I'm desperately trying to avoid my yr 7/11yr old son spending all of half term plugged into his PS4 but all the half term clubs are geared towards primary school kids. Even if just an hour or 2 per day would be good. Anyone have any suggestions? (non-football or crafts related ideally)

Looking for holiday villas for a large group
Bobbaz replied to lenster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you could consider a different location my family and I recently visited France, we stayed in a gitte - farmhouse and converted outbuildings. There's 3 in total but a couple are quite large and would accommodate 2 families sharing to fit your numbers. Here's the link if you fancy it www.frenchfarmhouseholiday.co.uk. Great for kids, swimming pool, pool table, zip wire in the woods, bikes, forest walks etc. -
Anyone know where I can buy dried barberries?

Perfect - thanks! -
My little one goes to the group lessons on a Saturday morning at Dulwich Leisure Centre / Fusion. They were very patient when my Son initially refused to even get into the pool and is now pretty competent and totally fearless. It's a bit busy and rather warm for parents but does the job.

Not sure this is entirely the right place to post this question but if anyone can suggest somewhere ideally in ED or Peckham that would be great. I have a recipe I fancy cooking from a Persian cookbook and I don't think Sainsbury's will come up trumps.

I've recently bought a new laptop and now can't see anything when I open the site other than 'forum sponsors' the entire page is blank. I have the same issue logging in from my work PC but always assumed this was due to their internal restrictions but it would appear not. I have tried adding the site to compatibility view sites but this still makes no difference, do you have any suggestions?

I'm so gutted that Gumboots have stopped running their holiday club (with the exception of the few weeks they do over the summer hols) as literally every single other option still doesn't cater for those parents that work full time, even the early/late starts are 8.30-5.30pm and I really do need that extra 30 mins either end of the day to travel into the city. Does anyone have any other suggestions at all? Failing that does anyone know of a childminder that could do 1 hour of childcare each morning in order to get my 7yo to one of the above options?

I currently let a 1 bedroom flat and my tenant has asked me to switch her over to a water meter as it will save her money in the long run. Does anyone have any feedback on these? is it easy to switch? do these meters take up much space/involve work to be fitted and are they actually worth it?

I've managed to destroy yet another brand new Samsung Galaxy S3 by dropping it in water. I've tried sticking it in rice etc and the Smart functions (apps/email) still work but I have no mobile phone reception so can't use it as an actual phone. I can see from web research that you can open it up and clean it with alcohol, could one of the phone shops help with this? Not something I fancy attempting myself.

I am trying to order a new washing machine for my tenant but apparently you can't get them to disconnect the old appliance. My plumber can't lift/remove the old one, just install the new one so I am going to have to get it disconnected before he can come again to re-connect. Just wondering if this is something that you could easily do yourself?

Dissertation help! Mothers returning back to work
Bobbaz replied to nabz's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Have just emailed you anyway but surveymonkey will no doubt give you more results. Good luck! -
I live really close to the school (about 3 houses away) but I can definitely say that it's still worth applying from estimating where my Son's friends live. You have to try these things anyway! But I've always been really happy with the school, the Teachers I've come across have always been great and supportive and the atmosphere within the classes has also always been really nice with the children playing nicely together.

Research into maternity/children wear
Bobbaz replied to loverabbit's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There's already lots for maternity/baby wear but definitely short on older children's clothing shops. Personally I'd say some of those that fail were way too expensive for kids clothing. Should be fun, decent quality and good value. As a Mum of 2 boys I also find most shops offer the same standard fair in brown, blue or khaki so stuff that's a bit different/funky is always good and there's not many places offering it.
