  1. Thanks for your reply Londonmix, we're hip to gable so 15 cubic metres are taken up with just sorting out the roof. Otherwise we'd be laughing as our outrigger is measuring 16 cubic metres. Anyone else had any experiences?
  2. Hi there, just to reassure you that my son at 2 had delayed speach and displayed similar behaviour to yours. I self-referred him, through a children's centre, to see the speech therapists. Now at two and a half, his language is great and he is a sociable happy little boy. However, I would definitely see another speech therapist, talk to your health visitor and request a referral for sunshine house (as suggested by another poster). Not that there might be anything, but just to reassure yourself and they will continue monitoring him if they think there is even slightly amiss. Your son is learning two languages and is now dealing with another younger brother, he's got a lot on his plate!
  3. We're getting a loft extension and are end of terrace, so are only allowed 40 cubic metres leaving us with a pretty small room up there. Has anyone gone through full planning with Southwark to get an outrigger built? I get the impression it could be difficult but live in hope. Anyone got any experiences (positive or negative)?
  4. I've been looking out for this group, so thanks Babsou. I'm also due in December and have a two and a half year old little boy. Also keen to meet more mums in the same boat, pregnancy this time round is definitely different!

Seriously, why bother posting on something that obviously has no interest for you but clearly bothers a lot of people?
  6. I'd definitely be there James.
  7. We're getting a new kitchen and we've looked at all the local suspects (Bells, Howdens, Ikea, London Kitchen Shop and Intoto in West Dulwich) and I'm now completely baffled. Has anyone had a particularly good experience and what kitchen make have you gone for? There's a great thread I've already found on here but it's more general kitchen advice, any specific makes/shops you could big up would be brilliant. I can't tell if it's worth the money to go for something a bit more high spec... they all look quite similar to me!
  8. Is the aircraft noise worse this year then last? I'm sure it was never this bad?? Or was I just happily deluded? They're flying so low I can see what kind of carrier it is and at peak times it's like a motorway up there.
  9. Bali!! Two months would make the painful journey worth while, rainy session but nice temperatures and really child friendly. Perfect!!
  10. Beas Babybop does a session at the Plough Pub, 10.30-11.30, and a few of the children's centres do a Dad's session on a Saturday morning. Or else Trio cafe, Peckenham Rye, your baby can people watch and you can have a civilised breakfast?!
  11. Just incase anyone is interested, Heathrow's on an easterly approach tomorrow morning which means no low flying flights at 4.45am, woohoo!
  12. Thanks Otta and Belle, music to my ears!
  13. We're going through the whole extend or move dilemma and Penge is looking like a real possibility. Does anyone have any insights into primary schools in Penge? Alexandra Infants/Juniors seems highly rated by Ofsted, but I'm more thinking of the new Harris academies, any first hand insights would be really appreciated.
  14. It was fully open on Tuesday, cash only though.
  15. That's brilliant news, does anyone know if the cafe bit is open yet?
  16. Does anyone know what's happened to the Dish and Spoon? We miss it!
  17. Any suggestions much appreciated. My partner's now working most of the Christmas / NY period and there's only so many times I can go to dulwich/peckham rye park. Read about the southbank on another thread, but anything more local would be great.
  18. My son loves sand and water ... but rubbish at long car journeys. It doesn't have to be the best beach ever, just relatively near, any suggestions much appreciated.
  19. Just came across this great blog with an amazing timetable of free things to do in London for kids, must have taken her hours... http://museummum.wordpress.com/2014/07/02/museum-mums-free-summer-holiday-museum-activity-calendar/
  20. Or try Clos Maggiore, brilliant food, lovely atmosphere, great service but unstuffy... voted most romantic restaurant in London so could be a real treat for you both (ask for a table in the conservatory). http://www.closmaggiore.com
  21. Try getting a second hand Bernina 1008, they're really hardy, built like a tank and really easy to use. You can get them on eBay but might then need a service (?60). Could still be over your budget but they are worth the investment and will last you forever.
  22. Was trying to find an email address of the DMC practice manager online and came across this article, it's a few years old but not much has changed.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2063458/Family-doctors-firm-raking-1-8m-YEAR--patients-say-surgery-appalling.html
  23. Ahhh the four month sleep regression! I remember it well (shudder), poor you, it's pretty grim. The 'No Cry' book actually made me actually feel worse because nothing suggested made any difference to our baby. The one book that gave some useful suggestions was Andrea Grace's 'Gentle Sleep Solutions' and we then did some soft approach sleep training at eight months which took about two weeks from waking up every 2 to 3 hours to sleeping through the night. It also improved his naps and our family's quality of life improved no end. Good luck and it will get better!
  24. My friend's currently adopting through Southwark, they are legally required to give you full approval (or not) within six months. She found them quite slow in arranging the first home visit and suspected they dragged their feet as they had a bit of a back-log and they were slow in answering calls etc. But they do have babies under a year, normally about four on their books at one time, obviously (and very sadly) they have a lot more children over the age of one, particularly sibling groups as they're harder to place. And good for you, you're doing something really brilliant for those children and society in general. Hats off to you. (Maybe reposting this in the family room would get more responses?)
  25. The space is up for rent though, 'price on application', but I've heard on the grapevine it's upwards of ?60,000 a year... who can actually afford that apart from chains?
