  1. Have you come across the Children's Traffic Club? It's aimed at 3-4 year olds and still free to join I think. My son very much enjoyed receiving the workbooks and stickers through the post and it helped us in discussing the issues with him. Website is www.trafficclub.co.uk
  2. We have a son in Reception and feel very lucky he is at Bessemer. It's a lovely school, in a peaceful secluded spot with lots of space. As Ratty says, it has bulged this year. Am also going to be at the gardening session this afternoon and happy to answer any questions by PM.
  3. It wasn't on this morning. Playground opening next week i understand and perhaps water at the same time?
  4. I had Group B Strep detected in my urine at about 35 weeks (I'd complained about needing to go to the loo alot and so my midwife had sent it off for testing) with my first child and went on to have the antibiotics during labour. I then stayed in one extra night for the baby to be observed. In my second pregnancy (2010/2011), I was advised that Kings policy is not to assume that you have it still and not to give antiobiotics on the basis that you might have it. This seemed like a recent change of practice as my midwife called Kings to check the position. I decided to get the private test from the GBS website and my practice nurse did it and sent if off to the lab - all very straightforward except it was over Christmas/New Year and my waters broke before the results were ready. Following various discussions with the consultant and midwives, I went on to have the antibiotics again after being induced (my decision to be induced; the consultant would have allowed me to wait longer). The results came a couple of hours after the birth! They turned out to be negative, but again we stayed in one night for the baby to be observed. The GBS website is a very helpful resource. Also, to add and to echo what others have said, I was exremely happy with my care at Kings.
  5. I've just got the new timetable for Bessemer Grange children's centre and it has a dads group on Thursdays from 1pm to 2pm. I think it's for babies that are 18 months +. Tel no for more info: 0207 274 2520, option 3.
  6. We have a son in Reception at Bessemer and we are all very happy. The Early Years children are in a nice new building (opened Sept 2010) and we like the fact it's in a quiet area with plenty of space (big playgrounds and looking out on to the Jags playing fields at the back). Our son has enjoyed after school activities including multi sports, dance & movement and, this term, is doing singing club and games. He also attends the on site general after school provision a couple of days a week which has allowed him to get to know children from across the school. We have found the teaching, management and support staff enthusiastic and very approachable. I'm happy to respond to PMs if anyone has any specific queries. As Ruffler says, there is a tour tomorrow to find out more.
  7. Hi Wellington It's at the Children's Centre.
  8. Just to confirm a few things on the Easter fun day next week. It's free and is for children aged 0-8. You don't need to book; just turn up on the day (you'll be asked to register with the Children's Centre if you've not been before).
  9. Bessemer Grange Children's Centre is holding an Easter Fun Day on Wednesday 4 April from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Activities include: egg hunt, bouncy castle and arts & crafts. This will be a great opportunity to check out the Children's Centre and the Nursery/Reception building and playground. Dylways London SE5 8HP Tel: 020 7274 2618 (option 3 to contact the Children's Centre)
  10. Hi strawbs, sorry don't know about taxis. My recollection of metro is fair number of steps and narrow exit gates. Hopefully someone more experienced in travelling in Paris will post! L
  11. A fold up pushchair + ergo would prob be best solution - I forgot to say Paris metro not the easiest to negotiate with a pushchair.
  12. When we went, there were storage racks at the ends of the carriages so should be ok to store the bugaboo there, dismantled. We went with a baby jogger and there was plenty of room to store it folded. Have a good trip!
  13. Not where you've asked, but there are drop in football classes at jags sports club (In north Dulwich) on sat and sun mornings. It's on the playing field and is age 4-12, with the children split up into age groups. You don't have to be a member to go.
  14. Another vote for corams fields - and the brunswick centre for lunch options
  15. Baby booters football at jags? It's a drop in class at 11 I think (best to phone them to check).
  16. Hi Wellington - I don't know if this helps but our son is starting at bessemer in sept and we've bought traditional navy blue school trousers from m and s - in age 4 at least they have no zip but an adjustable waistband. For shoes, we've just bought a pair of black Clarks shoes with Velcro straps (from John Barnett).
  17. It's on Thursday mornings but hasn't been running during the school holidays so back on soon I guess. When it's on, they include the baby screening details in their 'what's on' section for Thursday. I think you can also register to get emails.
  18. Hi vik - the teacher told us navy for our son's trousers. Assume skirts would be same?
  19. We do a mix too with our 6 month baby of purees and finger foods (roasted veg etc). I read the Rapley books and was keen to try blw but my baby has also had slow weight gain. A book I like is river cottage baby and toddler cookbook. The author is a blw advocate (and explains all the theory) but also includes plenty of puree recipes and suggests how to adapt adult/toddler recipes for babies.
  20. DVI is bulging this year. You might know already but you might want to check whether this is for this year only or a permanent one because of likely impact on distance for non-church places in subsequent years.
  21. Jags has a parent and toddler trampoline session on a sat morning. You don't have to be a member and I think it's a drop in session (though you probably need to book during the week to be sure of a place). It says it's for 18 months to 4 years. I've not got round to taking my son to it as we go to their toddler football sessions instead which are also on a sat morning. When I was looking into gymnastic stuff, I saw that beckenham spa also has drop in toddler gym sessions.
  22. There's no lift at Bromley south but usually a fair number of people get off and could help up the stairs. If you're going to visit shops,HH to Wimbledon is entirely step free and I recently went to the new One Change Shopping development by St pauls - lift at city thameslink.
  23. My reluctant bottle feeder finally took a bottle at about 5 months after trying lots of different bottles and techniques. Maybe he was just ready for it but the bottles that worked for us were the Playtex Drop-ins. They are a bit of a faff with the separate liners though. We got ours online but I've seen them on sale in Fourway Pharmacy in Herne Hill.
