  3. The regular fortnightly traditional Irish music session will take place this Tuesday, 25th April at The Herne Tavern - corner of St Aidan's Road and Forest Hill Road. For those unfamiliar with Irish music sessions, they're informal and unrehearsed affairs. You'll hear jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, the occasional waltz and maybe a slow air. Perhaps a song or two. Musicians with a reasonable Irish music repertoire will be made very welcome. Come along and share a few tunes with us. The Herne is a very relaxed, friendly, welcoming pub with a huge beer garden and great acoustics. The new management have worked their backsides off to make it as attractive a pub as possible and - my humble opinion, for what it's worth - they've done an outstanding job.
  4. Hummingbird Hawkmoth in my garden in Dunstans Road this evening. Only the second time I’ve ever seen one (previous time was in Cornwall…). Beautiful and fascinating creature…
  5. Anyone having any problems in SE22 today? Glacial broadband speed at mine since early morning…
  6. Since no one has been in touch to claim I have now cut the card up...
  7. Belongs to a Miss S A**r***e If this is you, please get in touch and I will make arrangements for you to collect it from me.
  8. Another glowing recommendation for David (and Patrick). After last week?s heavy rain, I noticed a damp patch on the wall of our loft extension. I texted David on a Sunday to arrange for him to have a look-see to try to identify the cause of the problem. He happened to be in the area and so asked if it would be OK to pop across that morning. On a Sunday! That?s service. Having surveyed the roof and having taken lots of photos, he broke the bad news that the felting in our flat roof was beginning to show signs of deterioration and would need replacing. To cut a long story short, we agreed that my partner and I agreed that the work needed doing and so by Wednesday the scaffolding had arrived and Friday morning, 7:45am Patrick was up on the roof starting work. By around 3:00 on the Friday the job was completed to an exceptionally high standard. Thanks again David and Patrick. Excellent work yet again and so easy to see why you get the great reviews! Very best...
  9. David and Patrick have just completed a repair to our roof where we had a slight leak. Arrived bang on time, quickly diagnosed the issue and sorted it out straightaway. Minimum of fuss and a good job as ever. Many thanks.
  10. Modern slavery. If you?re asking people to do a job, pay them. Don?t exploit them. I think HMRC and local trade union branches alike might take a dim view of your call for ?volunteers? to offer their services for free to what is clearly a commercial business.
  11. Another recommendation for David. He came to inspect our guttering which had struggled to cope with a sudden torrential downpour. Despite the fact that it was raining at the time and he was clearly much in demand for quotes as his phone was constantly ringing, David decided to clear out the guttering then and there and while he was at it to check out the roof for any further work that might be needed. He did spot an issue which he suggested we might like to consider paying some attention to. (Diverting a downpipe?s outfall away from a valley - which needs clearing out and pointing - and towards the main body of the roof itself which should help contain any overflows from torrential cloudbursts.). But this was done purely on a suggestion basis rather than putting the frighteners on. And he was happy to take some time talking through the pros and cons. The upshot was that we asked him to come back next week to do this extra bit of work! Good stuff David. Many thanks for all your work to date.
  12. Re goldfinches. We're at the Dawsons Heights end of Dunstans Road. There are numerous small flocks in the area. Once you recognise the sound they make, you'll hear them constantly flying around. I spotted a peregrine falcon overhead a few days ago - on a west-to-east glide/shallow stoop . Put a few pigeons into a state of panic...
  13. Here now. Great beers. Maybe 25-30 punters. Varied soundtrack. Loud enough to be heard over the chatter but not loud enough to make chatter difficult. Give it a go. If, like me, you?re local enough for this to be your local, you might be pleasantly surprised.
  14. I?ve had several serious conditions in recent years which doctors (and the practice nurse) at this practice have pulled out all the stops to see me through. I?ve had fantastic experiences there, about which I?ve taken the time to compliment them direct.
