  2. This ELC wooden dolls house comes complete with furniture and a family of six. Used, but in very good condition, apart from missing taps on the bath. Furniture room sets include bedroom, nursery, bathroom, living room and kitchen. The roof, two chimney’s, and internal stairs all come apart, making this a lovely play set for children to enjoy and spend hours organising and planning their rooms! You could even paint, wallpaper or add carpet to create your own individual look. PM me for more photos. Dimensions: H 70cm, W 60cm, D31cm Listed for £45 but open to offers.
  3. I love the idea that there was a Roman Fort on Dawson's Hill and that Boudicca attempted an attack which failed and resulted in her and her two daughters committing suicide on Peckham Rye. I believe this is a story that became folklore, passed down through the generations and that there may be an element of truth in this. I think it needs t be re-investigated!
  4. Hi there, I've recently been reading a book written by a local historian in 1841 (Douglas Allport) which dedicates a whole chapter into investigating whether there was a Roman Fort on Ladland's Hill (AKA Friern Hill or Primrose Hill and later Dawson's Hill – named after the brickworks in the late 19th century). Has anyone ever come across this before or have any information about this? I've seen the thread on the subject from 2010, but wondered if anyone had any other information? It's part of the project I'm working on called How does your garden grow? https://www.howdoesourgardengrow.com and I am organising a community event and exhibition connected to the area of the old Friern Manor Farm Estate on Sunday 14 July in the St Clement with St Peter church hall - FREE ADMISSION – programme details on the home page. If anyone has any historical information they would like to share, please contact me via PM or email [email protected] Many thanks Sharon Neish
  5. Wood Vale SE23 boundary oak trees I've just come back from a lovely walk with my neighbour who told me about the boundary oak trees on Wood Vale which he'd discovered during lockdown. We went on a mission to try to identify their age. We measured one outside Woodlands Court which we measured as 158 years old and another outside 83 Wood Vale as 173 years old, although it is likely that they are in fact much older than this. What we do know is that they are the survivors from the Friern Manor Farm Estate sell off. This information will soon be documented on the live digital archive site for the project https://www.howdoesourgardengrow.com/ If you live on the Southwark side of Wood Vale and have what you think is a boundary oak in your back garden – please do get in touch. I would love to measure its age and add to the archive. We believe that they are located in the gardens of residents on the road towards Lordship Lane and it would be wonderful to record them in this project. With best wishes Sharon Neish
  6. Hi all, I’m working on a project for my Fine Art MA which looks at whether the wild plants, flowers and weeds now growing in the streets and gardens of the old Friern Manor Farm Estate originated from when this area was a dairy farm in the mid-19th century - filled with meadows, pastures, fields and hedgerows. If you live, work or visit within the catchment area (see website link below for the area once occupied by the farm`), it would be amazing if you could take part in the 'citizen science' element of my project - which involves photographing and documenting the flora in this area. During this project, I’ve been discovering a lot of history of the area and I am developing a live digital archive to connect all this local information. If you have any local historical information that you think would be of interest, please message me. At a later stage in the project I would like to interview local residents so their stories can be preserved for future generations. I am also holding an exhibition on Sunday 14 July in the church hall of St Clement with St Peter in Friern Road (which is on the site of the old Friern Manor Farm) to document the results of the project and provide an insight into our local history. To find out more, please see my website (link below) or DM me. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Best wishes Sharon Neish https://www.howdoesourgardengrow.com/
  7. We don't use Deliveroo very often but we had a terrible experience last night with the wrong food being delivered and having to reorder and then waiting for an hour for the original order to arrive (COLD). I wouldn't normally post but I wondered if anyone else had had this problem. This is actually the third time something has gone wrong with an order (previously the wrong food arriveed - like last night, and another our delivery was sent to the wrong address - 2 hours to sort out by which time it was 11pm, and like I said we hardly ever use this service, so it appears to occur every time we use it. I am so over Deliveroo and Pizza Express - NEVER AGAIN!
  8. I witnessed a fight involving three people outside The Palmerston so I called the police, who arrived within 10 mins. It wasn't a stabbing. The victim was punched in the face a few times and went to hospital. Hope he's okay now.

Selfish beyond belief to pull over knowing > full well they're blocking the route for other > cars, plus it's a busy bus route. I drove my husband to hospital on Saturday - while he was having a heart attack - and we had to wait to pass by the queue of traffic. It was stressful but I didn't think people were selfish. You don't know the reasons why people need that petrol and I "selfishly" queued there on Tuesday morning so I had fuel in the car to bring my husband back home from hospital.
  10. Does anyone know of the nearest petrol station which has petrol - this morning? My tank is on empty and I've been out on Sunday and Monday looking for petrol, to no avail and can't risk driving around in the hope of finding some. My husband is in hospital and will be coming out at the end of the week and I want to bring him home in the car. Thanks

  12. I'm currently on hold to customer complaints at Royal Mail.
  13. We haven;'t had any mail for 10 days - still waiting for birthday cards which were posted early December. We're on Friern Rd and we had a parcel delivered. The postman said there was a huge backlog and post has been piling up. It's very frustrating - my son wanted Casual Christmas Postal work and would be down there like a shot, but no vacancies!!!!
  14. Does anyone know the name of the lovely man who runs this shop on Lordship Lane or has a contact mobile number for him? I always buy my fireworks from him every year and would like to buy some tomorrow? Thanks
  15. Will be booking a curry with you soon!
