State vs independent - mental health
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Jules-and-boo, really good point about bullying. This is a concern for me too especially with social media bringing bullying into the home environment Thanks also motorbird & pugwash. Good advice about the fit. -
State vs independent - mental health
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Pugwash, thank you so much for your message. I totally agree about a whole person approach to education. I really just want my son to do what he can without unnecessary pressure and find his areas of interest! I?m sorry to hear about your husband?s ongoing mental health. I do hope that things improve. It must have been so tough for him and you too. It is wonderful to hear about your daughter?s success. How fantastic to look back on your choice and see the end result -
I was wondering whether people had views on whether sending your children to independent schools can be bad for their mental health? By way of background I have a very young little boy and am really torn. Aside from the fact he may not get in anyway / we may not be able to afford, I love the rounded education that independent schools offer, the facilities they have & class sizes. However I?m concerned about the pressure placed on children and its potential impact on mental health. Am I overthinking this? Is there pressure everywhere or is it worse at independent schools? I would love to hear people?s views on this.

Mother and Toddler Groups
EastdulwichNewbie replied to Chloecollis's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi there, There is also one at Dulwich Library run by mums and volunteers from Grace Church Dulwich. Time for play, a hot drink, bible story and songs. It?s called Scallywags and meets at 10am on Mondays upstairs at Dulwich library. We would love to see you there! -
We paid ?120/130 I think (it?s worth checking as there is an upper limit). I know some people pay a lot less though.

I think it depends on experience rather than number of children (unless it?s a nanny share which is more) but ?12 ph net is probably average for one family. You have to tax pension costs into account also though. I think there are calculators online to help you work out the likely all-in cost. I hope that helps!

This morning I have woken up to a car parking across the drive meaning I can?t get out. I need to drop the children at school and run some errands but I can?t get out. It keeps happening and I am due to give birth any day now and am worried about being able to get to hospital. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening? It?s really frustrating! Thank you.

Agree with TheCat about jumping in the back first or ordering on an app. I?ve had cabbies refuse me when I was heavily pregnant! If any refuse now I take a photo and report them.

Asthma clinic for child
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks. We are out of the country but managed to find a great doctor here and have found a specialist in London to have a good chat with. Thankfully the wheezing has subsided. We will definitely follow up with our GP too to advise them on the course of action we?ll be following. -
Hi, We would like to take our son to an asthma clinic to speak to a sprecialist doctor. We were told by the GP to reduce the preventer inhaler and now we?re away on holiday and our son has had something close to an attack. He is 3 so not diagnosed officially (viral induced wheeze at this age). Anyway... we have been to the one at Kings but would like to see someone right away. Is there a private clinic anyone can recommend? Thank you!

Barry Road -- healthy streets consultation
EastdulwichNewbie replied to Sally Eva's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As a resident on Barry Road I am very concerned about the proposals. I agree that a speed camera seems like the most simple solution. Parking is already very tight which makes it difficult with children and shopping! It feels like there is a push for controlled parking and by putting more pressure on this would be more likely to happen. I personally don?t want to have to pay to park near my house. -
Nanny leaving - advice for transition
EastdulwichNewbie replied to EastdulwichNewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you so much for your post. Really helpful advice. And thanks for the reassurance too - there have been lots of tears (from me) about this as it feels like we?re losing a family member! I do hope you?re right about the next one that comes along. -
Nanny leaving - advice for transition
EastdulwichNewbie posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our amazing nanny is leaving. She looked after my son for three days a week and helped with my baby daughter too. My son really cares for her and her leaving will be confusing for him I?m sure. He is almost three. Our nanny leaves in 5 weeks and we will try to find a replacement. Does anyone have any advice about when to explain this - do we start now or closer to the time? Any tips for this conversation or the transition to finding new childcare would be appreciated. We?re all really sad to see her go. Thanks! -
