  1. Despite yes: politeness is a preferred state within the community - many disabilities are hidden and perhaps there was additional issues going on. Dementia, Autism just to name two often mean supermarkets can be hella scary and just the need to get something to eat can be terrifying. I know it can be uncomfortable to witness, but all is often not what it seems, and in this light we all need as much compassion as we can muster on a day to day basis.
  2. Found on my street a bank card addressed to the name of Mrs Fernandez. If this is yours please private message me with your initials and what kind of card it is and i will let you know where i live to come pick it up! Jooles
  3. We?ve got very low water pressure too on Ashbourne Grove down by the co-op on Lordship.
  4. I recently had a parcel scanned at my door (i wasn't in) red card left, and not scanned back into Sylvester Road depot for another week. Was told that the person was a part-time person and so they didn't know where it was until she came back to work a week later! I couldn't believe it! When it finally turned up - it had dead leaf matter all over it - so i have no idea where it spent a week :(
  5. The benefit of buying off ebay is that you are actually guaranteed protection - and even more so if you pay through paypal! The seller doesn't even recieve your money immediately catching any "dodgy" sellers, furthermore, paypal protects your money and both companies work better for a buyer than a seller these days. You can raise a problem and immediately your money is secure, you can send the product back and are refunded if all procedures followed :) I hope that demistifies the old concerns about ebay and how risky it is.
  6. Hi Gebbjane. We went yesterday and they were still under repair...
  7. I wanted to write to just express how sorry I am that this happened today. We are absolutely mortified and concerned and dearly hope that your boy is ok. I'm sorry for the absolute shock it must have given you as well. Jooles
  8. If you are all in ownership of your properties, have a look at the joint tenancy agreement that would have been provided with the sale of your property and it will outline a set of "rules" as such that each tenant (mortgage or not) MUST adhere to. This includes some random stuff like "no shaking carpets outside", but also crucially includes a clause that talks about un-necessary damage caused and what needs to happen if that happens. Because it has happened on several occasions, the "tenant" upstairs is effectively in breach of this contract and therefore by law you can start proceedings on them for undue stress and cost of repairs. Perhaps however this might be best explained over a cup of tea of your grievances - if you (and they) could manage! Good luck!
  9. This is the best thread I've read in years...
  10. Hey mama79, Hope your doing ok this Mother's Day! I know it all feels terrifying right now - but try to hang in there! My son was diagnosed too when he was 2 and I've lived in East Dulwich for a long time so know a few contacts and bits of help that would be my pleasure to pass onto you. I've not had the means to pay for any private help for my boy - so everything has been through our amazing council. It can be done! If you'd like to meet for a coffee sometime - let me know. My boy is at school now, so I have time usually during the school day to meet :) Best, Jooles
  11. Need to put my oar in here too - fantastic tradesperson! He diagnosed the problem over the phone and went onto explain why it wouldn't be worth the cost for him to come out and then get the part installed for my VERY old washer dryer. It is rare to find such a genuine person willing to help his community in this instance without even charge! Have now got a brand new one on the way - but if i ever need any help with any appliance - The Spin Doctor will be the first person i call.
  12. Srisky - you've messaged me and I can't message back as its saying your mailbox is full. Please let me know when I can reply :)
  13. So pleased to see he has been found safe and well... Whew!
  14. Well I was talking to the health shop people earlier - and apparently there has been a campaign (through amazing james barber) for a while now about that junction, and apparently the road is too narrow for a crossing!
  15. It's the worst junction for crossing safely I've ever come across. My son and I avoid it at all costs
  16. There's been a horrendous accident on the corner of East dulwich grove and LL. Closed whole area off
  17. AJ3 - the point was that people DO sh*t on their own doorsteps. I made the comment because i would find it very difficult living on the ground floor of a communal block where one of my neighbours decided to allow their dog to defecate outside my open windows every single day and not clean up after themselves. I was merely highlighting some of the possible difficulties that come from living in a communal block. Perhaps if you removed the chip off your shoulder you would have seen that.
  18. Perhaps AJ3 - my comment certainly wasn't a slight on the "type" of people that live on the estate. It was merely an observation that i have noticed because it was something i would struggle with.
  19. Sorry Otta - but i disagree with your last statement. I can't count the amount of times i've been past viewing tenants taking their dogs for a toilet break in the grounds of the DKH estate and not cleaning up after them...
  20. Second for Crooked well. Excellent fayre - and wine too.
  21. Another great massive day trip is going on the boat all the way to Hampton Court and back. When your there - there is also lunch in the grounds and a look around all the armour etc if he's into that stuff. The boat trip is also around an hour each way - and there is lots to look at whilst sitting down (inside obvs for him). Good luck! I've had a boy who has had lots of hospital recovery - and it seems daunting right now - but seriously the time will fly... :)
  22. Yes - good point MissDumpling. I've just emailed the Finance Director (personal friend) to confirm so i can stop confusing you!! :)
  23. I highly doubt they will be serving allpress coffee when you can get a few doors down at toast!
  24. Re s.new - I had no idea about the meeting as i regularly attend DMC for my son and when i attended on Tuesday there was a notice on the noticeboard saying that the next particpation meeting was on the XX September 2013. No wonder you had limited attendance. If you actually advertised it other than on this forum (i.e. a wider reach) you may very well had more people. In regards to the 6pm time - I am a non-working single mother and even then i can't attend! It's when my son has his dinner and bed-time. Perhaps this is again another sign of how detached from the community DMC is!
