  1. I know it's August (summer holidays etc.) but is anything selling? Seems pretty dead out there...
  2. This morning was grim but this afternoon much better. Does the change in runways at 3pm make a difference?
  3. My other half has taken pity on me and given me 24 hours child free to do whatever I want... I'm now not sure what to do and don't want to send up missing the kids and getting all tearful. Any suggestions for something truly relaxing?
  4. Easterlies and 32 degrees.. Perfect garden weather!
  5. We had the same problem with our son and his bedroom. What helped with us is pretty elaborate and not for everyone as the room is permanently dark... We had some underfloor insulation left from a flooring project, silver one side, foam the other. Taped that to the window, shiny side out to reflect back the sun, then black gaffer taped black sugar paper to the window. The room was super dark and definitely cooler. Only for the desperate! (He now sleeps til 7 every day with just a normal black out blind... So it's not caused long term sleeping issues.)
  6. I'm also at a loss to why more people haven't replied... My kids are too young to go (plus we can't afford it!) but from what I know, it's a really caring, lovely environment with lots going on. They help girls who need it by stretching the more able and supporting anyone who's struggling (the SEN teacher there is fantastic). Less of a hot house then other equivalents so if that's your thing it's probably not the school for you.
  7. Not to be an eyesore for much longer... up for sale... http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-42253899.html
  8. Just walked past Sweaty Betty and the shop next to it has sign saying it's going to offer sewing classes and haberdashery. Could be just what you need very locally?
  9. We're missing Trio! Is there anywhere with a decent play area and good coffee anywhere near? (I'm prepared to drive for good cake and a train set!)
  10. I'm interested too... Our neighbours on both sides have teenage children who go to Charter, and hopefully Charter East Dulwich will help solve the secondary school issues tomskip referred to. They seem really happy but they have got 4 bedroom houses... And I agree, the population of Ed seems really transitory. And maybe because you can get a lot more for your money moving out a bit, you're tempted to move when the kids get bigger??
  11. We've got a North facing garden and you end up using it in a different way. We have lots of tropical plants that like the shade, decking next to the kitchen we can eat out on a nice day, a slide and sandpit. The back fence has a grape vine and we have a cherry tree in the darkest corner that seems to love it! But we don't have any grass as it just gets muddy. And you have to choose your plants carefully. You have to be more inventive in a North facing garden but it definitely doesn't stop us having fun in it. It would be nice to have a bit more sun but we go to parks all the time and we loved the house and location.
  12. All Saints just by Peckham Rye has two sessions on Wednesday. Both really popular so you have to queue outside for about 20 minutes before it starts (!) But very friendly with a sing song and Bible story at the end.
  13. First Steps on Upland Road. Small and very caring.
  14. We've got a north facing garden... East facing is the dream!
  15. A bit late but try All Saints Peckham, 10.30-12pm and 6-7 on Sundays. Lively and friendly with lots going on.
  16. We've lost our big black and white cat, Molly, on Rodwell Road on Monday 21st December. She's quite nervous and is probably hiding in a nook or crany somewhere. Is very affectionate when given the chance and we really miss her.
  17. Morning, I am by no means an expert but didn't want to read and run. My son also had speech and language issues but by almost three years old he is absolutely fine and now won't stop talking! Two years old is quite early to diagnose speech problems. He was also really into moving things with his wheel barrow, which sounds a bit like your son's liking for spinning things. This again, is really common (look up toddler schemas - all about learning through play) and can be a healthy way of working out how the world operates. Definitely go to any referrals as it's always best to make sure, but your son sounds like he might be a little shy around strangers and gets really into things. No bad thing! Can really empathise with you though, I was also worried at two years old but by almost three now, these worries were definitely unfounded.
  18. Any news on the latest inspection? Nothing on the Ofsted website...
  19. Can we please stick to the topic in question??? It's really depressing to see unhelpful comments on a thread looking for advice. Why do people even open up a thread if they know it's going to annoy them?? Please let's keep the Family Room civilised!!
  20. My son's had some pretty average haircuts from them in the past, but he does love the little airplanes and Peppa on the screens. The best recent haircut he's had was at Mems, opposite the little sainsburies on lordship lane, the man with the beard was great! It was ?12, so not cheap cheap, but a real quality cut.
  21. Hi Gemo, my son also has a thing for sausages and marmite which he would eat every night given half a chance. I've had some successes with: veggie sausages (he never realised the difference, hahaha) smoked mackeral baked beans on toast tuna pasta chicken wraps And he loves olives and gherkins. He'll also eat a lamb curry if we're all eating together. A lot of salt but at least there's some variety.
  22. Not quite East Dulwich but he could try this group on a Friday http://www.dadsandlittluns.co.uk/brockwell.php Or this Saturday group at the Ivydale centre in Nunhead https://www.facebook.com/ivydalechildrenscentredadsgroup
