! (Actually luck has nothing to do with it, and hard graft has everything to do with it. That's what my old ma would say, anyway.) spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  7. Crystal Palace, here I come! ;-) spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  8. Billy, you are a prat - if you have a valid point then make it without being crass.
  9. I just think he is so COOL! I once saw Terry Jones in Le Chardon a few years back and then I nearly ran over him by Cheners bookstore a few years ago. (Not my fault!! He was jaywalking!). I love the Pythons, and resolved that if he was ever at the end of my car bonnet again I'd flash him to get his attention (a la Denise Van Outen) but he decamped to North London! Someone must have warned him of my plan to get the 'girls' out! spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  10. Wasn't it all_star who had the lacklustre experience at the Bellenden/PEx? :) I love Peckham, smelly 'bush meat' purveyors, 'mars vegetables' dried fish and all. During the day there is absolutely nothing to be scared of (as in most of London - we are not in NYCity!). The diversity of the little pockets of London is what makes it wonderful - one of the best places to live in the world. (Granted, I do NOT hang around there at night - but then I am married with kids and have no life, so I don't hang around anywhere really!!) The houses are between Peckham and Camberwell are fabulous beyond belief - clever them for snapping up Georgians with 120' gardens and more power to their elbow for braving it out in the wild SE15 instead of comfy Dulwich! We'll all be grateful in the end when Peckham is totally chi-chi, expensive and more 'safe'! I've only been to the PE once - and I agree all_star, it was fairly dismal. But thanks for the heads up beth, I will definitely look for your friend Anna's cakes and shop. There is a really good clothes shop too. spymum (blog : Posh Mum)
  11. Either would be good! If we get a Carluccio's we'll know that ED has been thoroughly gentrified for sure! ;-) spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  12. Pizza Express really isn't that great (but - highchairs aside -they are child friendly, so we go there). And can the Bella Pasta offerings (next door) count as 'Italian food'? (shiver). A good honest Italian restaurant on LL with good honest grub would be beyond wonderful! (ducks, in case the anti-gentrifiers start throwing brickbats). Spymum (aka AC) (blog : Posh Mum)
  13. Indeed.........:-S
  14. Whatever you say!! ;-)
  15. And Dulwichmum; your support of beth's position on inclusive, non elitist education is at odds with your own choice. spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  16. LOL! Say what you really mean Goby....don't hold back, now! :-) You said ".. not just St. Dunstans either" - I'm not very clear - what did you mean, exactly? spymum (My blog: Posh Mum)
  17. Yikes!! No more tea tree/lavender for my boys! But this tip means I shall be increasing my own dosage to the max! After all, a girl needs all the help she can get! spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  18. Timothy Spall was famously in 'Auf Wiedersen Pet' as Barry. He is a really successful actor - he's brilliant! 'Wormtail' in Harry Potter, he was Mr Poe in 'Lemony Snicket', but my fave was a really dreadful movie called 'Gothic' with Julian Sands ('Dr Polidori') - so bad it's good! And Jo Brand is a real sweetie. See her in the Park and Sainsburys all the time - people are always bothering her and she has time for all of them. spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  19. Timothy Spall lives in Forest Hill, I am told. spymum (blog: Posh Mum)
  20. I prefer Runescape myself (yes, I know - deeply deeply sad! But so addictive!!) I simply daren't get hooked on another game like Warcraft! Get back to reality girl - you have a job, a house, kids and a husband! (PS:- Geeks Rule!!!) spymum (blog:
  21. Thanks for that Keef; 'Mona Lisa' is one of my all time favourites, and I shall watch it agaiin just for those snippets! A few years ago there were several film crews in Belair carpark, but I never had the courage to ask them what production they were on. Or to sneak onto the catering truck in an attempt to blag free food! i wonder what they were up to. spymum (my blog: Posh Mum)
  22. I love TKMaxx - I've banned myself from going there! And that does seem a tad harsh Danielle - opening up a cr**khouse would certainly ruin an area, but surely not opening up a womens boutique. And remember, Petals was just a junk storage space before, it's not like a well loved local butchers has closed down. Things move on and local flavour changes; I wish Walsh Glazing hadn't gone, and two mad old shops near the policestation on Lordship Lane are going/gone which makes me sad, but Petals probably doesn't deserve that swipe - good luck to them btw. spymum (my blog: Posh Mum)
  23. Not me! I've managed all these years without an ounce of smarts, and I'm a great success! Hmm...actually, wait a minute....I'm not! And thanks guys. My babe is quite lovely (beams with maternal pride).
  24. Yes, me! spymum (my blog: Posh Mum)
  25. Very fancy website - I could have ended up staring at those dots for hours! All it needed was a whale song soundtrack and a bit of Enya!! It doesn't seem as if it is going to be the 'regular' type of gym, does it? And in a way that is good 'cos it leaves me hope that Fusion will one day (we can but dream) be refurbed and made into a nicer space with a much nicer pool. And the Fusion gym is busy at non-peak times, (so it must be a nightmare at peak times, trying to get on the machines and having time limits on use, which is annoying). In the meanwhile it's off to Streatham I schlep. Or maybe I should just get used to running in the cold, cold rain! Certainly cheaper, and with my own soundtrack!
