  1. I can find no evidence of anyone having slated your business on this thread. For every one poster, there are hundreds more who read the posts, so if you want to chase business away you are going the right way about it.
  2. Lawrie Park Road in Upper Sydenham is a very nice road, and is also close to everything. Is also on several bus routes.
  3. My next door neighbour's maisonette was burgled in the early hours of last Saturday morning. The thief took her handbag and laptop from a table downstairs while she was asleep upstairs. The burglary may have been facilitated by the fact that the exterior light was not working, despite several requests to Southwark Council to get this repaired, so it would not have been difficult for the thief to gain entry (through the front door) unseen. I contacted Renata Hamvas over the weekend; she responded very promptly and on Wednesday the light was working again. Apparently the Council were awaiting a new fitting, for which they had placed an order. However, the Council discovered on Wednesday that it had, in fact, received the new fitting. Had Renata not intervened, we would still no doubt be without light and inviting further burglaries. So,a big thank you to Renata, who achieved a result for us within one working day. On a positive note regarding the burglary, the police had apprehended the thief, who had committed three or four other burglaries during the course of the night/early morning in question, and recovered the laptop and items stolen from the handbag (the thief had disposed of the handbag itself close by - it was found by a neighbour) even before my next door neighbour reported the theft at about 9 am, although this was either not known or not disclosed at the time. My next door neighbour has had her laptop, her handbag and the items taken from her handbag returned to her and the last I heard was that the thief was in custody. So all credit to the police, who also came to my door, and, I think probably to others, to check on our safety, warn about locking doors and windows etc and of course to ask if anyone had heard or seen anything. After all the criticism the police come in for, it is good to be able to post something positive.
  4. Complete Weed Control (London South East), Jonathan Bristowe, 020 8150 6366 or (m) 07967 637 436. They do work for various Lewisham housing associations and have eradicated the Giant Hogweed growing round our property. They also tackle Japanese Knotweed. Their price was extremely reasonable for the Giant Hogweed, but no idea what their charges would be for the Japanese Knotweed. We found them to be very pleasant and very reliable.
  5. Si Mangia does not allow smoking in their restaurant at all, whether outside or inside. Smoking in the outside area used to be allowed, but was subsequently banned, partly at least, I assume, because diners had to go through the outside area to get to the inside area. I have sympathy with smokers having to go outside in freezing weather, but do wonder if the attitude of those with similar opinions to Jah Lush would change were the health of their own children, grandchildren or others close to them to suffer?
  6. As some-one who has never smoked, but whose lung linings became damaged through passive smoking, I agree with Uncleglen and Sue.
  7. Complete Weed Control does this work. They do a lot of work for Lewisham housing associations. We used them last year for the spraying of giant hogweed and found them reliable, professional and very reasonably priced. It is a franchise - check their website for information on knotweed. 8. Yes. I will PM you later when I return home
  9. Phoned Vodafone this afternoon to enquire as to when the promised free sure signal box would be arriving. Was told again none in stock - I would have to either go into a shop ( although reasons having been given and noted several times why I cannot) or go on line, order and pay ?100 (price gone up from ?50) up front, and they would then refund me the ?100. When I said not a chance, the call centre operative said I must realise that Vodafone is a business! She also disputed quality of signal (open signal app shows 37% average all time), saying she could hear me perfectly well. Email now sent to CEO.
  10. Two or three years ago I suffered two unpleasant food experiences at one of the places given one of the lowest scores. One of these involved an extremely serious case of food poisoning. Liability for poor hygiene was admitted. I received an apology and an offer of free meals. The fact that two or three years on the place in question has been awarded a low score sends out a message. From this perspective, I think the scores are useful.
  11. Vodafone offered me a free sure signal box which they said, by text message, I could collect from one of their nearby stores. When I told them there are no Vodafone stores nearby, they said they had none in stock at present!
  12. A similar thing happened to me some years ago. Several Eastern European women got on a bus which I was on and which was going to Woolwich. They annoyed me constantly by jostling me. After about 10 minutes they pointed to a ?1 coin which they said I had dropped on the floor, which I picked up, having thanked them politely. Good manners are not always appropriate (see manners thread!) They got off the bus. When checking my bag several minutes later, I saw all the cash which had been in my bag had disappeared. The bus driver dropped me at the depot in Woolwich and gave me a number to phone to report the incident, which I duly did. The person to whom I reported the incident subsequently telephoned me and said that the whole episode had been caught on CCTV. Apparently these women had made no fewer than four or five unsuccessful attempts to steal the cash from my bag before they eventually found success with the ?1 coin ploy. He said their identities were known to the authorities - the men did the drugs and gunrunning, the women and children the pickpocketing. Some time later I saw in the press a gang had been rounded up, prosecuted and jailed. Their photographs looked similar to the faces of the people who had robbed me, but I couldn't be sure. I had been told there was no need for me to go to Court give evidence as the incident had been caught on CCTV and if I were called to Court the likelihood was that I would have a brick thrown through my window or worse. I am always very watchful, cautious and careful, and was somewhat younger then, so it is not only the elderly these people target. No-one can ever be too careful.
  13. A report published by Southwark Council on its website and dated 30 January 2012 states: "The Council also has an 80 strong fleet of hand gritting machines to ensure footpaths and pavements are kept as clear as possible. In addition, there are almost 200 grit bins across Southwark to enable residents to clear their own pathways and pavements. Bags of grit have also been distributed across local estates to grit exposed stairways, slopes, ramps and outside sheltered housing. Almost 100 staff including lorry drivers, foremen and sweepers, will be involved in keeping the streets and roads clear if snowfall is heavy".
  14. Thank you Renata.
  15. Renata Thank you for your update of 18 January. I live in One Tree Close, off Honor Oak Rise. Because this is a private estate we arranged yesterday for the grounds to be gritted at our own expense. However, the Council's gritters appear to have gritted only the lower half of Honor Oak Rise, which means that minicabs cannot gain access to One Tree Close as they cannot drive up the upper half of Honor Oak Rise. Although younger people can probably walk this distance without much difficulty, those who are elderly or infirm but still have to work cannot do so. Small vans - though not minicabs- are managing to drive up through the snow, so there does not appear to be any reason for the Council's gritting lorries not to do so. Would it be possible, please, for the whole of Honor Oak Rise to be gritted urgently?
  16. Google Vodafone CEO. You will find a message from the UK CEO, stating his name, together with a form to fill out re any issues.
  17. There is no coverage from about half way down Forest Hill Road and intermittent coverage further up Forest Hill Road. Wonder how long Vodafone intend "working on it"?
  18. I would be very interested aslong as its on street level or up a few easy stairs.
  19. Wouldn't work. Samsung is twice its size!
  20. Just taken delivery of above. Green line right down all screens. Whatever happened to quality control? Now have to spend yet another day in waiting for exchange phone. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Vodafone say they will contact Samsung to enquire why they are sending out defective phones and have credited me with 14 days line rental.
  21. Otta Don't know when you were last there but they have improved the decor enormously over the last year.
  22. It would be interesting to gett an overview of how the various establishments treat complaints. We had a dire experience at the Great Exhibition two or three weeks ago. As I feel it is only fair to take the matter up with the establishment itself rather than just go straight to the forum. I therefore emailed the manager - 2 weeks later still no response.
  23. They have spammed me - computers - user name dstr8
